ALBANY - Rep. Maurice Hinchey's wife was charged with driving while intoxicated Wednesday, just hours after her husband said he wouldn't run for re-election to his congressional seat.
Police were called after Allison Lee-Hinchey, 49, rear-ended another vehicle on Lark Street in Albany around 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, said city police spokesman Det. James Miller.
Miller said Lee-Hinchey appeared unsteady, smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests. She was then brought to central booking, where Miller said a Breathalyzer test showed her to have a 0.14 percent blood-alcohol content, well above the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
Lee-Hinchey was ticketed for driving while intoxicated, felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and two traffic violations. She appeared in city court Thursday morning and was released on her own recognizance to reappear Jan. 25.
In a statement released Thursday, Lee-Hinchey said, “I am committed to addressing this both legally and personally. I am deeply sorry and apologize to my colleagues and friends.”
Miller said nobody was injured in the accident. Hinchey was at his home in Hurley Wednesday afternoon.
Lee-Hinchey was charged with DWI in Hurley in May 2011. She pleaded guilty to driving while ability impaired last month.
Hinchey, a Democrat who represents parts of the Hudson Valley and Southern Tier, said Wednesday that he won't be running for re-election after 20 years in Congress.

Everyone knows the MSM provides cover to dems and sticks it to any conservative.
That said, alcoholism is a terrible disease. In my family we have had to deal with this. It is unbelievably painful to see a loved one lose all sense of responsibility under the influence of drink. I thank God that alcohol does not affect me in this way. My prayers go out to everyone who is suffering from this affliction.
I sincerely hope that this poor woman can overcome this demon and live a sane and happy life.
She was drunk on her last trip the the hairdresser, and ended up getting it chewed up in a goat pen by mistake.
Or, maybe she mistook the eggbeater for her curling iron that morning.
Getting smashed and being an alcoholic are totally different. Lighten up and let us dump on the lefty broad whether she’s an alchy or just a party animal.

No proof she’s an alcoholic. She just likes a few pops before she drives...... to steady her nerves I’m sure.
In her defense, if I was married to Maurice, I’d probably be polluted 24/7
