Romney camp marks anniversary of Gingrich House reprimand

Is the date Jan. 21 about to be a lot brighter for Newt Gingrich?

As South Carolina votes Saturday, Mitt Romney’s campaign sent a press release wishing Gingrich a “happy anniversary” for the House decision to reprimand him, which happened on Jan. 21, 1997.

Headlined “Happy 15th Anniversary, Mr. Speaker,” the release said, “Fifteen years ago today, Newt Gingrich became the first House speaker in American history to be reprimanded by his colleagues.”

Gingrich was investigated for tax irregularities and for campaign finance disclosure violations in the late 1990s. The matter, conducted when Republicans controlled the House, was settled when Gingrich paid a $300,000 fine and was reprimanded for violating House rules.

Romney's campaign has worked to deflect controversy over the release of his tax returns by focusing attention on Gingrich's ethics probe.

Just shows what slime we are walking around

I presume you meant "slime we have are walking..."; just pointing out to any and all readers who may happen to read that literally!

The American people will not stand for these negative attacks coming out of the Romney camp.

Pathetic, adolescent, and petty.

They think we’re going to “come around” to a guy like this if they succeed in absolutely CRAMMING him down our throats?

Obama/Romney 2012!

Yep, reminds me of the time that Bruce King (Governor of NM) replaced Mud Reynolds (D) on the ballot with his nephew. Mud Reynolds died between the Primary & General election. Mud Reynolds had no Republican opposing candidate, he voted with the GOP and had strong following.

The write-in candidate Joe Skeen beat the Governors nephew. On a U.S. House of Representative election. Whhooo Hooo

He’s a dirty bustud.

He plays Chicago style politics and stands up at the podium and smiles at you while he does it.

I have disdain for that man that is barely harnessed.

Newt, please take the high road. Don’t let this low life and his minions including Ann Coulter to get to you.

Absolutely. There is a cake in Mitt Romney’s future, scheduled delivery date January 21, 2013. From the White House to your house.

I’d package it in a dog house.

Or what the h, send it in a dog carrier on top of a limo. Tacky, sure. But when in Romeney...

So these halfwits think only they keep calendars? AND that some of US were paying attention to the elected libtards and the modtards that hated Newt's history class because it reminded ‘the’ people that we are government?

These leftist were not honest then and they sure have NOT changed their spots. NOT to go ‘religion’ on a political subject, but all these pulling their hair out over ‘adultery’, ought to be reminded that ‘bearing FALSE witness’ ranks right up there in the sin column.

So how much has Mitt had to pay for his votes so far???? I kinda look at that as proper lens for this term a ‘fine’ myself.

...and he can’t even lay it off on a PAC. This is the reason why I won’t pull the lever for him (no matter how much annie coulter whines about him being “the only choice”)

Mitt will never “sell” the Southern States. Is NOT going to happen, no matter how much he spends or who he buys off.

I was wondering if anyone would remember that the whole thing was a smear manufactured by the libs - partly in retaliation for Jim Wright’s being forced out (Wright was a crook)- and that the craven GOP tried to buy peace with the MSM by throwing Newt under the bus. He was vindicated, but the damage was already done.

By the way, the coward-in-chief in charge of the “ethics” committee was Nancy Johnson, an R rep from Connecticut.

Wonder why ol' Ann Coulter or Brit Hume didn't bring up this little episode when talking about negatives?

They claim Newt is too angry to win nationally but shall we talk about petty?

Romney is a plastic, petty man. He doesn't appeal to his base and if he can't win over his base, he can't win period!
