The short, unpleasant life of John F. Kennedy
Minneapolis Star Tribune ^ | 1/21/12 | Jason Lewis

Fifty one years after a young president from Massachusetts delivered a stirring inaugural address on a frigid day in the nation's capital, contemporary politicians still aspire to the Kennedy mystique.

Hey, Red Star Tribune! He’s dead. Killed by one of your fellow socialists. Get over it.

The short, unpleasant life ...
No Kennedy ever lived an unpleasant life, except for Rosemary.

Yeah, that makes sense, unpleasant. Oh, dear, he had a back injury, and yet he perservered.

By Joseph’s own account, he settled a million dollars on each of his children at 21 “so they can spit in my eye if they want to.” That’s just good parenting. That was back when a million dollars *was* a million dollars.

i.e. spare me the big boo-hoo.

He scheduled one of his back surgeries in order to be absent from the Senate during the vote on the condemnation of Joseph McCarthy.

This op-ed appears to be more of the partisan media shill attack on Republicans and conservatives. JFK was like a lot of people, he something of a social liberal (probably explains his 3000 one-night affairs) and a military hawk.

The women they married were the ones with the unpleasant lives. Was there ever such a thing as a Kennedy who didn’t cheat and drink?

JFK was secretly hospitalized in dozens of instances, was given last rites three times and was essentially kept alive, according to Reeves, by "complicated daily combinations of pills and injections".

There were massive amounts of cortisone injections to fight off Addison's disease, a life-threatening ailment at the time; more steroids for a prewar back condition that resulted in spinal fusions and botched surgeries (he was wearing a back brace the day he died); a chronic stomach condition, most likely ulcerative colitis, that kept Kennedy in agony and battling debilitating bouts of diarrhea; painkillers, hormones, stimulants, sleeping pills, and a cholesterol count somewhere around 400.

Yuck. That does sound miserable. I wouldn't want to feel that way no matter how much money and power came with it.

Interestingly, its author, Jason Lewis, occasionally subs for Rush Limbaugh.

How unpleasant can life be when you have Frank Sinatra and Peter Lawford in Hollywood pimping for you and getting you meat like Angie Dickerson and Marilyn Monroe.

Jackie wasn’t all that bad to have to sleep with either, when no one else was around.

Money running out of his ears, treated like a rock star, the press fawning over you.

Sure 51 is young to die, too young.
My father died at 51, he wasn’t rich, he was barely middle income, but he worked hard ,paid his bills, loved his family , went to Church, worked hard in the Community with United Givers , Fire department,Highly thought of ,and kept his Johnson in his pants. He was a great man, where JFK had the trappings of a great man but the morals of an alleycat.

JFK and his brothers do not go down in my book as great men.
Just rich playboys who’s toys were our Government

His own party got him. There was a story a few days back about some Democrats getting convicted for stealing votes in an election. One of the thugs said they would do anything to win. THEY WILL DO ANYTHING TO WIN.

He died at age 46. The article says he was inaugurated 51 years ago.

The short, unpleasant life of John F. Kennedy

Somehow I expect that a shrill leftist a la Debbie Wasserman Shultz, or possibly Sheila Jackson Lee will come to the conclusion that somehow it was Bush's Fault!

Sorry about that.

I guess I should have read it closer.

More asinine knee-padded Kennedy worship. They won’t go away, are less and less relevant to anything, and they just get goofier looking.

“(cynics still wonder why Lt. Kennedy’s boat was the only one in the war sliced in half by a Japanese destroyer,”

His commander must have been a cynic since he wanted a court martial for young Master Kennedy for dereliction of duty.
But Dad called the Secretary of the Navy and—like LBJ’s Silver Star—Jack was awarded the Navy Cross:
both tied for the most undeserved, but also most appreciated, medals ever awarded to future politicians.*

Funny thing is that I read just like you did, then I thought “Wait a minute - he wasn’t that old.” I had to look it up to verify. Then I re-read the article and saw what the “51” meant.

I suggest you check your sources. JFK's commanding officer was almost court martialed for not going out to look for JFK after they were reported missing. JFK did not receive the Navy Cross..he received the Navy and Marine Corps medal.
Kennedy fought his way into uniform, and almost lost his life. If you want to factually criticize someone..go after “willy the wanker”..our very own draft-dodger.

I don’t think he was awarded a Navy Cross. It was something much farther down the line, like maybe a Navy Commendation.

"... there is always inequity in life. Some men are killed in a war, and some men are wounded, and some men never leave the country, and some men are stationed in the Antarctic, and some are stationed in San Francisco. It’s very hard in military or in personal life to assure complete equality. Life is unfair. Some people are sick and others are well."

- JFK, March 21st 1962 press conference (no teleprompter)
It has been speculated that the last line here was referring to himself.
