Davos elites to seek reforms of 'outdated' capitalism

Economic and political elites meeting this week at the Swiss resort of Davos will be asked to urgently find ways to reform a capitalist system that has been described as "outdated and crumbling."

"We have a general morality gap, we are over-leveraged, we have neglected to invest in the future, we have undermined social coherence, and we are in danger of completely losing the confidence of future generations," said Klaus Schwab, host and founder of the annual World Economic Forum.

"Solving problems in the context of outdated and crumbling models will only dig us deeper into the hole.

"We are in an era of profound change that urgently requires new ways of thinking instead of more business-as-usual," the 73-year-old said, adding that "capitalism in its current form, has no place in the world around us."

Some 1,600 economic and political leaders, including 40 heads of states and governments, will be asked to come up with new ideas as they converge at eastern Switzerland's chic ski station for the 42nd edition of the five-day World Economic Forum which opens Wednesday.

It’s these very same “elites” that have mucked it up in the first place.

I think their cure will be far, far worse than the disease!

I can’t wait to hear Newt’s “take” on this swell plan. I also hear that the Occupy creeps are camped out in Davos and poised to ceate havoc (good).

They are doubling down on their socialist ideas and blaming capitalism.

I saw an article a while back from the guy who owns Formula 1, he’s one of those Davos elites. He said the same thing and openly supported totalitarian government.

They don’t want the little people endangering their way of life.

So we’re going to double down on all the stuff that hasn’t worked?

Good idea. :)

Well since no one is going to stop them, why not? :)

"capitalism in its current form, has no place in the world around us."

I agree. But not in the sense Mr. Bureaucrat means it.

I did a search and read some of his other speeches. He’s big into globalization and global government.

Can’t be happening. Every time I make mention of these elites on FR, some wiseass living in Mayberry comes along to tell me to straighten my tin foil hat and ask me why I hate America.

We have to stop using the Marxist term, "capitalism." Free enterprise, the free market, or free exchange are all preferable terms, and describe the "system" better.

In reality, the marketplace isn't an artificial construct. It is simply the state of nature. Exchanging goods and services is as natural as breathing. Socialism is an artificial and harmful political construct.

Thats not a problem with capitalism, its a problem with the people who over-leveraged, borrowing money they didn't pay back, who were immoral, who undermined social coherence, who spent the patrimony of future generations and now want more power over the very economy they ruined.

Keynes told them that their way would eventually collapse, they just didn’t figure it would be during their lifetimes.
