First lady Michelle Obama on Wednesday unveiled tougher nutrition standards that school meals will have to meet starting this year.

The new standards were required by the 2010 school nutrition bill that increased funding for school meals. The new regulations, according to the Department of Agriculture, will:

Congress weakened proposed Department of Agriculture nutrition regulations in the spending bills approved last month following intense lobbying from the frozen pizza and potato industries. But consumer groups still praised the final rules unveiled Wednesday.

he needs the additional protein in his diet for workouts

You mean. . . he exercises? He burns off the calories he eats? Wow. Who'd have thought that could happen? I wonder if Michelle knows about this concept.

I went on a gluten free, low fat, no protien, no carbohydrate diet.

I’ve been dead seven weeks now.

:).

Eat paleo, Laz! You will find yourself feeling great, enjoying your food, throwing away your prescription to the little blue pills, and buying two small bathtubs for your back deck.

Well, I hope our private school never pulls that crap. Or else we will be shopping for a new one.

I don’t have a problem with good nutrition or even teaching people about healthy eating habits. I do have a problem with the arrogance of anyone deciding what someone else can or can not eat. Of course, any time you take money from someone, you become subject to the strings attached.

And, horrors of horrors he sits at a table and does his homework and sits at his computer playing video games.

I read that the Los Angeles Unified School District is looking at bringing back some of the original items since so many students refused to eat the food. Hugh amounts of untouched milk and ‘healthy food’ are going into the trash.

Also, there is a big ‘black market’ for “bad foods” at the LAUSD schools.

Let’s hear it for the students!

More food will end up in the lunchroom garbage. More students will bring their lunch. More students will have a side business of selling cokes and candy.

So sorry to hear of your demise. Why don’t you go back to eating like normal?

I have heard of a number of school systems that prohibit children from bringing lunch. You either eat the school provided lunch, or you don’t eat.

That's because parents are too involved with their own lives to fight for their kids. It's very easy to get stupid rules changed. There wasn't a year that went by that I didn't hear of something ridiculous at 3:30 pm and have the school correct their stance by 8 am the next morning. A few well placed phone calls and you'd be amazed at how fast these bone heads will have a new vision on things.

They are purposely taking Protein out of the diets in order to wimpify the young boys.

And saturated fat and sodium are not a health problem for most kids. It’s the sugar and refined starch that makes them lethargic little blobs.

I know! The question shouldn’t be what people think of her “standards”, it should be who the heck is she to be enacting binding “standards” or “requirements” in the first place!

Maybe she's yet another one of Zero's "czars", or "czarina", it's not like these two ghetto-fabulous upstarts don't think we have some kind of elective monarchy in this country! Yet another example showing that they understand nothing about America except how destroy her, and Zero's such a puppet he gets guidance on Soros to do that

Here’s a revolutionary & novel idea:

If parents are concerned about school cafeteria food quality, let THEM pack the kid a lunch.

Or take it up with the local School Board, or maybe the state.

Like they are too stupid figure out that the should serve more fruits and vegetables and cook less with lard.

Actually, lard is incredibly healthy, assuming it hasn’t be made shelf stable like transfats.

Same for coconut oil. The kind you pay top dollar in a health food store (not the stuff the junk food industry uses because it’s cheap and stable) is fantastic, and tastes great.

Canola isn’t a godsend, but is so highly processed it rancid by the time it’s bottled.

I’ll take butter, olive oil, peanut oil, and fresh unprocessed lard, natural coconut oil or duck fat if I’m really fortunate.

It may sound insane, but some smart Freepers will be backing me up on all this.

Incidentally, I drink a little more than moderately (never while Freeping) and my doctor says healthwise I’m easily 10 years younger than my chronological age.

what qualifies her to make these rules or laws??

She has NO medical training or degree, she is not nor has ever studied Nutrition to my knowledge..

I can see FLOTUS doing volunteer work, and assisting in helping charities but making LAWS...NO WAY

we didn't hire her nor is she on a salary with the Government, at least it isn't reported if she is...

send her back to south side Chicago...
