2012 Primary Schedule
The 2012 GOP primary/caucus schedule is nearly set in stone. The calendar dates below are believed to be accurate unless last minute changes occur to the schedule. Always check with your local board of elections to verify election dates, times and locations ahead of time. Note that "Super Tuesday" in 2012 falls on March 6th, however, it is a little less "super" than it has been in years past.

The Maine caucuses really begin tomorrow, 1/28. 2/4 is the date “suggested” by the Maine GOP. But they start tomorrow, several caucuses between now and 2/4.
So send money.

Here is a list of the schedule with the number of delegates each state has. I’d be curious to see which states are likely to go to Newt so we can get some idea of how many delegates he might end up with. Delegate allocation is insanely complicated though, as shown at this link:

The Louisiana Caucus is April 28th.
Nice! Let’s start with the “winner take all” and sort out the others as we go along. Eh?
Awesome info site.
Go Newt!
I listed the states with delegates in order from conservative to liberal based on Gallup’s polling. I put WTA by the winner-take-all ones, although there are caveats on some of them such as it only being WTA if the winner gets over 50% of the vote.
Of course the hope would be that Newt could do well in all the CON states, although he has to write off the second most CON state, Utah, completely, since Romney will win it due to the Mormons and it’s pure winner-take-all.
It looks like Newt either has to win the CON states by significantly bigger margins than Romney wins the LIB and MOD states, or Newt has to start picking off more MOD states. Trouble is most of those MOD states are already won by other people or are likely to go to Romney. Maybe there are 5 or so Newt still has a chance in.

Question of the Day: When does it make sense to switch allegiances from Newt to Santorum?
I was thrilled when Newt won big in South Carolina...but since then he’s done nothing but lost momentum while Santorum has won 4 out of the 8 contests.
Of the next 17 contests I see Newt maybe, possibly winning THREE: Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama.
Mitt will do well in Michigan, Idaho, Massachusetts, Vermont
Santorum should sweep North Dakota, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Kansas.
Ron Paul - Maine & Virginia (minus Newt or Santorum)
Toss ups: Arizona, Ohio, Washington, Alaska & US Virgin Islands.
Santorum could win most of the toss ups and all of the southern states if Newt would step aside and not split the conservative vote!
