Evangelicals, Tea Party Breaking Hard for Gingrich in Florida Primary
The Christian Post ^ | 1/25/2012 | Paul Stanley

A new Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday reveals that evangelicals and Tea Party supporters are breaking hard for Newt Gingrich in Florida, putting the former House Speaker within two points of front-runner and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

A press release describing the poll states Gingrich "leads among white evangelical Christians 43 - 30 percent and among those who consider themselves to be tea party supporters 43 - 28 percent." Each segment makes up roughly a third of primary voters, according to Quinnipiac pollsters, "although there is substantial overlap among those two groups."

Coming off the heels of his victory in the South Carolina GOP primary, rising evangelical and Tea Party support has allowed Gingrich to slash nearly 10 points off of Romney's lead with less than a week to go before Florida's GOP primary.

I just hope the momentum has started to swing back to Newt. As has been said I also hope Newt’s supporters are more fervent in their voting than Mitts and are more likely to turn out. GO NEWT GO!

I am really concerned about your evangelical leader...

Me too, especially since neither Newt nor Santorum are Protestants, and the inference is that the pastor doesn't know that.

Rick I like you a lot and you would go so much more respect if you put conservatives first, stop Govt health care and endorse Newt right now and I would hope Newt pays you back for being a good conservative man who stood ion principles and not ego or the establishment.

If you do this then conservatives would not forget it and would help you for the future much more and Perry got a lot of respect when he put country first, please for the love of this country endorse Newt and tell the voters to vote for Newt to stop the establishment and the left gaining even more ground

Just back from the polling booth in Nassau County...very republican county in Florida. Poll worker told me he was surprised about the turnout as it has been consistent all day. This is also a strong tea party area...my sense is most of these are Newt votes.

IMO, any uptick in the votes for Santorum will hurt Newt the most.

I wonder if the establishment attacking Newt will have the opposite desired impact?

Before this week in Florida, I would have held my nose and voted for Romney. But now I feel like 3rd party is the way to go (if he wins).

I wonder how many were thinking...I’ll vote for Romney because he’s the “Most Electable”, but now are thinking screw the establishment—I’ll vote for Newt just to tell them they don’t control my vote.

And when you hear them talking about a brokered convention if Romney loses—it makes them even more mad because they are saying their vote doesn’t count anyway.

Mysteriously lost and/or found votes will be a factor.

The RomneyBots probably have stacks of them in their trunk, to take out when needed. Heck, Rove's probably got the printing press in his back seat.

I agree. I’ve been listening to Rush and I think what people are doing they are thinking.

“Rush you’re the only one who can save us. Tell them to vote for my guy (fill in the blank). And if you don’t you’re damning us to hell. You owe it to us to pick my guy.”

And then they are like this too when he says anything negative or positive about anyone by just reporting the news.

“OMG Rush you completely threw Newt under the bus by talking about Romney today.”

Santorum did very well overall at the last debate and is so sure of his distant defeat he went back home to PA. Nothing wrong with that, he has a big family who miss him.

But he’s out of this race for lack of funds unless he wants to stick around to see if Newt self-destructs. He could do that too.

Romney is surging based on Friday polling data and is now going to either prove to be a nightmare for conservatives or prove some wrong that he will disappoint on occasion. It’s hard to say. Does a man move to his roots or not after gaining the Oval Office.

Bamster moved to his roots as a radical from Chicago. Romney may move to his more conservative roots as well

Has Newt attacked Paul Ryan’s plan curbing government spending this week? lol

You don’t want Ron Paul to drop yet. The Paulistinians will play a vital part in taking VA from Mitt. Our people should be prepare to vote Paul to snatch that expected victory.

If Romney would have visited some Tea Party rallies and renounced his stupid Romney Care bill as unworthy he could have been the undisputed frontrunner at this time. Prayers that we the ignored Tea party will sink the good ship yacht Romney's expensive voyage to nowhere!

Ever time I hear 'newt's baggage' I hear media talking point.

When will we hear about mitt's baggage in the media so that can be the talking point? And romneycare needs a trunk of it's own.

So enough of the newt baggage. Speak about him being in the trenches for years fighting for the good cause right along with Patriot Reagan. Why is that so silent? With his obvious brilliance - he could have been in private industry all these years and as a visionary there is no telling where it would have taken him. Instead he chose what he loves - AMERICA!

So this local evangelical leader has no problem on his pro abortion stance, his gay marriages, 189 I believe are NOT a factor? I'd spit on that guy for representing Christianity that way! And we wonder how Barry got it?

Gingrich’s “baggage” bothers them greatly but religion trumps.

Yeah, I already see their twisted logic and mitt's baggage they embrace.

Did you asked him what is Newt's baggage? I'd like to hear what he calls baggage.

LOL. Just reminds me of that lady that called Rush the other day. She said something like she was tired of hearing about Newt's baggage when we haven't even seen inside Mitt's suitcase.LOL

Seriously though, I leave judgment on Newt's personal life up to God. OTOH, Romney's pro-abortion, gay marriage, etc. policies in Massachusetts bothers me more. I don't want him forcing this stuff on us even more than it has been already, and sure as heck don't want him appointing the next Supreme Court Justice.

Politicians say what they think they need to say to get elected. If you want to know what they will do look at their record. Newt's record is better than Romney's.

I pray the Lord will lift Newt up and give him this win.

I agree but pray that the voters will listen. God doesn't make anyone do the right thing, it has to come from within.
