Newsmax ^ | 1-29-2012 | Staff

A new InsiderAdvantage poll conducted Sunday night of likely Republican voters in the state of Florida shows a significant surge for Newt Gingrich.

The poll has Mitt Romney leading with 36 percent of voters, followed by Gingrich at 31 percent.

The Sunday results of 646 likely GOP voters are as follows: Romney 36 percent Gingrich 31 percent Santorum 12 percent Paul 12 percent Other/Undecided 9 percent "The race will be tighter than expected," Matt Towery, chief pollster of InsiderAdvantage told Newsmax.

Towery noted that his poll showed a surge for Romney on Wednesday, with him leading Gingrich by 8 points. The InsiderAdvantage poll was among the first to show Romney's resurgence after his dismal showing in the S. Carolina primary.

The InsiderAdvantage poll was also the first to show Gingrich's rise in S. Carolina and accurately forecast his win there.

"The trend is favoring Gingrich," Towery said, noting that while Romney's lead was still outside the margin of error of 3.8 percent, "It's not by much.".........

Here’s a link to the scene from Scent of a Woman where Al Pacino gives his “If I was the man I was 5 years ago, I’d take a flamethrower to this place!”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xgQIokLsDI at around 2:55

I think that’s the attitude Newt needs to have towards DC. He needs to show that passion that he’s going to root out the establishment-of both parties. That he’s running to give power back to the people, not to the elites. He’s not running so the same old crowd that was in charge under W can come riding back in. He’s running so a brand new crowd can saddle up and ride herd. He’s not running to return the establishment to power, he’s running to remove them from power and replace them.

Making that anti-establishment theme explicit and running on it and showing that passion a la Pacino would be a good start.

Santorum's 12% in winner-take-all Florida is totally useless and sure would help Newt stop the Romney Express. I think Santorum is too self-absorbed to step up. We'll see.

Not that it would actually happen, but you think that a good number of conservatives wouldn’t jump at the chance to vote for Jeb Bush instead of Newt Gingrich? Not that Jeb is a great conservative, but Newt has a lot of baggage that people are overlooking because they really don’t want Romney.

"I heard there were about 8,000 folks at the Villages to see Newt. Would like to hear from a patriot who was there."

I watched it on C-Span today and they spaned the crowd and it was like a sea of people. Compare that to the C-Span coverage on Romney. They don't span the audiance. It just shows Mitt and the people behind him.

{not true at all

Obama, W, Clinton, 41, Reagan, Carter, Nixon, LBJ, etc... none gave the rebuttal]

Well, he didn’t say all, and he also gave 4 examples, but I made no effort to remember them.LOL

Rick Santorum’s children, and ALL of our children, need the best, and that would be Rick Santorum. It’s way too early for anyone to drop out, and Rick’s not a quitter.

I don’t expect the most conservative candidate, Rick Santorum to win in liberal Florida, but wait until after that.

“But I can’t believe the folks here who are trying to use a personal tragedy in Santorum’s life to help get Newt elected.”

I trust you don’t mean me. I reported on Bella’s condition and I know if Santorum leaves her and she dies when he’s not there, he will never forgive himself. He needs to drop out for his family - and, when he does that, endorse Newt, not Romney, because that election is going to happen Tuesday.

I read on another thread that you need at least 1500 to get an accurate poll in Florida. Also that Romney usually underperforms his polls(maybe a certain lack of excitement or enthusiasm?).

One of my great nephews said last week. I like Newt, he’s a nerd like me.

But we all are a little like that. He doesn’t put of aires. Love it when the little smile appears at the corner of his mouth. One can almost see the wheels turning and then he so elogantly starts explaining. He is SO knowledgable.

Yeh, and Greta also said that she invited Romeny/team to participate in Florida, and was declined.

Zactly!!

Exactly HOW pro-life are you, really, Rick Santorum??

I’ve heard all my conservative life how pro-life you are.

I’ve watched you and watched you. And you convinced ME to be pro-life, and strengthened my resolve on many occasions.

But NOW — only YOU have a chance tosee that the pro-life agenda truly lives ... only YOU.

Come on Rick!!!!!!!

Maybe (s)he means me.

But the fact remains that Santorum is too low in the polls in Florida to matter, but his votes combined with Gingrich's would beat Romney's.

At some point, Santorum has to realize that he's repeating his behavior that led to electing Specter over Toomey.

If he does it a second time, he's politically done as a conservative Republican. No conservative would trust him a third time.

Claiming "pressing family matters" is a way of leaving the race and saving face, allowing him to serve again at another time.

"You can make calls for Newt into Florida from his national phone banks, which frees people up locally to do more face-to-face. Please do some calling tomorrow."

So are you saying I can call from Washington State into Florida even though I don't have a cell phone or long distance on my landline phone? If I can is there a site that tells me how and what to say?

If Newt won Florida and the GOP-e put Jeb in the race then enough people would move to him that it would be impossible for Newt to get the nom.

Perhaps Newt really is just waiting for Mitt’s point of no return....then BOOM! up pops NewtZilla :-)

Remember, this is the guy that brought in a Repub majority after 40yrs... and did lots of other stuff considered impossible until he did it.

Newt might pull this off!

Romney's numbers are always overrated.

Plan to spend Monday evening making calls for Newt. I hate to call up strangers, but i’m going to get over it and just call as many as I can. Who cares.

If everyone of us did that ... just go to Newt.org and you can be signed up to do it in minutes.

Newt was great on Lunzt’s panel w/ real voters. Just got through watching it .... I have to hand it to Luntz on Fox for putting it together.
