I have a hard time with the way the media plays it too.....as though flat in the dirt on one’s back getting pummelled in thead head leaves open a lot of options.
Anyone judging this man has not a single clue of what he went through.....nor what the monsters perpetrated.
These people think life is an old “A Team” episode. Machine gun fire, explosions, car wrecks and fights, yet nobody gets more than a bloody nose.

The sister talking about a warning shot is only trying to process the pain of her loss. It is sad that the kid chose the wrong path and paid with his life.
So many of the posters on this thread are disgusting. They know nothing of the family, yet deride them in their time of grief. It makes me frequent FR less.

didn’t deserve to die either, and the same thug mentality that was directly responsible for Nguyen’s death was tried on the gentleman who was able to defend himself.
A hundred unsolved crimes cleared, a thousand future crimes averted.
I’m all for that warning shot. The first one center body and the second one right after.

In this case, a parent. Statistics demonstrate that single mothers are far more likely to produce criminal offspring. She has two children with names different from her own. I doubt it was because she was married twice.
This indicates failing, twice, on her part, even before parenting is involved.
Statistics are, again, that even as a single parent, she made no great effort to raise her thug in a good way, instead seeking more gratification for herself and neglecting her children.
Right now she is experiencing remorse on what she could have done, perhaps on his last day or two, to make her robber son not get shot while robbing. Sorry, too late.
She had at least a dozen years to show him the right way to live. She apparently had other things to do.
The young fellow would have been well served to have been locked up for his first infraction thus protecting him from the dangerous public.

Bad kids come from families of one and two parents. It may be true that it is higher in single parent, it still doesn’t mean that every single parent has a bad kid.

The kid’s male DNA donor is likely either dead or in prison.
When you decide to carry a weapon you need to know that if you need to pull it then you need to be willing to end a life and live with the consequences. Maybe this guy will not have nightmares or cold sweats, but his friends and family will never look at him the same way again.
Yes he did the right thing absolutely beyond the shadow of a doubt, but when you end someone elses life you also significantly change your own.
Why?
