The Council on American-Islamic Relations announced Monday night that it had successfully prevented retired Lieutenant General William G. “Jerry” Boykin from speaking at an upcoming prayer breakfast at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
“We welcome Mr. Boykin’s withdrawal from this event and hope that the speaker who replaces him will offer cadets a spiritual message that promotes tolerance and mutual understanding,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad in a statement.
West Point initially balked at the calls to remove Boykin — a former military intelligence officer — from the event.
Lt. Col. Sherri Reed of West Point told The Associated Press that cadets are “purposefully exposed to different perspectives and cultures.”
“The National Prayer Breakfast Service will be pluralistic with Christians, Jewish, and Muslim cadets participating,” Reed said. “We are comfortable and confident that what retired Lt. Gen. Boykin will share about prayer, soldier care and selfless service, will be in keeping with the broad range of ideas normally considered by our cadets.”
Boykin backed out of the event on his own volition, according to a report from Fox News.
The retired lieutenant general has been on CAIR’s radar for casting Islam in a poor light, specifically in speeches in which he analogizing the War on Terror to a war against Satan.
CAIR and the group VoteVets.org pushed hard for a retraction of Boykin’s invitation to the event due to his “Islamophobic” views.
CAIR and People For the American Way failed to stop a speech Boykin gave in Ocean City, Md., last week. This week it seems they have been successful.

Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but the USA hasn’t won a war since WWII, and back then it was a military made up of White Christian men run by White Christian men.

Why is CAIR dictating what West Point does? Are they all not a bunch of illegal thugs?
My snail mail in in the mail the Point will claim that Gen.Boykin backed out on his own. An Officer and a Gentleman (a Christian Patriot_ will always so do. But the enemy has not won one. I recall reading somewhere the advice “if they persecute you in one city shake the very dust from your shoes and flee to the next. Now is the time for Christians in America to to remember the doctrines of Jesus Christ-and guns up and eyes open cause they’s indians about.
I do not have 30+ years in the mil.... but I do have 20 (and retired) You like I can have our opinions. my opinion is stated. When Americans (especially retired mil) bend over for political expediency it denigrates the whole shooting match.
And explain to me why someone of his stature and service is so concerned with the feelings of a clearly conflicted group (as CAIR) and to not speak at his Alma Matter is an act that is beneath him and his status.
Too many people have paid too high a price to be marginalized by political correctness.

could it be that he was told to cool it on religion that might offend the perpetually offended and he refused to put muslim on the same level as christian and jews....

West Point is not Boykin’s alma mater. Gen. Boykin was born in New Bern, North Carolina. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) with a bachelor’s degree in English in 1971. Boykin went to Armed Forces Staff College, Army War College, and Shippensburg University (where he received a Masters Degree).
Not a bad idea, really.

Well that let’s out a muslim since they are the most intolerant and least understanding people on the planet.....
CAIR is Muslim Brotherhood, ideological allies of Al Qaeda and terrorists in their own right. In a sane world, every member of CAIR, ISNA and the MSA would be detained. In a PC world, they get to control our conversation on Islam.
My 18 months in the theater reinforced my lifetime conclusion that things are not necessarily as they appear.
The academy reports that Gen Boykin withdraw of his own volition.
How likely is it that the WH, currently infested with muslim “advisors” and “consultants” did not have a hand in the agenda of this military event, even if indirect?
Is it not possible the academy, or even the chain above it was “informally” advised by operatives in the WH that it would be in the best interest of the nation if such “controversial” individuals did not use the military as a platform?
How likely is it that Gen Boykin would have insisted on participating if he had been informed that there was real concern in the entire chain of command that his participation would not serve the interest of the academy?
What aret the odds if he had beeen cordially asked by those in the higher chain to please reconsider his participation, that he would not have done so.
I am inclined to give a proven warrior such as Gen Boykin the benefit of all these questions. And that is before any thought is given to thug tactics by his opponents and others, that may well have been in play.
Whatever your view, you have the credentials to voice it and I respect that. You also know our nation is in a struggle for survival and that struggle is with more than just the socialists now active in our government and major institutions. That the struggle is complicated by the fact that one force poses as a religion and we dare not identify it as an enemy.
Keep your eye on the road.

Being the type of individual that "I" am, if the opportunity presented it's self to attend, and some turd organization protested, I would have gone just to piss them off. but that is just me.

I have seen too many alleged leaders capitulate for political expediency, when they should have (IMHO) stood their ground.
My time in the Mil leaders like Al Grey (Marine Corps, Commandant) was the farthest from a political type and spoke his mind regardless of who was listening.
Unfortunately warriors like his caliber are a dying breed.

What America needs now is leaders, and leaders who are not afraid (not the risk averse idiots who are thinking of their next promotion)
