Updated Jan. 31, 2012: Support for former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney has remained one of the few constants during the Republican nomination race. But as contenders to Mr. Romney have emerged and then faded, the GOP still seems hesitant to embrace him.
The most recent candidate to play the Anyone But Romney role is former House speaker Newt Gingrich, who recently finished first in the partys South Carolina primary.
The National Posts graphics team takes a look at the ups and downs of the race so far.

The GOP-e is at war against conservatives, tea partiers and evangelicals, but with all their money, all their sycophants in the mainstream media (including Faux News), Romney still can’t get more than 30% support. Conservaties of all stripes need to unite and blast this establishment leftist RINO loser the hell out of the race!!
We will get the word out through our groups before the sun rises. The time has come for all good men to come to the aid of our country.
God Bless us all!
The liberal establishment RINO GOP is burning the bridge with conservatives and the Tea Party by undermining conservative after conservative in this race. They better not ever look to me for help because I’m done with that Party.
This is a war for the soul of the party, between the professional “GOP establishment” and the GOP rank and file.
The purported “leadership” of the party doesn’t like its own membership nor does it believe in the party’s own principles which, to me, begs the question “how do you get to be ‘leader’ of a party you don’t like and don’t believe in?”.
And, what kind of disaster is it going to take for the membership to finally take control of their own party back from the usurpers? Wasn’t one McCain and one Obama enough? Do we have to go back for seconds?
Ok...
When the GOP gets Willard nominated... Where do we go then? Libertarian Party? Constitution Party? American Libtery Party? Start a Party from scratch and maybe get ballot access in another 20 years?
I have my own ideas on what should be done, but I want to hear what you think should be done. Other than the oft repeated refrain of “No Romney”. I agree with that, but that matter may be entirely out of our hands...
If/when the GOP ends up with Willard, what then Jim?
To hell with the GOP-e and Willard the RAT!! Coalesce around our leading conservative candidate, the pro-life, small government, strong defense, Reagan conservative, Newt Gingrich and exterminate the RATS!!
So if Willard gets the GOP nod, we are going to do a write-in campaign for Newt?
Not only does Romneys coronation get rid of the Tea Party and conservatives for Rove and his RINO Country Club Status Quo bunch, it helps the dems keep the continuity of their schtick.
Obama and Romney are IDENTICAL politically, ESPECIALLY when it comes to the VERY important decision on permanently totally repealing Obamacare.
Obama can counter every political Romney arguement with I know YOU are, but what am I and clobber him over the head HARD with the 99% crap that hes a 1%er.
Geeee....that only leaves ONE itty - bitty difference.
Wanna guess what THAT is?????? Try skin pigmentation.
It worked for Obama BIG TIME in 2008. Romney is the ONLY candidate they can REALLY use it on because they are identical in almost every other way.
Romney WON'T attack Obama like he has Newt, because they will pin the "racist" tag on him so fast that his head will spin faster that his political flip-flops.
So Myth will "play nice" with Obama, he'll try to get everyone to sing "America The Beautiful" ( the fake crap he semms to be doing at ALL his Florida stops) and get KILLED in Nov, as is the GOP-e"plan" (see pic above), except Romney AND Rick don't seem to see it......YET.
With the Tea Party out of the way of BOTH parties for 2012 and 2016, Romney out of the way for 2012 AND 2016, the dems TOTALLY despised after 8 years of Obama, Rove and the boys can run Jeb for 2016 with NOBODY in their way.
OBTW, The pic below was taken last Friday afternoon Jan27th, 2012 , the day after "Bloody-Up Newt" Thursday by every RINO Country Clubber in this particular corner of the universe.
How many photos of those three together have YOU seen??
Pretty much ALL the polls earier in the week had Newt leading in Florida, until the "suddenly" orchestrated RINO Newt attack which culminated Thursday before the debate, and THEN on Friday, I see THIS photo??
What in the heck could the three of them "constructively" have important enough in common to "get together" and talk about??
Maybe Barry just wanted ask them over to find out how "W" was doin', you know, the son and brother of the two guys in the pic who he STILL TO THIS MINUTE blames EVERYTHING bad that has happened to date in his administration on and two years before he replaced him in office???
Yeah, that's the ticket.
I have an idea, and I mentioned it in the post above the pic..
(Sorry, but my Reynolds Wrap cap dang near fell off when I saw it.)
If I was on facebook I would “like” your comment.
If/when the GOP ends up with Willard, what then Jim?

Like my Uncle Joe used to say; “We’ll burn that bridge when we get to it”.
But... my Uncle Joe was strange.
Secession.
If you were to look at a film negative of Idi Obama, you would see Mitt Romney the GOP-E Dope.
“Coalesce around our leading conservative candidate, the pro-life, small government, strong defense, Reagan conservative, Newt Gingrich and exterminate the RATS!!”
It’s war, and that’s precisely what we have to do. There is no choice. They are trying to “Alynski” we Conservatives into a third party to make us inconsequential. We can’t fall for that trick. We have to overwhelm them at their game, and make them the losers.
Trouble is who to unite behind? All these guys have flaws to one degree or the other though the consensus seems to be that Newt is the most credible of the field left to challenge Romney. Florida is kind of make or break for an alternative to Romney though. If Newt doesnt at least keep it close in Florida he will probably start hitting money problems and wont be able to compete aggressively elsewhere.
If he keeps it close he may be able to get a decent campaign cobbled together but it will be tough. Keep in mind he is not even on the ballot in MO and VA.
We all immediately re-register as independents or members of another party. We must then resign ourselves to 4 more years of Obama, but we have to work like heck to make sure that he faces a conservative House and Senate to thwart all his evil socialist plans.
When the GOP has about 10% of the population registered as Republicans, then maybe at that point we can mount a solid Conservative Party and make the GOP the irrelevant 3rd party.
Thanks to RINOmney, I shall remove my name as a registered Republican. As far as I am concerned the Republican party can shove it up their smelly Obamas.
The word is “conservative”. I am one of those.
A write-in campaign for Newt is going to take a lot of heavy lifting and serious finances.
