Pakistan is helping Afghan Taliban, says Nato report (ISI in cahoots with Taliban)

The Taliban in Afghanistan are being directly assisted by Pakistani security services, according to a secret Nato report seen by the BBC.

The leaked report, derived from thousands of interrogations, claims the Taliban remain defiant and have wide support among the Afghan people.

It alleges that Pakistan knows the locations of senior Taliban leaders.

A BBC correspondent says the report is painful reading for international forces and the Afghan government.

Pakistan has strenuously denied any links with the Taliban on previous occasions.

"We have long been concerned about ties between elements of the ISI and some extremist networks," said US Pentagon spokesman Captain John Kirby, adding that the US Defence Department had not seen the report.

'Informational'

The BBC's Quentin Sommerville in Kabul says the report - on the state of the Taliban - fully exposes for the first time the relationship between the Pakistani intelligence service (ISI) and the Taliban.

The report is based on material from 27,000 interrogations with more than 4,000 captured Taliban, al-Qaeda and other foreign fighters and civilians.

It notes: "Pakistan's manipulation of the Taliban senior leadership continues unabatedly". It says that Pakistan is aware of the locations of senior Taliban leaders.

The report states: "As this document is derived directly from insurgents it should be considered informational and not necessarily analytical." Continue reading the main story “Start Quote

Afghan civilians frequently prefer Taliban governance over the Afghan government, usually as a result of government corruption”

Leaked Nato report

Despite Nato's strategy to secure the country with Afghan forces, the secret document details widespread collaboration between the insurgents and Afghan police and military.

There seems to be an unending supply of Taliban. There will never be democracy in Afghanistan, even if we were to defeat the Taliban. Get us the hell out of there and let them ferment in their own crap, as they have done for centuries.

Major shocker there, since the ISI help create the Taliban and when they became a threat, they kicked them out into Afghanistan years ago.

Time to dismember Pakistan. Turn its various tribes and sects against each other. Secure the nukes and then let India, China and Iran fight over what remains.

Greasy cavemen have been openly playing us for a decade. I'm sick of our nation accepting the role of the willing sap.

Pull our troops out of Afghanistan and stir the pot of both nations.

Take the foreign aid money and invest it in bunker busters. Enough of this crap.

Bush made a strategic mistake of the first order trying to nation build in Afghanistan and Iraq. We should have bloodied the Taliban, armed a new strongman and left within 30 days. Ditto with Iraq. Islam is antithetical to liberty. Where in the history of that religion did a republic, a real republic, ever sprout?

The Arab Spring is the opposite of Spring everywhere else in the world. Why?

Islam is not a religion, it is a way of life dictated by the Koran. There is zero tolerance for other religions in Islam.
