General Motors has thrown the transmission in reverse, exercising options to cancel a substantial portion of its second quarter upfront commitments.
According to several sources, GM has pulled out of nearly 50 percent of its Q2 upfront buys in broadcast and cable, the maximum allowable under the terms of network ad contracts.

A White House directive should be on it’s way, demanding advertising be done at New York Times, CNN, etc,etc,etc...
This is interesting since both the Government and their hangers on continue to try to prop up this company! Guess even government (Obama) can’t hold up this Union controlled enterprise. They have been hyping their sales for months now.
Hope they go down soon and other Non-Union States take up any slack in auto sales.
Watch the Govt come on and buy a whole new fleet to bumpo their sales up.
Thousands of cars and SUV’s put on order, police depts told to buy all new cars etc.
What a screw up this admin has done to this country,
Isn't there something that we as tax payers can do to help?
GM is awfully big to be having cash problems after all.
Had GM refused to take bailout money, restructured, and went public with a campaign about recapturing the marked with American innovation, hard work, and an absolute commitment to quality, they would probably be selling a lot more cars right now. Just my opinion.
What advertising? I can’t remember the last time I saw a GM ad. Must be on public radio, or CNN etc.
You must be one of the few that doesn't watch live sports. Those Chevy ads are wall to wall.
Heh! Hope that happens and the fallout that occurs when trying to charge (or install the required stations) all those vehicles occurs! Will be something to behold!
Can you just see all the police and fire complaints that occur when those responding run out of (power) electricity.
Green but definitely not Mean!
Paying the Bond Holders might have helped also.
If Gummint Motors crashes and burns along with all their greedy UAW parasites, the country will be better off.
I hope this is the next step in the death of that disgustingly corrupt company. There is no situation in which I would buy a GM or Chrysler product, whether manufactured after they stiffed the rightful claimants on their assets and took taxpayer dollars to bail out connected stakeholders, or even before that date. I’m not willing to support the price of used GM products, because that might boost the sales price of their new vehicles. While I dumped all of my GM and Chrysler holdings well before that fiasco, I am disgusted at the corruption of that entire process and will not do anything that contributes to the crooks who obtained a stake in the new GM. GM is dead to me.
* Go to Zero Hedge and see the story today how they are "Stuffing the Pipe", i.e. shipping way more cars than their maybe demand for.
* Sometimes companies ramp up before a turnaround, even given the "fleet" age, I don't see it.
* Rumors of a new cash for clunkers abound.
* Rumors of some sort of American only quasi market protection scheme coming from the Obamatons.
The bottom line?
They got something up their sleeve, and my guess GM has been given a heads up, I am sorry I am that cynical...
It’s all about EARNINGS MANIPULATION.
Obama and Government Motors are trying to MANIPULATE 2nd Quarter earnings which will be reported around August 1st.
Also expect them to MANIPULATE 3rd Quarter earnings which should be reported around November 1st. Unless they delay the reporting until after the Nov 6th election.
Good luck defining an "American only" car.
A 90 day supply sitting on dealer lots, some models over 200 days (THINK VOLT), and GM is CUTTING it’s ad buys in half??
What am I missing here??
OH YEAH, that Manufacturing Report Obama is going to be campaigning on, based on Centrally-Planned GM Production Numbers.
ALL HAIL THE GREAT MESSIAH!!
Hey Folks, guess who is paying ofr all those fancy “VOLT” commercials. We are.
Hope this is the beginning of the end for Government sponsored Motors and that Italian company, Chrysler Fiat.
Maybe this will take down the magic negro.
FUBO and F UAW
