Intelligence Study Links Low I.Q to Prejudice, Racism, Conservative Views (Bart Alert!)

A recent study study from Brock University in Ontario suggests that IQ and the way our brains our formed affects whether someone is conservative or liberal.

The Huffington Post reports that the study, published in Psychological Science, showed that people who score low on I.Q. tests in childhood are more likely to develop prejudiced beliefs and socially conservative politics in adulthood. I.Q. is a score determined by standardized tests, but whether the tests truly reveal intelligence remains a topic for debate among psychologists.

Theories include that people of low intelligence gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, which stress resistance to change and, in turn, prejudice. Less intelligent people are possibly drawn to conservative ideologies because such beliefs feature "structure and order," which make it easier to comprehend a complicated world.

Many of these features can also lead to prejudice, one experts says. Dr. Brian Nosek, a University of Virginia psychologist, reached out to The Huffington Post and stated the following: "Reality is complicated and messy, he wrote in an email. "Ideologies get rid of the messiness and impose a simpler solution. So, it may not be surprising that people with less cognitive capacity will be attracted to simplifying ideologies." Interesting. The one thing that is certain is that this study probably has quite a few people upset! Don't take it to heart, no one said this was written in stone but the explanation does make sense.

Supposedly this is being touted as news among some liberal hatemongers. I notice the study itself is merely mentioned but not heavily sources. I wonder if the study really DOES mention conservative politics.

Of course we know the hip hop community, the target audience of vine.com, is VERY intelligent--no prejudice in THAT community, no sir.

Last post: “sources” should be “sourced”. Damn you, auto-correct!

Hold on for a tick. My last IQ score has me at 150, just into Jeenyuss catagory.

But I view Reagan and Goldwater as far too liberal, because I am THAT conservative.

So maybe the generators of this study are the Low IQ Dolts?

I'll see their study and raise it nine more. ;-)

Articles that explain how modern liberals suffer from a mental disorder.

This article makes perfect sense; it's surprising more reports of this type have not already been published. Observation of the popular culture will reveal that the modern definition of intelligence in the media has actually morphed into acceptance of homosexuality. It's become psychological blackmail: either profess your tolerance or embrace of this perversion or be called stupid.
Up to now it's been subtle but this "revelation" could be indicative of a shift to escalate the pressure on those of us who don't get the message.

Of course, the words prejudice, bigotry and even racism have long ago become euphemisms for opposition to gay rights; this can be seen from the way the language of the left has conflated the ideas together. You're not merely "racist" anymore. Since the '70s you're "racist, sexist, homophobe."

I am betting that Democratic Underground doesn’t have a Word For The Day thread! The dilettantes touting this study probably don’t even know what a dilettante is.

In the 1950s my mother told me that Communists kill those who disagree with their ideology because they are less than human, and therefore all right to get out of the way. It is the same logic applied to political enemies of today and yesterday, with special camps, re-education initiatives, and other features associated with the culture of death. Remember the legacy of Pol Pot?

It is the same logic system that supports abortion. Lawyers simply declare that a developing embryo is less than human and therefore okay to dispense. It is the same logic system that supported slavery; just declare that certain people are subhuman.

Well I’ll just turn my degrees in and go back to dragging my prejudiced knuckles on the ground. I’m so glad they explained why I am so conservative. Mystery solved!

On the several tests I had in my younger days, I scored lowest at 135; and as high as 165.

Makes me smart enough to know the difference between resisting change for the sake of change; advocating for a specific, targeted change that improves or simplifies a condition or process; and fighting for reactionary changes to undo the interminable changes Liberals forced upon us without understanding the reasons for the old ways, or the (to me) obvious consequences of their changes.

Or maybe I’m just an addled curmudgeon, as I’ve been accused of being all too often, who is good at taking IQ tests.

The dilettantes touting this study probably don’t even know what a dilettante is.

I almost got sent to the principal in 6th grade, because I said my life's ambition was to be a retired dilettante.

I have achieved that dream, so the last laugh is on my 'outraged' teacher.

And, yes; I DID know what a dilettante was at the time.

This is like saying, “an apple”, “an orange”, and a jet aircraft”. Two of the three go together. And yes, the first two I believe are linked to either low IQ or very poor self- esteem, violent upbringing, ignorant parents and the like, etc. But obviously the third one, Conservatism, bears NO CONNECTION. How dare they.
