Big Day for Santorum
Public Policy Polling ^ | 2/7/12

Posted on 02/07/2012 4:18:31 AM PST by Huber

Rick Santorum could be headed for a big day in today's contests in Colorado, Minnesota, and Missouri. Missouri looks like a probable win for Santorum. He's at 45% there to 32% for Mitt Romney and 19% for Paul. Minnesota provides an opportunity for a win as well. Currently he has a small advantage with 33% to 24% for Romney, 22% for Newt Gingrich, and 20% for Ron Paul. And Santorum should get a second place finish in Colorado, where Romney appears to be the likely winner. The standings there are Romney at 37%, Santorum at 27%, Gingrich at 21%, and Paul at 13%.

Do you know who the Thompson character, friend of Romney, that is funding Santorum? It’s been posted on a couple of threads.

Is he funding Rick because he knows Mitt, and doesn’t want him to win. Or is he funding Rick because their is an alliance between the two: Rick and Mitt?

Ummm - none of these caucuses matter. No delegates awarded.

Of course they matter. Santorum was the least well known of the GOP candidates (well perhaps with the exception of Huntsman) and his showing well in these states will translate into dollars and media coverage. Those things matter a lot.

Thanks for the smile this morning-—have a great day and good luck to your candidate (since it’s not Romney!)

If Romney is completely vetted he will be.

A freeper last night mentioned Trish Erickson was on local radio promoting her book: CAN MITT ROMNEY SERVE TWO MASTERS? Trish “escaped” Her father had been a Bishop at the same time as Romney. She apparently goes into depth from first hand experience.

Gonna order the book, read and then donate it to the school library.

Bah, I remember the climate back then. When you even have ALLEN WEST on the radio saying that Cain should drop out, there isn’t much you can do. Conservatives turned their backs on him. That’s all.

I see that the Paulian trolls are out today.

Let's not forget that in the 2008 election, the choice was Romney vs. McCain and Huckabee. Huckabee, as nice a fellow as he is, was hardly an economic conservative. The fact that McCain s*cked requires no further explanation here. At that time, given the choices, Mitt seemed the better choice. We all know Mitt better now, and he's had ample opportunities to come clean on his past mistakes, and he hasn't. If we want to ask ourselves which of the candidates is the closest to our ideal, who is most Reaganesque, the answer is clearly Santorum. He was an effective legislator, understands how to build coalitions, has a coherent guiding conservative philosophy, is strong on defense, families and life, recognizes that government must both shrink and prioritize and lives his values. Furthermore, Santorum understands what was wrong with Bush's "compassionate conservatism" and makes a point of showing how his strategy is very different. If you believe that he is Bush redux on this point, you're not listening to him very carefully.

“Cain was THE candidate, but we screwed it up. Newt is THE candidate, and people are going to Romney, a lying empty suit...

It’s totally sickening.”

Cain and Newt are fine, but I though Rick Perry was the best candidate we had, but apparently a solid, successful and mostly conservative 11 year governing record of the world’s 13th largest economy wasn’t good enough to be forgiven a few debate stumbles. You’re right, I’ve had a sickened feeling about this process for several weeks now.

Sorry, you do understand that no delegates are awarded today right? MN and CO are non-binding delegates which won’t be awarded until late March, early April. MO will not be awarding any delegates at all. We still have a LONG way to go.

Well then, bring it on.

I saw Palin (last night on Fox) almost threatening that Santorum is going to get his from Romney, just like Gingrich. That's the very nature of our political system, for better or for worse.

I still believe that if a candidate can articulate the right message and be credible in the process, he or she can deflect such attacks with little or no damage.

Both Gingrich and Santorum can articulate Conservative ideology. Thus far, credibility is the problem for Gingrich (with the electorate) while Santorum has yet to be tested.

I'm inclined to believe that Santorum’s credibility will be far more difficult to challenge. Time will tell.

OK, I am a little confused. Rick wasn't in any position to VOTE for TARP or the auto bailouts. He had been voted OUT OF THE SENATE. Don't you think it is a little “convenient” to say that he was against it now when he wasn't even around to “prove” it with a vote?

And I thought that South Carolina voted overwhelmingly for Newt?

You have to look at the details. Romney won in Florida ~ but if you simply deduct the Cuban-American vote from his total, he didn't

He also won in Nevada ~ but if you simply deduct the Mormon vote from his total, he didn't.

How many Cuban-American and Mormon voters are there in Colorado, Missouri, and Minnesota?

He's gonna' need them bad to win ~ or even come in second.
