When parent Jeff Travis saw a lesson sheet his son received in social studies class, he was shocked. Using propaganda that could have been disgorged by the KGB, the flier seemed to elevate communism over capitalism.
Distributed in Theodore Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa, the lesson sheet includes a cartoon (portion shown below) that purports to illustrate the differences between the two systems. In the left panel are two unhappy-looking workers with balls and chains tied to their ankles who toil away on one side of a machine while all the profit spills out the other side into a bag held by a smiling, stogie-smoking, portly business owner in a hat. It is labeled Capitalism In theory. In the right panel, communism is presented in theory with two smiling workers standing relaxed at the same machine while all the profit comes back their way.

“shocker”.... to whom?
What’s funny is, yeah, this IS how leftists see the two systems.
If the lesson was, basically, “this is your brain on liberalism”, it would be a true lesson.
“In theory”, ie, in LEFTIST theory. There has NEVER been an implementation of socialism or communism wherein the “profits flowed back to the workers”.
How many schools are wearing red pants? I fear there are a lot.
If they are attacking the messenger, then they are guilty. They know they can’t talk their way out of the facts. So they attack the person that called them out.
Yes they are communist. Don’t believe they are not other wise.
Say that again.
With leftists, it’s like a mental dog.
First they stick their nose in people’s butts, but then they their own noses in their own butts.
They love to micromanage and have communist interference in every thing, this so called perfect machine catheterized in your insides telling you what to do perfectly... in their own lala land self production.
Teach your children all about communism
Make ONE of them do all the work and offer to pay him/her.
Then take most of it away and give it to the siblings. And when they wail and complain, tell them THAT’S what is wrong with communism.
Of course, the ones who RECEIVE the money for doing nothing, will be happy - until next weekend when you make the same offer.
When the child who did all the work refuses to do it and get snookered again -and they end up with nothing, tell the others THAT’S ALSO whats wrong with communism.
That's why we know them as children and students. They should not be taught such since their reasoning ability is so limited. That makes such teachings indoctrination = brainwashing = child abuse. Just teach them the 3 R's and let them decide later when they have the capacity to work out the logic.
But then, as the saying goes, "If you're not a liberal in your 20's you have no heart. If you're not a conservative in your 40's you have no mind".
Teachers never have to make a payroll.
next weeks lesson: the purity of sharia law vs the corrupt oppression of common law.
The problem I have is the pictures are mislabeled. In capitalism, people receive in wages or profits the value of their own productive activity. If they don’t receive that, they are free to stop working for their employer or stop risking their capital investment. This is more like the slide mis-labeled “Communism.” In communism, all the value of productive activity goes to the state, and the state later decides who gets to have what in income, and what jobs they can have. If people don’t work, they’re shot. This is much more like the first slide mis-labeled “Capitalism.”
Guys, we can all be proud that the system worked. Alert parents, together with conservative local media, have exposed the pansy leftists at this high school.
So they blamed the radio station; big deal. The teacher and the principal will now crawl back into their cave and leave the students alone.
For those of you still outraged, don't forget ... homeschooling is always a wonderful alternative and it's free. We've done it, as have many of our friends, and the connection you get with your children is absolutely wonderful.
The commie sympathizers are free to spend their life in NoKo. And don’t ever let them come back.
Here’s the problem.
If my kid brought that kind of garbage home from school, I’d be at that school in a heartbeat. I’d want to talk to the teacher, and the principal. I’m a lifelong resident of my town, and I’d raise a stink with my councilman, friends and family. But, I’m a conservative, more or less, (by freeper purity standards, sometimes not).
Anyway, conservatives have done what we do best, taken care of the problem as it affects us. Most conservative kids are either home schooled or in parochial schools. The parents in this school system either agree, are too busy to notice, or don’t care. The net result is, more kids are taught that communism/socialism is a better way to go. And we get into a place where a Marxist like Obama is set to win a second term.
Now, there are some inaccuracies (not to mention grammatical and spelling errors) in the handout. Mostly, though, I see an overly simplistic depiction of the two systems. I'm not getting an OWS-type vibe here, honestly.

Lolz. I have family in eastern Europe, so... yeah.
It’s sad, really. We have Russian friends who ask me where we’re going, and I don’t have good news for them.
Key words: In Theory.
I would actually consider beginning a course on the difference between the two systems with such a comparison. I would then go on to show how the theories break down.
Marxists have spread the lie about ‘classless’ society from the beginning - never mind that all historical examples of Marxism have resulted in a reign of terror where tyrannical Party elites Lord over helpless serfs.
But, a lie can easily be made to appear more attractive than the truth.
Individuals well grounded in Judeo-Christian values see that the Marxist lies are too good to be true and that they are not supported by evidence. So Christians typically reject Marxist claims, (although Judaism seems more sympathetic - not sure why). Other values systems may also be able to compete with Marxist ideology.
But those who adhere to modern ‘secular’ values, (moral relativism, democratic values, evolving values, etc.), are very likey to embrace some form of Marxism in the end, (socialism, communism, Progessivism, etc.)
Even if I didn’t follow the risen Christ I would recognize that a society needs a strong, healthy system of values for a nation to survive. And even if I had no Christian allegiance I would reason that the viability of a given system may be judged by the outcome of the society/nation which practiced that system.
So I would notice the rise of western Europe and the US to world dominance, (culturally, morally, technologically, militarily, etc.) while they were emphatically Christian valued. I would compare this to the results of - say - Buddhist valued nations, or Marxist valued nations, or Islamic valued nations. And I would notice the decline of European dominance from the time those nations rejected Christianity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. And I would notice the decline of US dominance from the time we chose to secularize in the 1960’s and 1970’s. And I might very well conclude: “Christian valued nations are the most successful - we should endeavour to adopt Christian values!”
This demonstrable success of nations which practice Christianity as compared to those which follow other creeds is in fact one of the proofs which confirms my own Christian decision. I pray that we all return to Christ while there is still time.
Are you serious? I read it too, and it IS every bit as bad as they say. From the worksheet, as presented in the article:
Communism stands for equal sharing of the work according to the benefits and the ability, but in capitalism an individual is responsible for his works and if he wants to raise the ladder, he has to work hard . While the profit of any enterprise is equally shared by all in Communism, the profit in the capitalist structure belongs to the owner only. Moreover, communism stands for a class less [sic] society, which doesnt see any difference between the rich and the poor. On the other hand, capitalism divides the society into rich and poor. Capitalism can be said to be the exploitation of the individual. While every one [sic] is equal in communism, there is a great divide of the class in capitalism.
“Capitalism can be said to be the exploitation of the individual?” By whom?
As the author wrote:
In its defense, the school provides the complete handout (found here) on their website. Ive read it, and what is truly damning a testimonial as to how irredeemably biased these educators are is that they actually think it provides context. While there is the negative portrayal of economic freedom (capitalism is a communist term) in the aforementioned cartoon, there is no corresponding negative portrayal of communism. And, of course, presenting workers with balls and chains is not economic freedom In theory, as the worksheet states unless its a North Korean theory.
C’mon Dem, let’s get real.
