The White House struggled Wednesday to contain the growing uproar over its birth-control mandate, with Democrats peeling off one by one in what has become an increasingly divisive election-year controversy.
Still, one senior Democratic aide said the plan has put some lawmakers in an “awkward position.”
“A lot of Democrats just don’t want to talk about it and be in the position of defending it,” the aide said. “It’s horrible timing.”

He should have Pelosi speak about it some more.

Almost every article about this issue calls it a “birth control” issue. While it does concern birth control, it also is about abortion and the “morning after pill” which is abortion.

More appropriate title: Obama and his socialist minions refuse to refrain from trampling on Americans’ religious freedom in defiance of the Constitution.
I hope 0bama tries to defend this one for a while; he needs to not back down too quickly. Let those with torches and pitchforks gather, and let it be timed such that the rest don’t forget in November.
My fear is that this issue is like the football team that scores the go-ahead touchdown with 2:34 left to play. They leave too much time on the clock. I want to see 0bama cave with only 0:04 on the clock.

Oh, one other point. The whole concept of “waivers” granted by the Executive branch is completely incompatible with the Rule of Law. Just more proof that the constitution is a dead letter.
The notion that Obama can simply issue a “waiver” is almost as upsetting as the rule itself. What part of the balance of powers does this jerk not understand? Hussein cannot make law, and he cannot apply the law unevenly. The Affordable Healthcare Act is law, and Hussein is bound by it, or get the Congress to repeal the law. Better yet, repeal the law at the same time you ride his sorry butt out of town on a rail, covered with tar and feathers.
Yeah...like his edict that NASA is now to help the Arabs boost their "self esteem".....any GOP candidates on top of this....crickets
Obama passed this regulation to rally his base. He absolutely needs his base unified and enthusiastic if he hopes to win reelection. He cannot risk alienating his base by “backing down”. Yet if his internal polls are detecting some erosion of support due to this decision, it will be necessary to find a solution. Look for this “rule” once published to be brought before some accommodating federal judge. The judge will do Obama a huge service by declaring the rule “void” for some obscure reason. The base will be notified that the real “tragedy”would be if Obama loses the election. The Obama justice dept. will then not challenge the ruling. End result no back down, no rule , Catholics mollified, base intact,get on with the election.
It's NOT about "birth control." It never was.

While I agree with the last half of your statement, the real issue is one of freedom of conscience regarding religious objections - which brings us to the US Bill of Rights and that pesky Amendment #1.
Too bad that many citizens do not understand basic civics. Instead they are mostly concerned with getting something for free (contraceptives), &/or bashing the Catholic Church. Our society worships at the false god of sexual license.

I think this is calculated by the media. The HHS Abortifacient mandate is most definitely about killing new persons with unique DNA. They don’t want people to have this in the forefront of their minds.
Exactly, we should not be directing our wrath at the commie that ignorance elected.
