J.C. Penney CEO on Ellen DeGeneres controversy
CBS ^ | February 9, 2012 8:47 AM

Posted on 02/09/2012 6:56:53 AM PST by narses

(CBS News) J.C. Penney is trying to rebuild its customer base with help from a new spokeswoman, Ellen DeGeneres. But a group called One Million Moms is accusing the company of "jumping on the pro-gay bandwagon."

DeGeneres responded to the group on her TV show Wednesday, saying, "I'm happy about (being the spokesperson) J.C. Penney is happy about it. But there's this group called One Million Moms that is not happy about it. And normally I try not to pay attention to my haters, but this time I'd like to talk about it because my haters are my motivators. This organization doesn't think I should be the spokesperson because I am gay. So for those of you tuning in for the first time, I'm gay. I hope you were sitting down. ... So they wanted to get me fired, and I'm proud and happy to say that J.C. Penney stuck by their decision to make me their spokesperson."

In a statement last week, J.C. Penney said it stands behind its partnership the talk show host.

On "CBS This Morning," Thursday, J.C. Penney chief executive officer Ron Johnson, said the company "shares the same values" as DeGeneres and that the decision to have her as a spokesperson was a "no-brainer."

"We don't look at it like a controversy. One of the great things about America is people can speak their mind. And you know, the organization that believes one thing has spoken and it was great to see Ellen share her views yesterday. And we stand squarely behind Ellen as our spokesperson and that's a great thing. Because she shares the same values that we do in our company. Our company was founded 110 years ago on the golden rule, which is about treating people fair and square, just like you would like to be treated yourself. And we think Ellen represents the values of our company and the values that we share."

This always astounds me

We republicans and conservatives stand for traditional values and we still get some who harp on about they have no proble,m with the homo agenda, when they see people banned they then harp on about free speech on here

There is no frigging free speech on here, it even states on the site that this is not a place fro the homo agenda.

no wonder why we have the left advancing their agenda when we can’t even get some on a conservatives site standing for what they say they do stand for

The government cannot infringe upon a person's freedom of speech, but private groups and individuals aren't bound by it.

Fair enough.

Free Republic ALSO HAS AN AGENDA, so why are you and a bunch of trolls siding with the militant homosexuals who are trying to destroy Free Republic's agenda?

Troll?! Seriously wagglebee?!

Ya know what ... I'm done with this thread. I simply stated an opionion and now you, manc, and trisham are twisting the entire conversation beyond recognition. Have at it.

Well, isn't that special. Like a lot of head-in-the-sand "Christians," you don't seem to care how impressionable children and teens will be influenced by a major retailer's public endorsement of someone who practices distorted behavior.

Between Glee, Modern Family, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Happy Endings, MTV, etc, it is going to be JC Penney that influences Children and Teens behaviour? I doubt it, they are more likely to be influenced by the behaviour of adults who attack what appears to be an otherwise positive person for a single flaw. That is the behaviour that is associated with bullying which is a major problem with our youth.

If you go back and read what I wrote, you will see that I never said you were a troll.

Ellen...is active in provide [sic] cars, appliances, scholarships, financial assistance and a host of other forms of assistance to single moms, down on their luck families, childrens charities and families of the military....

Are you aware that Hezbollah and Hamas do a lot of charity work in order to further their agendas of furthering radical Islam, imposing shari'a law and recruiting jihadist terrorists? Does their charity make their agendas right?

Are you aware that George Soros does a lot of charity work in various nations before he moves in for the kill to destroy their currency and economy? Does his charity make his economic destruction right?

But who really cares, Ellen is gay, so Ellen is EVIL.

No one is saying that. We are saying that Penney's is promoting homosexuality as a positive value to the American families who heretofore have provided most of its profits, and we resent it. There's no hating in that, just resentment of being labled the "haters" because we do not want our children indoctrinated against the Christian value system we are trying to raise them with, and which, by the way, undergirded the writing of our Founding documents which have built the freedoms American has stood for until recently.

The Founders recognized the importance of the natural family and of traditional Judeo-Christian marriage in building a society that can support Republican freedoms. Homosexual promotion is a direct assault on the freedoms promised to a virtuous people. Now, virtue is "hate" and sin is politically correct.

Wow! What a post. Where do I begin???

Children & teens are certainly apt to be influenced by the ADULTS who are endorsing this “spokesperson” because her entire identity is associated with gay rights.

You can claim that she is an otherwise positive person with a single flaw, but we aren’t talking about a flaw as in she wears tacky clothes or has a big butt. SHE LIVES AN IMMORAL, SEXUALLY PERVERSE LIFESTYLE.

What’s with your pro-homo agenda? Have you not read Jim Rob’s statement that FR is a pro-life, pro-family forum??

Yep. I did the same thing to Target when the gays in its headquarters forced them to push the Salvation Army buckets away from their stores at Christmas time. Have only been back twice in 10 years -- to return gifts.

Scary how some can be taken in by Hollywood homosexuals, and those that promote and hire them. Their propaganda monopoly is powerful.

So as long as Ellen is “nice”, while promoting her sexual preferences and “nice” while calling these Mom’s HATERS, we can’t say anything lest we be called BULLIES.

Wow, upside down world we live in.

I doubt it, they are more likely to be influenced by the behaviour of adults who attack what appears to be an otherwise positive person for a single flaw. Now you are saying that because television (which parents have every right and duty to restrict) is pushing homosexuality to children, Penney's is exempt from criticism for doing the same? Isn't that "reasoning" a little circular?

Secondly, bullying goes on all the time among every group of people. I am a grown woman with a massive Celtic temper to keep a reign on, yet I have been bullied at work by another woman who must be blowing more than smoke in our boss's direction. "Bullying" is one of the sinister Trojan Horse code words that enable ass jockeys to fling guilt along with poo at decent people who do not want their children's safety to hinge on homosexuality. Plenty of straight kids get bullied, sometimes to the point of suicide, but that has never been a federally-funded campaign to endorse the teaching of sex mechanics in kindergarten like the ostensible gay bullying has been.

Further, these stats about gay kids committing suicide because of homophobia need to be examined more closely. Social maladjustment of all kinds tempts teens to commit suicide. Before the suicide, troubled youths often turn to various kinds of high-risk behaviors to try to self-medicate their depression with the adrenaline produced in their system when they push the boundaries. It is more likely that homosexuality is a symptom of coping with depression, than that suicide is a result of homophobia.
