Evangelical Leader: Jail Over Obamacare Mandate
OrthodoxNet (via LifeSiteNews) ^ | 2/9/2012 | Ben Johnson

One of the most influential evangelical leaders in the United States says Christians should go to jail rather than comply with the Obama administration’s mandate to provide all contraception, including abortion-inducing drugs, in their health care plans.

Dr. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), told LifeSiteNews.com “we will not comply” with the Dept. of Health and Human Services’ mandate requiring religious institutions to cover abortifacient products such as Plan B, Ella, and the IUD.

“We want the law changed, or else we’re going to write our letters from the Nashville jail, just like Dr. King wrote his from the Birmingham jail,” Dr. Land said.

It seems the pope should release at least a statement on this.

No, Cardinal-elect Dolan and his fellow Bishops are taking care of business now. If it should happen that the SCOTUS somehow approves of this travesty or the Bishops start to fold, then you will see something from the Pope. You can bet that Benedict XVI is watching this closely.

I am praying that this egregious act against Christians will indeed wake up millions of so-called believers who were somehow suckered into voting for a man who is, IMO, purely evil.

I agree that it will help, and am almost hoping that the Obama administration will keep fighting for this until the election is here to keep it front and center in the minds of the short-memoried American people.

The sh** has hit the fan, so to speak. They will never be able to put H-umpy-H-umty S-ibelius’s fiat back to respectability again with a straight face.

I agree.

“Dr. Land told LifeSiteNews he hopes Baptist ministers will “preach from the pulpit just how serious and dangerous this initiative by the Obama administration is,” and “encourage their parishioners to contact their congressmen and their senators and the president and let them know how deeply unhappy they are with this decision, and they want…legislation guaranteeing that it won’t happen again.””

The op-ed he co-authored came exactly one week after Dr. Albert Mohler, president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, said evangelical Christians may be required to face imprisonment over the issue. Dr. Mohler said in his daily podcast, “You at least have to admire the courage of the Roman Catholic bishops in saying they are willing to go to jail rather than to comply with this. How many evangelical presidents and pastors and leaders would be willing to do the same?”

There is no opt-out clause in our Republic.

People either start to participate in self-governance or somebody else (the left) will do it for them. Participate or Perish.

Its easy to forget that the Catholic Church pounded the living crap out the Soviet Union and Communism. Its easy for catholics to forget how anti communist the Catholic church was.

I remember watching reruns of Bishop Fulton Sheen about 10 years ago. Just amazing. I would suspect Ronald Reagan watched him every night, and helped form his opinions on Communism. My parents told me that people from all walks of life tuned in to watch this show because the guy just made so much sense. Most of all, I remember on the reruns, he ripped communism a new a-hole.

This from Wikpedia on Fulton Sheen:

For 20 years he hosted the night-time radio program The Catholic Hour (1930–1950) before moving to television and presenting Life Is Worth Living (1951–1957). Sheen's final presenting role was on the syndicated The Fulton Sheen Program (1961–1968) with a format very similar to that of the earlier Life is Worth Living show. For this work, Sheen won an Emmy Award for Most Outstanding Television Personality.

To wrap it up... it was inevitable that the Catholic Church would knock heads with a Communist leader. Communist dictators such as Obama can not tolerate any other authority. It is a Totalitarian political system. They dictate everything.

Time for Christians to wake up to the fact that the left is not just a bunch of misguided “lost”.

They are actively anti-Christ.

They want us eliminated, however that has to happen.

It’s a good thing for Christians (and ALL others concerned about religious freedom) to be able to see this for what it really is - not just an attack on Catholics, but indeed an attack on the very foundation of our country’s existence; Freedom of Religion.

Do you have a link to that info.? It would definitely be a good thing to have handy as a reference when spreading the word about this. [I will go look it up on Google when I have time later, just thought maybe you might have it handy. Thanks.]

Are Muslims really exempt? Because if they are that sounds like Religious discrimination to me right there. If the exemption is based on the fact that Muslims exclude all others that says a lot. You’re basically punishing the Catholics, Protestant’s and Jews that actually help each other and work together to help all people. Think about it— a nun tries to comfort an AIDS patient near death who isn’t Catholic and her church must violate it’s conscience. The Muslim who doesn’t care about that patient gets an exemption?

A stupid, stupid strategy, IMO, but we’ll see. The RCC is a large enough “congregation” to make or break a candidate. Now, there are plenty of Catholics who use birth control. There are plenty more who don’t agree with the doctrine on it. But they will ALL see this as an attack on the church, an attempt to turn the clock back to when the prejudice, ignorance, and hatred of the church were not even concealed. I think people see this as more of the same old marginalization. He’ll lose 90-10, and if you add Baptists to Catholics, you’re talking like 100 million citizens. To top it off, he’s put the USCCB in a corner. They CAN’T accede to this without becoming like the Catholics in Germany-collaborateurs without any credibility or power.

You can opt out if you are Amish or Mennonite, to name a couple pacifist groups.

Rick Warren? Better late than never I suppose, but how could he have supported Obama in the first place?

Rick Warren is a false teacher from the post-modern, emergent church movement and is involved with the abomination known as Chrislam.

Obambi just got the LCMS Lutherans and the Southern Baptists to line up with the Catholics. I never thought to see this in my life time! Deus Vaulte!

And we will march together again, or see each other in the catacombs.

Dr. Land is not black, therefore he can't quote King. Land must be a racist. (/sarc)
