Syria's military has begun stockpiling chemical weapons and equipping its soldiers with gas masks near the city of Homs, opposition sources reported on Thursday.

Opposition activists said they had received reports that the Syrian army had transferred a significant quantity of grenades and mortars containing chemical agents to a school building in Homs.

The Gulf CooperationCouncil ie) the Saudis. - want an other NATO led bombing campaign to impose “democracy”. Just as was done in Egypt and Libya.

Obama is inclined to install another Muslim Brotherhood Govt, which will immediately mean Christians are in trouble and Lebanon will face another civil war.

The USA corporate media will dutifully play along, putting it all of course, in ten most simplistic, emotional terms possible, to give Obama cover.

Agreed. If this was an Sub-Saharan nation, we wouldn’t care two whits about what was happening.

At least this distraction keeps them from plotting attacks against Israel.

This is fun to watch. If it wasn’t for the encouragement that the West has given the anarchists, Assad would have dealt conclusively with this ‘issue’ months ago, long before being forced to use chemicals.

There is a very strong possibility that Assad will use chemical weapons. He would do abosolutely everything in his arsenal to stay in power

According to a former top Bush administration official, Russian special forces teams moved weapons of mass destruction out of Iraq to Syria.

Does anyone have a photo or video of “Chemical Ali” taking the short drop?

What is interesting about Syria’s Chemical Weapons history that they first aquired chemical weapons from the Egyptians in 1973.In 1988, a U.S. analyst described Syria’s CW
capability as more advanced than that of Iraq, while noting
that the latter had a larger stockpile.Of course, they had that huge accident in 1997,when an explosion happened when Iranian and Syrian military personnel attempted to fit a Scud missile with a mustard gas warhead. My prediction will be when troops start carrying gas masks then the army will use chemical weapons.

However, the actual use of nerve or blister agents isn't out of the question when you consider the recent actions and the players involved.

Assad has been pretty restrained. Homs has a population density similar to NYC's - 40K to 60K per square mile. If Assad had been firing hundreds of arty rounds into Homs (with its block after block of apartment buildings) on a daily basis, the body count would have been in the hundreds per day, instead of the highly dubious (given the tendency of Sunnis to exaggerate when it suits their purposes) 60 recently. When Assad pere put down the Muslim Brotherhood revolt in Hama in the 80's, the daily body count was 300-900 people dead, with tanks and artillery demolishing whole sections of the city.

And the opposition forces wouldn’t lie to to get our help, and once we helped them get rid of Assad, turn around and spit in our faces, now would they? sarc/ Doesn’t matter who wins, it will be bad. If the opposition wins, it will just be a new dictatorship replacing the old one.

In order for chemical weapons to be effective is the correct dispersal pattern or dissemination, and the effectiveness of delivery. The best way to deliver chemical weapons is through spray tanks by low flying aircraft but the pilot might have to be wearing gear. Also weather plays a factor.Wind, temperature, humidity, precipitation, terrain contours, and surface cover influence the field behavior of vapors and aerosols.

When you consider the weapons mentioned are mortars and grenades, it seems less likely they’d be deadly chemicals. Why use close proximity WMDs and risk yourself if you don’t have to? If they wanted to, the regime could just use air strikes or long range artillery to deploy the munitions.

You nailed it. The Islamist opposition to Assad has already announced that they intend to slaughter him, his wife, and his children. Frankly, were I in his shoes, my response to that would be far more oppressive than his is now.

As to whether Assad will fall, that pretty much depends on whether he retains the support of his Iranian handlers. If they continue to prop him up, they will so inform Imam Obama, and Imam Obama will keep the West at bay.

Simply put: the Iranian mullahs and Imam Obama are fellow tribesmen. So far, they have succeeded magnificently in bringing down the Mid East governments most friendly to the US. They will not stop until the Iranian takeover is complete.
