Perry: Newt Is Best Conservative to Beat Obama
Newsmax ^ | 2-9-12 | Myers/Walters

Posted on 02/09/2012 3:31:30 PM PST by VinL

Texas Governor and former presidential candidate Rick Perry tells Newsmax that Newt Gingrich is the most capable Republican still in the race and the right conservative to go to Washington and “make it as inconsequential as he can.”...

“I’ve endorsed Newt, so I hope that has some impact. We’re looking for the most conservative candidate. Texans by and large are a conservative lot,” he says.

“But any of our candidates are going to be better than Obama. My goal is to send the most conservative person to Washington D.C., that understands how to balance the budget, and Newt Gingrich has done that.

“I think Newt by any measure, from the standpoint of fiscal conservatism, being able to actually operate in that shark tank in Washington, is the most capable individual. He’s balanced a number of budgets before.

“Mitt’s been a very successful businessman, but the idea that you can transform your experiences as a private sector businessman into working in Washington doesn’t necessarily translate.

“I know for a fact that Newt knows how to work there. He is committed to blowing the place up, from a figurative standpoint, and to really put policies into place tax-wise, regulatory-wise.”

Perry says Gingrich is also a “big believer” in the Tenth Amendment, which provides that powers not granted to the federal government nor prohibited to the states by the Constitution should belong to the states or the people.

“You don’t see any of the other candidates out there talking about the Tenth Amendment and empowering the states and devolving power out of Washington, except Newt Gingrich.”

Perry says Gingrich is also the candidate with the best chance of defeating President Obama in November.

On your profile page you are ‘pro’ a lot of good things, and you are ‘anti’ a lot of bad things...... But, somewhere along the way you forgot about paraphrasing things in a way that’s not ‘quite right’ and applying them to people.

[I guess according to both Perry and Newt I’m ‘heartless’ and ‘inhumane’ for opposing illegals.]

Rick Perry did not say people were heartless and inhumane for opposing illegals. He tried to get Obama’s help to stop them. Here is his quote;

“If you say that we should not educate children who have come into our state for no other reason than they’ve been brought there by no fault of their own, I don’t think you have a heart.”

Please tell me WHO, among our candidates, has the heart to remove them all?

Perry did not do well in the first debates

:(

Perry was the only one who spoke the flat out truth on every issue. It just goes to show that many people are just not used to the truth from politicians. It was too great a shock.

He’s just pimping for the VP slot.

No, he has a better job than VP right there in Texas.

I don’t want to say that Romney has a more conservative position on illegals than the other guys.

The way to beat Romney is to be more conservative and not attack him from the left. Romney already represents the left and if someone wants a liberal, they will vote for the real thing. In fact, anyone who wants to be easy on illegals will end up voting for Obama.

Romney has been thought by some to have the GOP nomination wrapped up, but Perry believes Rick Santorum, the big winner in Tuesday’s primaries and caucuses, “absolutely” could steal the nomination.

Steal it Rick steal it. lol.

[Perry did not do well in the first debates]

He made blunders in the first few but I think he's used to being blunt and people don't like bluntness. We also weren't aware that he had just had serious back surgery and was wearing a back brace while he stood for two hours! He may have used pain killers, we don't know.

I remember people making fun of how he stood and ‘why does his chest stick out’ and ‘his suit is ill fitting’. But we weren't aware of the back brace.

I watched every single debate and Perry was GREAT in the last three. He was even declared the winner in a couple of them on the cable talk shows.....but no one remarked on that.

And yes, Perry always spoke the flat out truth, and in the end we lost a really good man.

[anyone who wants to be easy on illegals will end up voting for Obama.]

For sure, and I never hear much said about the 80 thousand ‘probable’ muslims that Obama said he was immigrating into the U.S. in 2011. Wonder if they all have jobs...!

No, I didn’t hear any really good solutions about the illegals during the debates, a lot of talk about ‘grandparents’ and ‘self deportation’. Can’t recall Santorum’s plan though.

Perry would make a great Secretary of Defense or Director
of Homeland Security.

I thought Perry was very good, and you have a point, maybe he was doing the whole thing in a sort of dutiful way. I don’t see him as being a VP for Romney, though, because I don’t think he’d agree with Romney on much of anything and having him as VP wouldn’t get Romney many votes.

Actually, I can’t think of a VP candidate who’d get Romney many votes...conservatives voted for McCain only because they were voting for Palin, but that didn’t work, and I don’t think people would do it again.

I hope Perry gets out there seriously. I’m not sure he’ll ever be president (mostly because I’m not sure he wants to be) but I think he will definitely be important at a national level.

People keep talking about him in economic terms, which I think is fine, but I don’t think he really sees himself solely in those terms. Why not something like Secy of Defense?

Well, Newt has already formed this new chairmanship for Perry at his American Solutions think tank, or whatever that is... it is about the 10th amendment, which supposedly Perry is absolutely passionate about. He - Perry - is going to lead and guide it - in a Gingrich admin or otherwise.

I think if Perry got a taste of DC as VP, in 8 years, he would be almost 60, and more settled and maybe even thinking about his legacy, and really doing something meaningful in his later years to impact the country. You know, the sad thing is, I think he would have shaken up DC as much as Newt will... he supposedly has a few tinges of Texas corruption, but nothing major...

You’re uninformed as regards to Perry. You can be the judge as to whether you’re heartless or not.

Oh, no. Perry is the one with the likeable factor. He would be a good softening agent for Newt because he has the charisma and downhome charm that Newt lacks.

By the way, I thought once Perry dropped out, we could dispose of the lies and insults about his border position and his position on illegals. Guess the uninformed who jumped on those lies can’t give them up.

“Newt Is Best Conservative to Beat Obama”.

Even if Newt was/is NOT the best, he has a conservative backbone which many of the other repub candidates do not have. I loath that POS president we currently have and truely hope someone will come along and defeat him. I sure as he ll will vote against him.

Me either. I am not a Perry hater. He is just dumb. I like a lot of dumb people. I would probably like you if I knew you.

Anyway, I am supporting Santorum. I like a lot of Newt's stuff but he is and has been damaged goods for years and no amount of whitewash will change that or make him president. If Perry was still in and Santorum out, I would vote for Perry over Newt or Mitt. I will vote for Newt over Mitt if Santorum drops out.

However, Mitt nor Gingrich have a chance in the General if they get past the primary. Only Santorum or (I hate to admit it) Ron Paul could win in November. And I can't stand Paul.

Newt because he is damaged goods with all the stuff from the last two wife's (you can stat the no he isn't, yes he is thing but it won't change the fact that most voters won't vote for him in the general election.

And Mitt is unelectable because he is like Dole or McCain. There is not enough difference between him and the democrat to get people to the polls and seal the deal.
