There will likely be an economic boom in the region, since the infrastructure will be all new. Like when we rebuild an enemy state after a war.

You are right. The VICTIMS of Katrina perceived the evil white republicans were holding them back. The rest of us just cleaned up the sh*t and moved on. Much like the Japs.

They probably added 10% to the land area of Japan by landfilling all the debris! I’ve seen a map showing how much land has been reclaimed in Tokyo harbor in the past 50 years or so and it’s amazing.

Now if they could just get to where things didn’t glow in the dark...

Someone needs to post a KATRINA 11 months after picture, for contrast...

It depends on what area you are looking at. Rural Mississippi was actually hit harder than New Orleans, hardly received any federal assistance (compared to New Orleans), and was still cleaned up and back to somewhat normal long before New Orleans.

Here are some before and after photos of the recovery efforts in Mississippi.

Various government programs have been set up for waste disposal, but most of it was simply handled at the local level, by local citizens, pulling on their gloves and getting down to work.

Wood was sorted and stacked, metals were separated, vehicles were pulled into huge lots where they identified, their owners or heirs were contacted, etc.

Lots of the wood debris was pulverized for use as fuel in local projects aimed at producing hot water for both warmth and bathing.

Many more land reclamation projects have been delayed because the owners and heirs cannot be located, and there are laws governing property disposal in those situations, but things will be picking up smartly once the required waiting periods are past.

None of this surprises me. It’s simply not the Japanese way to sit back and wait for people to do things for you. Everyone is expected to do what they can to fix things themselves.

“Can we bring these guys over to work on Detroit?”

It will look like Detroit again a few months after they’re back in Japan.

The other thing is that tsunamis have happened so often in their history, the Japanese culture is more or less genetically ‘programmed” on how to deal with natural disasters on the individual level.

New Orleans was a special basket case. The rest of America’s coastal people who have been struck by hurricanes do not waste time wallowing in the aftermath of muck and politicals of race baiting victimhood. I’m glad for Japan.

They are all Japanese. That is their strength. There was a time when we were all Americans. But, sadly, no more. And we are the worse for it. If we had another WWII, we would lose.

There was a time, long past, when the American spirit thrived and recoveries like this would have been possible.

Long past...

Here in America, the permanent “victims” of a natural disaster would be lounging around drunk in their stinking, trashed-up FEMA trailers yelping for more free taxpayer money to be added to their debit cards.

“A stark contrast to our Katrina.”

Yup, thanks to perverted plantation Democrats and the entitlement mentality of the perpetual “victims” and welfare scum who think the Government needs to wipe their butts for them.

Losers, all of them.

And therein lies the difference. The Japanese will band together to emerge stronger. If 9-11 had happened in Tokyo, the Twin Towers would`ve been rebuilt and functioning within two years. America...can`t.
