DAWSON CITY, Yukon - There are a lot of problems that can befall trail markers treacherous conditions, dangerous overflow, deep snow and trails littered with fallen brush.
But an unexpected challenge for the Canadian Rangers who broke the Yukon Quest trail in Canada? Wolves stealing trail markers.

Love Alaska. Not for me. Been there, done that, got the wrist band from the hospital. I'll stick with cactus and rattlesnakes (pun intended). At least I know the steps to deal with those threats. ;)

Canines will be canines.
When my Weimaraner, now 5 years old, was about a year and a half old, he took a brief, unauthorized trip around the neighborhood, and returned with a “gift” for me: a survey stake, orange survey tape still attached, which he had pulled out of the ground from the lot next door, where construction of a house was soon to begin. I’m guessing the surveyors and contractors were none too happy, as they likely had to resurvey a couple of points.
Every time our Blue Heeler gets out, she comes back with ‘treasures’ she neatly organizes in the mud room where she sleeps. The last one was someone’s garden gnome.
Nah - I’m sure they “eye-ball’em(sic) em in” Navy vets will understand what I’m referring to most likely.
Because of hospitalization, other commitments, etc. I have been prevented from going to Alaska on several trips with family, friends, colleagues, etc.
When they got back from their trips and showed their videos it seemed like there never was a full-sunshine bright sunny day. Many days were almost totally overcast, or had just a hint of sunshine, but never a bright cheerful sunny day. It often looked windy and drizzly, too. I noticed the same thing last summer in the “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” series she did. It struck me as being very depressing.
That dreary stuff does not tempt me at all.
That was just a lie spread by his enemies. We now know that George W. Bush was removing the markers.
Are they making the trail markers out of bacon?

when the wolves start taking the markers, and rearrangeing them to point to their lairs....then we are in serious trouble!!!
why on earth would you ever allow your dog to violate someone else's property????? I love dogs and cats, but ONLY when they are properly supervised, and that does not mean when they are walked to do their thing on someone else's land. That's what a .22 with a scope is for.
Scientists now class the wolf and the domestic dog as the same species. (The same has not been done for the domestic cat and any wild species. So cats are special. Nyaa.) Seems logical enough that anything that might be subject to dog mischief, would be subject to wolf mischief.
If Gracchus was using paper/papyrus as part of the marker, he was asking for it. Dogs/wolves usually don’t bother stones, however.
This WAS summertime......that’s why I was so disappointed to see the constant dreary weather. Land of the Midnight Sun? Land of the Midnight Mostly Overcast might be more accurate.
I WISH I could see evidence that I’m WRONG. I’m intrigued by the THOUGHT of Alaska. I even memorized several poems by Robert Service about the Yukon and Alaska, and the Gold Rush. I checked into Real Estate For Sale in Wasilla. But the pix I saw of the WEATHER did NOT charm me at all.
The sweet little girl and the mess of fish are very nice....but.....please forgive me..... the sun doesn’t look bright enough to even cast much of a shadow.
In the 2009 move "The Proposal" there was a scene in which the family (living in Alaska) had heavy shades on the windows of the house especially around the bedroom. This was so they could still get a decent night's sleep during those endless sunny summer nights.
Mebbe a sequel to Stephen King’s “Pet Semetary”?
The sun seems to be way over on the left based on the hill shadows. Her own shadow mostly falls on that lake water.
Yes. You’re right. I remember that scene........and I honestly don’t remember another bright sunny scene in the whole movie. Sandy Bullock lit up the screen, though. ;o)
Easily resolved with metal or concrete marker.
