Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, following his wins last week in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri, has now jumped ahead of Mitt Romney in Michigan's Republican Primary race.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters in Michigan shows Santorum with 35% of the vote to Romney’s 32%. Well behind are Texas Congressman Ron Paul with 13% and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich with 11%. Only one percent (1%) prefers some other candidate in the race, while eight percent (8%) are undecided.

Strike out “Santorum” and replace with “Gingrich” and your post makes perfect sense. And it ended his “Second Coming.” I don’t think he’ll get a third chance.
I don't know if Rick can beat Obama ...it will depend on how he matures between now and the election and whether his “right to life” stance will be too rigid to gain enough of the moderate vote.
Newt is the venerable warrior who has the best experience and talent to beat Obama and the Dem Machine and the vision required to get this Republic out of the mess we are in. That said, as we all know, he has a lot of baggage and high “negatives.”
Romney will depress the base and will have great difficulty arguing against Obamcare given his historic authorship of Romneycare ...and then there is the question of whether he would really abolish Obamacare if he should be elected.
Given all of the above; I am still backing Newt; but, will accept Rick if he wins the nomination and picks a decent Conservative for VeeP.

jay Leno and David Letterman have been trashing first Bachmann, then Cain, and lately Romney and Newt. There was something similar in their slurs, often repeating the same ones. Yesterday, Bill O'Reilly had a segment on how Soros funded Media Matters provides talking points to NBC, MSNBC, and others. Thus, possibly Leno and Letterman get their attacks on Newt and Romney from MM.
Will Santorum be the next one to be trashed by Leno & Letterman whose attacks on GOP candidates so far have been predictable, similar, repetitious, and unfair. Of course, nothing similar about Obama, nothing about the clown Eric Holder.
Pa flipped to Republican in 2010, and it looks like the coattails of that are running into Ohio, so see Rick pick up Pa and Ohio... Obama can’t win without those 2 states.
The combined totals of those two will beat Romney's total.
Then there will be great hope to have a much more conservative candidate represent the GOP this fall.
If tht is so, and if we can do our part and turn out in overwhelming numbers to defeat Obama ala 2010...we will have great hope of turning things around in our nation.

I read the polls; I see what happened in 2008. I can see with plain vision that people can’t stand Newt, that they want their birth control, that they are manipulated easily by statistics (”look! unemployment is dropping!”); I can see that Romney won’t get the base (including about 99% of free republic).
I also see what obama is doing on pretty much a daily basis. I see that no one is storming DC to protest the blatantly unconstitutional ‘recess appointments’ that he made. I see that he is going to get away with whatever he can, and that we, collectively, are not really willing to stand up to him.
I think there’s plenty of reason to fear his re-election.
If you don’t see that, then you are simply naive. Maybe you need to get off the bottle a little bit.

The majority of Catholics voted obama last time....so I am skeptical. But obama may have gone too far in his recent actions.
let him try to attack Santorum and it will backfire and destroy what's left of his campaign.
Romney is going to have to sell himself this time or he could possibly argue that Santorum is too far right to win the general, but both of those are a far cry to what he did with everyone else in the race.

Indeed. Santorum is a social conservative who is morally serious about issues like casual sex? Big whoop - if the Repubs are going to take flack, it might as well be for standing for something.
And yes, I know, Santorum is far from perfect in some respects, I.e. his big-government tendencies. But at least there isn´t any pictures of him making out with Nancy P. in a couch. On television. While pushing “action against Global Warming”. Time to rally behind Santorum. Romney won´t take him down easily.
Santorum pretends to be the only person on the planet with a moral compass. Mine works just fine.
I’m hoping to vote for Speaker Gingrich. If not, a “Palin” write-in is fine.

Bump THAT!! Did you read the Red State article listing Santorum’s big-government votes? If Santorum had run in 2010 instead of 2006, the tea party would have primaried him. He’s no fiscal conservative. He doesn’t understand the concept of individual liberty. He’s totally fine with legislating his values upon everyone else. (Yes, I am a Christian. Yes, I am a social conservative.)

Anyone who rejects Santorum because he is ‘too’ conservative will go to Romney, not Newt.

The difference is that Santorum is also defending fiscal conservative values while Romney is proud of his Romneycare and Newt likes to talk about his Moondoggle and how it is ‘inhumane’ to be for capitalism and controlling the border. Santorum was the one who went after Romneycare while Newt was trying to win over the Occupy vote.
