Whitney Houston will be laid to rest after a private, invitation-only funeral at her childhood New Jersey church, instead of a public memorial at a Newark arena.

The 18,000-seat Prudential Center had been planned as a setting for a public memorial, but the family decided overnight to keep services private, a source confirmed to NBC New York on Tuesday.

"Whitney has shared her entire life with the public. This is her final farewell. Let her family share that time with her," said Carolyn Whigham, owner of the funeral home handling the arrangements.

The private funeral will be held Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church, where Houston got her start singing in the choir, according to Whigham.

Good. It would have turned in to a damned fiasco, with Al Sharpton leading the way.

Bobby Browns career took a dive so he decided to take Whitney with him. Sad all the way around.

Good decision.

There have been too many comparisons to Michael Jackson already.

with Al Sharpton leading the way.

Al and Blowprah have been all over this deal but I've yet to see the third member of the axis of race baiting, Jesse Jackson.

Is his private jet in for maintenance?

Finally some sanity!! It would have been a black Paul Wellstone type of funeral.

Well, I put this on Whitney herself....she could have quit a long time ago and apparently she admitted to doing cocaine before she met BB. Unfortunately she was an addict.

Very sad.

“Whitney has shared her entire life with the public. This is her final farewell. Let her family share that time with her,”

I must say I cannot disagree with that sentiment

Actually I’ve heard two different personal friends state that she was well into drugs before ever meeting Bobby Brown.

Before the ahole FReepers come in here and start crapping all over this thread:

Whitney Houston performed the national anthem for superbowl 1991. Proceeds were donated to the Desert Storm wounded.

Because of the overwhelming response to the National Anthem, her record company released it on a single and those proceeds went to First Responders, Fire Fighters etc.

Some of the comments on here have been absolutely repulsive regarding her. No class what-so-ever but then again....times are a changin’.

For anyone interested, she was a born again Christian.

Satan got her here...but she’s with Christ now.

RIP
