The “Little Ice Age”, roughly from 1350 t0 the mid 1800’s, plunged Europe and Asia into such a deep freeze, causing widespread deaths - up to 900 million - but, other than a cold year after a catastrophic volcanic eruption, like Krakatoa, North America evidently didn’t get it - Indeed, in the winter of 1620/21, The Pilgrim’s first one in the new land, only had a few snowfalls - the deepest no more than a foot. (And when my great and great great grandparents were carving their farms out in the Main woods in the late 1700’s, early 1800’s, they weren’t hampered with the catastrophic conditions of Europe/Asia.)

If, indeed, the earth is doing a little ‘reset’, resulting in the north pole shifting and turning the Europe/Asia side a bit further north along with it, then that would result in our half of the globe shifting a bit further south - the equator a bit closer to us.

I’m okay with that. ;o) - but I worry about the goracle gang. They’re probably already devising a way to blame the shift on us and tax us for ti.

Gadz! That cold snap brings back memories of the winter of '85 in Germany. I was stationed near Grafenwohr, and we were informed that the Siberian Express was coming through. Well, our Commander decided that it was a great opportunity for his troops to get some Arctic training, and sent us to the local training area. We sat out there for a week, freezing in those iceboxes we called "armored vehicles". One by one, the vehicle heaters gave up the ghost. When the mermited food arrived, it was frozen, even the coffee. By the end of the week, we had 1 vehicle that was still operational and we were all packed in the thing, trying to stay warm. Even then, you got so cold that your bones hurt.

Oh yeah, the commander never left the post. He stayed in his comfy digs until it was all over.

When my MLRS unit did the wintertime Graf we had GP tents and Yukon stoves. Our tents had liners and we mixed the Yukon fuel 50-50 mogas-JP8. We didn’t get extreme temperatures but with the Yukon glowing it was down right toasty in the tent. I always tried to have hot cocoa and coffee on the Yukon for my soldiers.

We were lucky that our command was in the field with us and our equipment had many hydraulic seals which wouldn’t do well in low temps. If the equipment was run below 20 degrees the vehicle would deadline post haste. Rather than freeze our backsides off in broken equipment we’d drink hot cocoa and coffee in our tents and wait for it to warm up.

Just sayin....

"The planet has a fever."

He wasn't talkin' about "Climate Change." He meant "Global warming."

Maybe they'll take back his Nobel Prize and burn it for heat.

“ANY change in the weather is a result of made-made CO2 emissions.”

That’s right; after they’d had enough cold spells make them look stupid, they moved the goalposts.

This is normal, I will say this... Canadian infantry, normal operations heh.

Some Southern folk come up to train once in a while, and it’s always amusing to watch them try to cope on a winter warfare course, or just a winter ex.

I can deal with extreme heat but not cold. Prolonged cold spells, while you can manage to stay warm will drag you down mentally.

I can still see the pictures from a recent post about our soldiers who fought in Europe during WW-II in the winter time........horrible conditions

“Extreme cold brings out in the snow the women with some the largest thighs and rear-ends ever photographed. “

If they are really snowboarders, and not just models, one would expect those muscles to be better developed.

Look carefully, and you'll notice the same phenomena for skiers and ice skaters.

Boy, that Global Warming is really something.

I couldn't find it quickly, but I saw an article in the past month where someone blamed the cold European weather on the melted Arctic icepack... which is of course caused by global warming.

The truth is that most people don't understand the difference between climate and weather. Weather has always experienced extremes, and will continue to do so. Climate change is a much more gradual thing, and it has been going on since long before our ancestors learned to walk upright.

Apparently, you haven't experienced a Texas-style summer.

ANY change in the weather is a result of made-made CO2 emissions.

Atmospheric CO2 levels are at dangerously low levels, it's amazing we have any plant growth at all.

When I was there in ‘69 it was not an unusual winter.

Still, our tracks (M113 with Chrysler gasoline engine)
would not start reliably in the morning. Only by spraying ether into the air cleaner intake could we get them to
start.

We would have had to leave em in the motorpool if the Russians came.
