Lets break out the crying towel for the success of this administration in dividing Americans against each other, denigrating what they do and their motives for doing it, and stirring hostility against yet another group of FELLOW AMERICANS (federal employees) as if they were all unworthy slugs taking from everyone else and contributing nothing

As the wife of a federal employee whose work is devoted to critical national security issues, I am disgusted at the hateful comments. And yes, given what is going on in DC his morale is pretty low but he still suits up and goes in everyday or gets on that airplane every week (many weekends) and does his best for this country and our family - in that order

1). If I knew my job was meaningless and a waste of tax payer money, I would have low moral, too.

2). I honestly don’t care about their moral. They are sucking the life blood out of our nation. They are paid higher than the average none government worker who actually generates the money to pay their extravagant salaries and benefits.

just the fact that there is an actual radio station in DC devoted entirely to Federal employees whining about their concerns tells you all you need to know.

I used to be a government employee

Not many private company managers would hire a former government hireling, especially in this economy. They are damaged goods. The longer and more recent the government employment, the lower the odds they could ever get out.

Apparently its a private station that is formatted to cater to the local audience of federal employees owned by Hubbard Broadcasting. ( callsign WFED)

From the chart it appears that about 50% of federal employees (managers and others) have a serious attitude problem. Fire the bums. I get tired of interacting with government employees who act like I am bothering them. Do your job and shut up. You are paid more than most, have benefits better than most and have retirement plans better than most. Shut up.

All gov’t employees are tax-users, even if they pay personal taxes. Their entire income is sucked from the private sector.

I retired from the government in 1997 after 33 years federal service; I also had four years active duty in the military. A lot of those years were spent overseas, in a lot of pretty undesirable posts, and put in quite a lot of uncompensated overtime. My daughter, who works for my former employer, is on her third deployment to Bagram Air Field. Not all federal employees sit at their desks, doing their nails or playing solitaire.

They can always come join us at-will employees in the private sector! Of course, morale isn’t much better out here either, mostly because of them....

Not all federal employees sit at their desks, doing their nails or playing solitaire.

But an extremely significant number are.

That's the issue.

It was meant as more of a rhetorical question - why the hell is this needed? If you go to the website, it contains information that is available from hundreds of other outlets, as well as the HR portion of every departmental website that any federal employee works for.

Insanity

I became quite well-known (in a good way) in my field. I had been solicited by multiple private corporations before making the jump to private consulting.

But you are right — it is rare.

I’ve worked in private sector ...I have worked Federal.

I worked for a private organization that made the Federal government look like a model of efficiency ...but the private organization could not sustain itself (virtue of free market!!!) - and got bought out and it was streamlined and downsized and fixed to become more competitive.

I have seen parts of the Fed work force that work hard and earn every penny they get paid ...while other areas could be totally abolished and no one would notice its absense (except for the overpaid and underworked employees there.)

In the Washington, DC area (the belly of the best) - the working level is WAY HIGH ....some GS-13’s and -14’s doing jobs that elsewhere in the country, would be a GS-9 or GS-11. BLOATED and INEFFICIENT!!

And management tends to be typical Dilbert-type - never make a decision until there is total consensus (to avoid possibly making a bad choice) ...so it can take YEARS to make productive/beneficial changes. I work at a Naval Shipyard - and am frustrated when I see it take 5 - 7 years to make simple changes that are logical & rational “good engineering” -because it takes that long to get “consensus”. I repeatedly tell my boss ...”If it is good engineering, it doesn’t need consensus, and consensus doesn’t necessarily mean it is good engineering.” I am told that I need to be a better “salesman” to convince others of my point (as opposed to being a very good engineer??) It is frustrating.

But - I do agree that we should down-size the FED. No Dept. of Education, no Dept. of Energy, HHS, Commerce. Make the other departments that are retained more efficient.

BUT - at least the FED saw the high costs of retirement (CSRS) and in 1984, went to a lower cost retirement system, unlike many state and local governments that have much more “golden” - highly expensive retirement programs. (But - if there are many millions of Federal workers, the volume, even if cheaper, can still be a big cost!!)
