Mars [Obama] puts Snickers bars on a diet
CNN ^ | February 16th, 2012 | Jacque Wilson

...Worry no more - Mars, Inc. is going taking that decision out of your hands. The company that produces M&Ms, 3 Musketeers, Snickers and Twix bars has vowed to stop shipping any Mars chocolate products that exceed 250 calories per portion by the end of 2013.

Right now a regular Snickers bar has 280 calories and each Twix cookie bar has 130 calories.

Mars will most likely stop producing its king-sized candy bars all together since the large Snickers bar weighs in at 510 calories.

"We have a responsibility to help our consumers and the pets they love lead healthy lives," Mars said in a statement on its website. "We are committed to making sure the products we offer, and the ingredients they contain, can fit into a balanced diet."

Mars also produces Dove chocolate bars, multiple kinds of pet food, several gum brands and Uncle Ben's rice products.

This move is part of an agreement Mars signed with Michelle Obama's Partnership for a Healthier America. Mars is part of the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, a group of 16 manufacturers who have pledged to reduce 1.5 trillion calories by the end of 2015 through lower-calorie options and reducing portion sizes...

Mars' statement goes on to note that the company has removed 97% of the trans fat in their chocolate products and plans to "reduce sodium levels in all Mars Food products globally by 25 percent by 2015."

Mars has not addressed the total number of fat grams in each product or the amount of sugar - factors most experts agree play a big role in weight gain, especially for children.

You can check out the nutrition info for Mars' products at www.marshealthyliving.com.

Agree - candy, coffee, ice cream - all the sizes started shrinking long ago.

A long time ago. From Mad Magazine in the 1960s:

It's like dried pasta going from 16oz to 12oz per package.

It's gotten to the point recipes need to be rewritten.
You can pretty much toss any recipe that calls for 1 can, 1 pkg. etc.

Bet the new Mars candy bar will come in the same size wrapper.
When you shake it, it'll rattle.

Just wait until Moochelle gets her meathooks into the Armenians at the "Grand Candy Factory" who crafted this chocolate bar. It won't be a pretty sight...

"This is a red hearing."

If only it were so. We definitely need to restore HUAC! They could start in the White House.

Simple solution would be to change the serving size to 6. Truth be told, it's not about calories but Mars is using this as a "feel good" angle to reduce the size and raise the price just like other companies have done with smaller sized toilet paper rolls, etc.

And who’s to stop anybody from simply buying two bars to make up for the smaller one?

Please don't tip off the Fed's on this! Once they get wise to your plan, candy bars will have to be registered. And there will be a strict one-a-day maximum purchase rule.

And there will be a BCSI (Bureau of Candy, Soda, and Ice Cream) to enforce the tangled mess of candy-related rules. Naturally, the BCSI agents will be armed and have arrest powers.

Here’s an idea Mars—close your company. That way you’re not producing “poison” any more. Maybe Mooshell will hire all your employees.

Packages of food that we buy are the same price, but the quantity inside is less than it used to be.

Obamasized.

Yeah, I mean that is a big “DUH” right there. Most people with any brain already buy two little ones rather than the king size, since the unit price usually works out to be cheaper. King size is just a marketing gimmick to sell 1.8 times the product for 2 times the price.

Interesting with the smaller bars. You do tend to eat more. Buy a bag....eat a bag. It’s all about volume.

It’s the same as many other products that have shrunk over the past few years: less produce, same price.

They replaced the Mercury dime with the Roosevelt dime and removed the fasces, the ancient Roman symbol of unity, just because it had been used by Mussolini. Then in 1965 Lyndon Johnson took away the silver content and replaced it with the “Great Society Alloy” (cupronickel).

Anyway, candy bars have been shrinking for decades but this is the first time it’s being done for PC reasons.

Sounds like a deliberate kickback to Mars to boost sales for that very reason.

How much $$ did Mars give to the Hussein campaign?
