On Friday's Mark Levin Show: Mark defends Rick Santorum’s stance on income inequality in America. Democrats want everyone on the same level so that they will have more control over them. They believe that liberty is immoral unless it brings about equality, not realizing that there always has and always will be income inequality. The conservative wants to create rights and individuality using a vibrant and vigorous economy that creates more opportunity.

Santorum simply told the truth. There will always be rich and poor people and the rich give the poor something to strive for.

I personally don’t care if people like that reality or not. Its just the way it is and if they can’t handle that, then they shouldn’t be voting anyway.

By equality, in a democracy, is to be understood, equality of civil rights, and not of condition. Equality of rights necessarily produces inequality of possessions; because, by the laws of nature and of equality, every man has a right to use his faculties, in an honest way, and the fruits of his labour, thus acquired, are his own.
But, some men have more strength than others; some more health; some more industry; and some more skill and ingenuity, than others; and according to these, and other circumstances the products of their labour must be various, and their property must become unequal.
The rights of property must be sacred, and must be protected; otherwise there could be no exertion of either ingenuity or industry, and consequently nothing but extreme poverty, misery, and brutal ignorance.

If government confiscated all the money and distributed it equally among all then within one hour afterwards you would be right back to a situation of income inequality again as everyone went out and bought big screen T.V’s and the like. If you then tried to redistribute again there would not be anything to buy with the money because who’s going to produce anything only to have it confiscated.

The Dems give the poor something to strive for too...
to be eternally poor...their children can also be poor - their children's children...etc...to eternity and beyond.

I am by no means an economist; however, it would seem to me that there would be economic forces that would require a range of incomes in order for the economic “engine” that drives our economy to work properly.

As best I understand it, the “velocity” of money moving thru our economic system provides the “fuel” for the economic “engine.” Therefore; if everyone has the same amount of money (income equality); it would follow that since everyone had the same amount of purchasing power this would tend to create a static condition where the velocity of the money moving through our economy would be greatly reduced and tend to reach a stagnant condition. This would severely limit any economic growth.

I know my example is a gross oversimplification which likely has some significant omissions and flaws; however, if anyone could clarify or amplify upon what “income equality” actually would do to our economic system; I would greatly appreciate any comments that would promote a further understanding.

That said, while I agree w/Rick's position on this subject; I have to wonder about his knowledge of economics; since his legislative record shows he has supported concepts like increasing the minimum wage and fought against “right to work” legislation.

If you started everyone at zero, and this is minus inheritance or family money, within two generations, everything would be the same as it is now.

The people who worked hard and earned their money would continue to do so. The ones with the entitlement lifestyle would gravitate towards that.

“You will always have the poor among you ...” John 12:8.

This is a statement taken completely out of context by lack of reference. The reason He said “You will always have the poor among you ...” is because He was calling Judas a thief, a lawbreaker who wouldn't give it to the poor anyway.

Jesus would have never said what people believe by the common interpretation of this verse, because He understood the Torah and kept it all His life:

Deu. 15:5 there shall be no poor among you; for the Lord shall greatly bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it: 5 Only if thou carefully hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all these commandments which I command thee this day.

A nation heedless of the Mosaic Law will always have the poor.

I listened to yesterday’s show . Re : the “ phony theology “ comment , Levin conveniently didn’t mention that it took Rick less than a day to apologize for telling the Ohio audience that Obama’s agenda is based on “some phony theology “ , not a theology based on the Bible . What a wimp . I can imagine him debating Obama . He’d probably pull another McCain .
