Alarming: In One Week H1N1 Deaths in Mexico Increase by 67 Percent
Hispanically Speaking News ^ | February 18, 2012

The AH1N1 flu virus has left a total of 135 people dead in Mexico so far this year, with the number of fatalities up 67 percent in just one week, according to figures released by the authorities.

The total number of deaths from AH1N1 flu reported by Mexico’s Health Secretariat up to Feb. 9 was 81, with another 54 the following week.

The secretariat said Friday that deaths from the AH1N1 strain of flu from Jan. 1 to Feb. 16 represents 91 percent of the 149 fatalities from the different types of flu now active in the country.

At the same time, 4,440 cases of people infected with the AH1N1 flu virus have been reported in the same period of time, which also represents 91 percent of the total 4,884 flu cases.

Three seasonal flu viruses are currently active in Mexico - AH1N1, AH3N2 and influenza B - but the AH1N1 is by far the most prevalent this year.

The AH1N1 virus broke out in Mexico between March and April 2009, and locally the alert for the disease was in force up to June 29, 2010, by which time some 1,300 deaths had occurred and more than 70,000 people had contracted the disease.

Thank God our border is secure and we don’t have to worry about them tracking it over here.

Oh.

Wait.

Never mind.

Mexico is turning into a real hell hole. Drugs, murders, kidnappings, and epidemics. And the ruling classes, whether they call themselves revolutionaries or conservatives, could care less.

Is Calderon going to put a big sign on the Border facing the USA saying “No More HINI”?

He can make it out of melted down Obama Stimulus Signs. I have no problem with our Government donating the signs. We can get some Illegals to tear them down and drop them off at the Border on their way home.

Malnutrition and drug use on a relatively large scale. Mexico may be poised to be the next Haiti.

Since they are on our border...that’s a scary thought.

But it could very well happen.

Oh Horrors, not H1N1 again,The flu that was going to be the modern day black death. That was going to kill the entire USA unless we forced immunization on everyone. They have cried wolf every year forcing everyone to line up for vaccines. The only benefit I see every year is that the drug companies earn extra money for the placebo they make.

Well, there was obviously a concerted, over-the-top effort to push the H1N1 business in Obama’s first year, but I think that was designed to force the Senate to confirm Sebelius in a hurry. Because she is totally unqualified for the job, since her only interest in “health” is pushing abortions. The Republicans might have delayed it, but they caved when that “health emergency” suddenly broke in all the media.

A story or two like this is another matter. Just normal MSM exaggeration.

Influenza is a virulent infectious disease. A “closed border” would not suffice to stop it unless that closure were so severe that no commerce whatsoever could occur between the two nations, even through third countries. And then only maybe. Witness the Spanish Influenza epidemic of 1918 for example. Even now, influenza and related complications still rank among the top ten causes of death in United States of America. (Abortion easily tops the list.)

In any case, the rate of deaths from influenza in Mexico seems compatible with (or lower than) that in the United States of America. No need to panic yet.

And let us not forget that drugs, murders, kidnappings, and epidemics all occur in America too—and not even mostly in Mexican or Mexican-American communities or by Mexican or Mexican-American perpetrators.

From a negligible number to a negligible number is not alarming, it’s how things go. Random events cluster, in small sample sets clustering causes seemingly large variations from the expected norm. It’s why coin flips don’t break 50-50 until you’ve done it thousands of times. A few more sick people visiting old folks homes 3 weeks ago vs 4 weeks ago could easily explain the “spike”. Life is scary enough without finding stupid reasons to panic.

Do you remember when there was a "Mexican Flu" and Mexico and our government got mad, contacted their left-wing media and squashed the "Mexican Flu" naming of the virus, even though it originated in Mexico? http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/29/world/asia/29swine.html

Oh how, I long for honesty in media.

There has been a nasty upper respiratory bug going around San Diego for a month. Recurring fevers, runny noses, coughs. It just hangs on. Early symptoms include a sore throat, but that is gone in a few days.

My wife just reported that the 55 year old mother of one of her police officers died in her sleep. It's too early to have any further information. It concerned her to see people so young dying. It was completely unexpected. I'm 55 too. It strikes home.

Hubby and I just went through another “WV Crud” about a month and a half ago.

It was this weird, no warning severe chest congestion that _just would not go away_.

No ~other~ symptoms at all.

We’re just now getting past it.

The stuff is hanging on so long that people have little choice but to come to work and just press on. I'm well past the peak symptoms, but I still have problems 35 days after onset. The fever will magically appear after going most of the day symptom free. The "washed out/spacey" feeling really screws with productivity.

Hope you get over it soon.

Is that the one where you cough up green gunk? We have had that out here, and it lingers through a normal course of antibiotics, and seems to come back easily if you are run down.

It was in 2009 when the H1N1 pandemic swept the globe. Mexico had an alarming rate of 9.62 deaths per million........that’s apocalyptic.
