Matthews: Romney’s ridicule of Gingrich will ‘reap trouble’ for him
MSNBC ^ | 2-1-12 | Matthews

Posted on 02/19/2012 11:14:44 PM PST by VinL

A thousand injuries I suffered Fortunato. But when he turned to insult, I vowed revenge."

Those are the opening words to Edgar Allen Poe's short story – “The Cask of Amontillado” – ...

For a case of real-life of revenge in real-life American history, think of Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton. Burr and Hamilton held a duel that led to the death of Hamilton, (who) had said something to someone about Burr being "despicable."

Newt Gingrich has a deep and abiding case against Mitt Romney. Romney has spent millions with the single purpose of destroying Gingrich as a candidate. Oh, not just that, destroying him as a public figure, rendering him so repellent in the country's mind that he's lucky to still make Wikipedia. He's attacking not just Newt the politician but Newt the person. He's vilifying him, villainizing him, trampling him so deeply into the dust of Iowa and Florida that even liberals are starting to root for him.

So here's a question: how's this going to end? Romney keeps ridiculing Newt, rubbing it in, laughing over the man's defeat. He's out there publicly enjoying Newt's humiliation, chortling over it.

This isn't professional. It isn't smart. It will reap trouble for him. There's only one reason for Newt to give up this hunt and that's for Romney to get him to. If Romney thinks adding insult to injury is going to get Newt - or anybody to move on, he may be good at business but he's no politician.

Newt isn’t quitting this fight. This political duel is going to continue and it's going to get more deadly. There's a presidential nomination at stake here and Romney cruizin' for more bruzzin.'

And liberals, believe it or not, are rooting for the Newt.

I've been sitting on this piece for a bit- but after the Romney hit pieces on Newt in the WashPo, WashTimes and Townhall- this article seems appropriate.

I know Matthews is merely stirring the pot-- but he's right on this one, nonetheless.

I think Newt is staying in the race to win, but failing that, I think he wants to make certain that Romney and the GOP-E lose.

Beat 'em, Newt.

I actually think that the primary has gotten very personal to Romney. I think he absolutely HATES Newt and just wants to destroy his reputation and chances for anything. One thing I agree about with the Newt supporters is why Romney continues going after Newt. I don't agree with “Romney is afraid of him”. I think it is some sort of weird vendetta. Maybe he is still pissed that Newt did not call him after Florida. I don't know but it is REALLY weird that Romney spews such hatred towards Newt. I mean this is politics after all. Romney I truly believe is the only one who is taking this personally. It is really just weird. Oh sorry Newt Supporters, I don't believe for one minute that Santorum and Romney have some sort of secret handshake going on. However, I do think that Romney does not HATE Santorum but has a deep deep hatred for Newt for some reason.

The deep and abiding hate manifested by Romney for Newt is that of a “progressive” socialist Rockefeller Republican RINO liberal for a conservative opponent and ALL conservatives in general.

Romney IS an evil man and he has the money to enlist evil people among the RINO elite establishment and his SuperPAC to wage a Jihad against Newt. This is why Mittens must be stopped. He must be stopped because of what he's doing and because it is just plain evil.

I do not know if Romney will attack Santorm with the venom that he has Newt — time will tell — but Romney must be defeated and the RINOs put on notice that such behavior will cost them dearly.

I think the PROUD GOP establishment despises with all their beings ‘conservatives’. One only need look at how they turned up their sophisticated noses and unleashed the hounds of hell on Sarah.

Romneymites are the spoiled ‘rich’ that hire the illegals to take care of their babies, dirty bathrooms, and clip their finely manicured lawns on the cheap. We conservatives are the peasants to them and we need to be taught where our place is ... beneath them.

I think that Romney is finding that he won a Pyrrhic victory in Florida. To people for whom character matters, the way that Romney is comporting himself is turning off voters to him.

His scorched earth strategy may have burned him the most.p. People don't want a president whom they see to be mean. They want a president who is uplifting.

Obama has a mean streak in him, and it's now showing in Romney, too.

Gingrich has to stay uplifting, while showing Romney to be just plain mean and vindictive.

I absolutely agree. I don’t see any personal animosity or vendetta towards Romney coming from Newt at all. He even said to Piers Morgan that he would consider working in Romney’s administration if asked. Romney, on the other hand, like all liberals, absolutely DESPISES true conservatives like Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich. What they really and truly hate about them is that they are POWERFUL and PERSUASIVE. They are terrified at the kind of conservative that actually has the ability to change the opinion of the public, because these conservatives are a threat to the liberal agenda. So it’s not exactly a personal thing or a policy disagreement, it’s a fear that these people will win over public opinion and defeat liberalism.

This shows a bad side of Mittens—He has a bitter nastiness about him —it goes counter to the crafted image he has built, He is NOT a nice guy—but bitter—holds a grudge—Nixionian sort. The kind who would go an Enemies List—(He may even have one). I always felt there was something wrong with the guy—I couldn’t put my finger on it—til now.

And they say Newt has a big ego. These PROUD GOP establishment types are all ego and they sure seem to think their fat bank accounts are all the entitlement they need to buy whatever position or office they consider themselves owed. AND they think they can seduce away from Obama those coveted independents....

I still shake my head at Romney describing Bain Capital as just like Obama bailing out the auto industry....

When Romney attacks Santorum as relentlessly as he continues to pound Newt, I'll start to believe the establishment isn't ultimately satisfied with either Mitt (Bush 41) or Rick (Bush 43).

I'm amused you find it easier to believe Romney has some sort of personal hatred for Newt than wonder about the former third-ranked GOP senate leader's loyalties.

I changed my mind and decided I would not vote for Romney after his Florida campaign. He went scorched earth on Newt. The only way I can express my displeasure is with my vote, and no way is Romney ever going get it. Believe me. That’s not an easy thing for me to write with a wannabe fascist dictator running the country, but I cannot bring myself to vote for DIABLO (Democrat In All But Label Only) Romney, especially after such a vile campaign. This is politics, but Matthews is right. Romney didn’t just try to honorably beat Newt Gingrich, he ran a campaign of lies and distortions to annihilate him.

Sarah Palin? Newt Gingrich? Like them or not, one cannot deny the fact that they are both leaders. Mitt Romney? I’ve seen rocks with more charisma. Seriously.

“And liberals, believe it or not, are rooting for the Newt.”

Of course they are; Newt’s chances of winning against Obama are nil. Grumpy, chubby, white guy preaching responsibility vs. slick, jive-talkin’ black dude promising everything... they’d love Newt as our candidate.

CUI BONO ? ... regarding Willard's "attempted" destruction of Newt Gingrich ?

1) Barack Hussein Obama ... who is TERRIFIED of meeting President Gingrich in the 2012 debates ...

2) The Liberal Media, for whom President Gingrich will savagely "eat" their lunch daily ...

3) The GOP E-RINO group ... who DESPISE genuine Tea Party American Conservatives ...

4) Willard Romney ...

ALL these parties have either conveniently "looked the other way" or directed mega-millions to Willard's campaign ...

When the remark is made that "There's no a dime's difference between Republicans and Democrats" ...

They're CORRECT ... at least when referring to the Orin Hatch, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, George and Barbara Bush, Willard Romney ... "well-heeled" elites ...

However ... there's a King's ransom worth of difference between Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin versus Nancy Pelosi (footnote-1) and George Soros ...

and that difference ... that WILL resonate with American voters in the 2012 election ... TERRIFIES the above group (items 1-4) ...

What's really suprising (AMAZING !) here is that liberal Chris Matthews has "clearly" articulated the TRUTH in his comments ...

it's a rare event for Chris Matthews, and one must wonder "WHY ?" ...

At any rate, Chris's remarks certained ruined Willard's Breakfast this morning ... and that good enough for me ...

=================================

Foot Note 1:

It's understandable that someone might respond to this post by correctly reminding us about the "infamous" Newt Gingrich and Nancy Pelosi "couch photo" ...

... saying that there's not a "dime's difference" between Gingrich and Pelosi ...

I genuinely can see that point ... but only for about two seconds ...

The historical fact is that there is a Galaxy's Difference between Newt and Nancy ....

1) Would Nancy Pelosi ever wish to "fire" the EPA ?

NEVER.

2) Would Nancy Pelosi ever wish to "fire" idiot Non-Constitutional Federal Judges sitting on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ?

NEVER.

3) Would Nancy Pelosi ever wish to "repeal" Obama Care ?

NEVER.

4) Would Nancy Pelosi ever wish revitalize America's vision for space and technology by proposing a Lunar Colony ?

NEVER.

5) Would Nancy Pelosi ever wish to "execute-kill" (with extreme prejudice) American citizens (turned Traitors) who daily work with the Taliban and Islamic Jihad to murder Americans and destroy Israel ?

NEVER.

6) Would Nancy Pelosi ever wish to "repeal" Sarbanes-Oxley ?

NEVER.

7) Would Nancy Pelosi ever wish to offer Americans a "choice" between a 15-percent FLAT TAX and the current IRS convoluted tax system ?

NEVER.

Apparently you haven't been watching any of the debates. All our guys turned into chickens. With Obama it would be like clubbing a baby seal.
