Aren't High Gas Prices What Democrats Want?
Realclearpolitics ^ | February 22, 2012 | David Harsanyi

Gas prices are spiking. That's great news, right? We have to wean ourselves off the stuff. At least that's what we've been hearing for years. Oil is dirty. We import it from nations that hate our guts (like Canada!).

And moreover, we're running out. Oil is "finite." Finite much in the way water is finite. So why aren't Democrats making the case that the spike in prices is a good thing? Isn't this basically our energy policy these days?

If Democrats had their way, after all, we would be enjoying the economic results of cap-and-trade policy these days -- a program designed to increase the cost of energy by creating false demand in a fabricated market.

As the theory goes, if you inflate the price of fossil fuels, the barbarians might finally start putting thought into how peat moss might be able to power a toaster.

In 2008, Steven Chu, Obama's (and, sadly, our own) future secretary of energy (sic) lamented, "Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe." ($9 the gallon)

Obama, when asked whether he thought $4-a-gallon gas prices were good for the American economy, said, "I think that I would have preferred a gradual adjustment."

That’s what Pelosi said in 2006:

“With skyrocketing gas prices, it is clear that the American people can no longer afford the Republican Rubber Stamp Congress and its failure to stand up to Republican big oil and gas company cronies. Americans this week are paying $2.91 a gallon on average for regular gasoline – 33 cents higher than last month, and double the price than when President Bush first came to office.”

That’s what Pelosi SHOULD say in 2012:

“With skyrocketing gas prices, it is clear that the American people can no longer afford the Democratic Rubber Stamp Congress and its failure to stand up to Democrats’ big oil and gas company cronies. Americans this week are paying $4 a gallon on average for regular gasoline and more than double the price than when President Obama first came to office (when the gallon cost $1.87).”

It’s funny, to me, when people on our side point out the left’s hypocrisy in all these issues - every one of them, in fact,

without recognizing that, to the left, these issues are just means to an end.

Their only “morality” is the “Will to Power”.
Their unstated goal is heaven on earth, through humanist dominionism. And such a worthy goal justifies ANY means necessary.

Hypocrisy, schmipocrisy.

Good video from Newt but the inner circle of the GOP is not supporting him and I just have this feeling the GOP is doing their best to “Bob Dole” us again.

I have no faith the GOP will run an ad that even comes close to this one you linked to.

Below is why I do not feel the GOP will wage a campaign designed to counter Saul Alinsky propaganda from our Marxist leader. Sorry for the thread drift.

GWB proved to me that Progressives had made a significant inroad into the GOP. GWB was a very nice man and certainly did not have the hatred from America like the big BO and his comrades in the Kremlin err Washington.

However, GWB certainly spent, or at least did not try to restrain out of control deficit spending under the guise of a very insulting term “Compassionate Conservative”. That term implies Conservatives in general are not compassionate when in fact there is nothing compassionate with keeping people dependent on the teats of a socialist government.

“Good video from Newt but ...”

NO ONE in America today articulate the danger the country if facing and the absolute necessity to stop the liberal freedom-killer machine of the radical left, than NEWT GINGRICH.

For the life of me, I just cannot understand WHY the Republican voters are not united at 100% behind him. He is the ONLY man who can accomplish the daunting task of getting rid of the socialist-marxist menace which looms over the American nation and to rebuild a free and prosperous America: “The Time to Act is NOW”

I’m reposting the link , for the Freepers, who have missed Newt’s message:

Looking at that link, watching Newt speak decisively, clearly, with authority and strength, it seems clear that if Newt’s trenchant truth can win this race, he can beat anything, ANYTHING, the Presidency would throw at him.

Newt’s a LEADER. The others are actors.

Isn't her silence deafening?

Like you, I would be much more comfortable with Newt in the Oval Office than the current Marxist traitor in the WH or any of the other people running for the GOP nod.

However, Newt has a habit of giving the opposition lots of red meat to pack into 15 second sound bite attack ads.

Certainly nobody on either side has a better understanding of the intent of the Founders and WHY THEY WERE 100% RIGHT than Newt but, again, he has a lot of baggage that Obama’s comrades in the MSM will exploit.

What the Democrats want is a single Nationalized oil and gas company.

I have my own response to anyone talking disparagingly about “Newt’s baggage”.

If you want to look at his “baggage”, HERE WE GO!

If at 68, a man has not “baggage”, that means his life was empty and his achievements were nil.

Talk about a “baggage”:

10 uninterrupted terms serving in the House of Representatives (1979 - 1999)

The House Republican Minority Whip (1990 - 1994)

The first Republican Speaker of the House in 40 years (1995-1999)

Author of 23 books, including Lessons Learned the Hard Way (1998), Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America (2005), Rediscovering God in America (2006), and To Save America: Stopping Obama’s Secular-Socialist Machine (2010). He also co-wrote an alternative history series on the Civil War and World War II.

In 2003 he founded the Center for Health Transformation to develop a 21st century healthcare system that is centered on the individual.

Served on the Hart-Rudman Commission, formally known as the U.S. Commission on National Security/21st Century

Gingrich has taught at the United States Air Force’s Air University, where he is the longest-serving teacher of the Joint Flag Officer Warfighting Course.

Honorary Distinguished Visiting Scholar and Professor at the National Defense University where he teaches officers from all of the defense services.

Guiding coalition member of the Project on National Security Reform.

Created the production company Gingrich Productions, and religious educational organization Renewing American Leadership.

Fellow at conservative American Enterprise Institute and Hoover Institution.

Quite a “baggage” indeed!

NO OTHER candidate present or on the sides is more qualified and ready for the huge task than Newt Gingrich to become the next President of the United States of America.

“he has a lot of baggage that Obama’s comrades in the MSM will exploit.”

There is nothing hidden in Newt’s life, either political or personal. If there was a guy more vetted than him in American politics , I’d like to know who.

In fifty years of presence in politics, he made a few mistakes, but who didn’t? He was enough candid to regret them openly, but the bulk of his achievements makes paling in comparison his competitors, why? Because he was there before and contributed to redress America anew in the 80ies and 90ies and DID it.

He knows what is to be done, and knows how and is fully prepared to do it, if the Americans send him to the White House.

Enough with dilettantes, who never run anything than babies’ cribs. What America needs now is a STATESMAN, not a mere politician.

What I like in Newt, more and foremost is his consistency. Watch his Remarks at the 2011 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC):

I work in an office in close proximity to a very large military training facility. According to the training coordinator 50,000 plus young men and women are trained at this facility each year.

I have become good friends with a lot of the staff and officers assigned to the facility and now understand why they are all very strong Newt Gingrich supporters.

My grandson, who is studying to be a nuclear engineer at the University of Virginia, Commonwealth, has turned down offers from the Air Force and the Navy to complete his education as a commissioned officer. He does not want to serve under Obama, but said he would be glad to accept if Newt Gingrich were our Commander in Chief.

I am sure that my son, who died in service to our country, would have been proud to serve under a President Gingrich, as well.

Newt is well known by a big number of officers and military personnel , because for the last 20 years he has taught courses for them. He is vastly knowledgeable in military history, strategy and all matters concerning the national security.

"I am sure that my son, who died in service to our country, would have been proud to serve under a President Gingrich, as well."

My sincere condolences for your terrible loss. May your son rest in peace and his memory be blessed.
