Girl Who Borrowed Asthma Inhaler Expelled From School

MONUMENT, Colo. (CBS4) – A girl who borrowed a friend’s asthma inhaler at school has now been expelled.

The incident happened in January at Lewis-Palmer Middle School in Monument. Both the girls and their families are unhappy with the punishment.

The school’s punishment strikes one of the families as uneven justice. The school said the girls broke the district’s drug policy. Their families call the incident an accident and the school’s discipline heavy-handed.

For 10 days Breana Crites and Alyssa McKinney sat at home while suspended from school. The two were in gym class. Crites complained of trouble breathing, so McKinney lent out her asthma inhaler.

“I know what it feels like not to being able to breathe and I know how hard it is and I just took that into consideration,” McKinney said.

Public school is child abuse.

Mind abuse is what I'd call it.

Libs in America are brainwashing our kids in public schools ...

And so it also goes in the continued education young adults receive via Main Stream Media and National Public Radio.

She’s better off being out of that indoctrination center.

Might matter what was in it (ephedrine or something else). The school nurse ought to have an ephedrine one on hand. Some of the more modern medications can bring on paradoxical reactions. And anyhow, a shared inhaler unless not touched to the face, nose, or mouth by either user would be a possible way to share bacteria, fungi, and viruses too. Not necessarily a good idea to share unless a true emergency existed.

Trying to separate this from the issue of what looks like a gross overreaction by skewladminz.

The point is to condition kids to follow them no matter how stupid they are.

Exactly.

Proper parents will put their kids wise to this, train them to defeat this type of criminally evil abuse of authority, and home school from the start.

I'm asthmatic. I carried my inhaler when I was in school. Teachers KNEW I carried it and had no problem with that. That was in the 80's and early 90's.

This policy is bullsh*t.

I was in school through the fifties and sixties and no teacher I had would ever have even considered trying to practice medicine without a license. If you were having trouble breathing she would have sent you to the school nurse.

Kids had pills all the time for one thing or another. Nobody monitored or cared, they trusted parents to instruct their kids if necessary. We have fallen a very great distance in less than one lifetime.

why a reprimand from the principal would not do is beyond me.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I am guessing the girls are white and the socialist/government school needs to even out the black-white discipline stats.

( Now I will go read the article.)

These are the same people who hand kids condoms and tell them its okay to have sex like rabbits, but svaing their life with an asthma inhaler is a no-no.

but if those girls were passing condomns or morning after pills they'd be the head cheerleaders and the valavictorians.

the answer is truely home schooling or private, parochial school....the sacrifice has to be made...

Time for lawsuits all around. These schools are being run by a bunch of idiots and they should be made to pay for their stupidity.

I have used inhalers because of breathing problems and they can/are life-savers. Time is of the essence in many cases so I fully understand why the girl shared her inhaler.

(I went into cardiac arrest a couple years ago. My son had just gotten me to the hospital when I died in front of the doctor, who had a crash-cart right there. However, he had to put a breathing tube down my throat in order to get oxygen flowing to the brain, a main priority before using the defibrillator paddles. When I say time is of the essence, I mean it. I’m living proof that that. A couple more minutes and I wouldn’t be writing this post today, 2-1/2 years later).

Dismantle the public skoolz.

Eliminate the zero tolerance idiots. Too stupid to re-educate.

I sure hope her parents are happy with the plasmas, nice cars, big house, and everything else associated with sending their girl to get a ‘free’ education.

Too bad the girl’s chances for college just went down the drain, because of her parents’ decision.

Get real, already.

A simple HANDSHAKE is as likely to spread or share the pathogens you cite, nevermind a KISS!

You sound as paranoid about simple common minor illness being spread by a rare sharing event as the drug warriors are about the EEEEEEEEVIL WEEEEEEED!

Come to think about it, where ARE the drug warriors? This is another outgrowth of their agenda, is it not?

I mean: children, drugs, illicit sharing of a controlled substance...

Does this not REEK of "legitimate" interference by BIG BRO?

This is typical Public School insanity.

Better the little girl died of asphyxiation, to them?

Maybe they could log that one as a retroactive abortion and get Federal money for it.

Beyond you? Really? Let me help. The “rules” are better if they don’t make sense. The point is to condition kids to follow them no matter how stupid they are. It’s the following them part that’s important, not the making sense part. Get it now?

Lurker, I can always count on you for a brilliant observation.

Simply brilliant.
