Kids under 17 would not be allowed to go to tanning beds in West Virginia in a bill passed Tuesday by the state Senate.
The bill, approved 30-4, sets up a regulatory process for tanning beds, including business registration and puts the state Bureau of Public Health in charge of regulating the facilities.
The highlight of the bill is the ban for kids under 17.
"The committee recommends doing this after we were given some statistics including one from the Yale School of Public Health that found that people who tanned on indoor beds had a 69 percent increased chance from suffering from early onset cancer," Sen. Judiciary Committee Chair Corey Palumbo told fellow senators Tuesday before the vote.
The ban, along with the other provisions of the bill, would go into effect July 1, 2013.
The Bureau of Public Health is also given rule-making authority in the legislation.
I guess it’s time to get those Tanning Beds out of the Planned Parenthood Abortion Clinics.
In West By-God Virginia, of all places...
Nanny State PING!
ML/NJ
What I don’t understand is why we have tanning beds here in Florida.
Go out in the sun,for Pete’s sake!
Gotta get your Vitamin D from the sun!
This are for orphans and children adjudicated as mentally unfit, correct? I am so grateful for politicians doing the heavy lifting on this kind of horror.
Thanks for the ping!
While that may be accurate... what is the absolute number of people with early onset cancer, and how many will this save?
Not %, real integers....
Oh, that's right, Senators can't do math.

Ha! Let’s call it the “Jersey Shore” law.
There are studies that say those who live closest to the EQUATOR (and get more sun!!!_)......have LESS cancer than the rest of the world.
Where, oh where, would we poor sheep be if we didn’t have these infinitely wise, all-seeing government Masters to tell us what to do and what not to do?
and yet they probably give condoms to 12 year olds.
“There are studies that say those who live closest to the EQUATOR (and get more sun!!!_)......have LESS cancer than the rest of the world.”
Perhaps that is true, however, people who live close to the equator tend to have much more of a natural protection called melanin in their skin.
yea but there are two abortion clinics in Charleston and teens don’t need permission to go there!
People who tan have an increased risk of cancer. They just happen to use tanning beds. If they can’t, they will lay outside and get tanned. And probably get burned. And still get cancer.
Again, the government protects us from ourselves. This is a daily thing now. “Bad lunch choices” in North Carolina. Fresh Milk. Tanning Beds.
Slap a warning requirement on it, and let people make their own choices.
maybe tanning booths combines with imbreeding to produce those ‘Blue people’, currently in the news?(snark)
Maybe for SKIN cancer....but not for other health problems...
