Koran riots prove it’s time to quit Afghanistan

.... The huge and outraged protests over the Koran burnings, though, show that all the reconstruction and training we are doing is having little last impact. The Afghans are as wildly fanatical and as far from democracy as they were a decade ago, or nearly so.

.... Rather, our own selfish security interests there are very small now and the amount of time and treasure it would take to lift Afghanistan from where it is now up into the civilized world makes the continued effort unwise.

Do any of the rioters know or care why the Korans were burned? They weren’t torched out of disrespect for Islam, although I’m sure that’s what the popular belief is. Taliban detainees at the Bagram base were using the holy books to pass messages back and forth amongst themselves about escape attempts and violence against their guards. As near as I understand Muslim reverence for the Koran, defacng a Koran by writing in it – especially messages of violence – is as great a defilement of Islam’s scriptures as burning the book would be. But have any of the rioters gotten hung up on that point?

And where were the fanatics three years ago when the U.S. military burned Bibles? Yes, Christian Bibles were incinerated by the U.S. army in Afghanistan in 2009. The Bibles, printed in Afghanistan’s two most popular languages, were sent by a church in the States in hopes they would be distributed to Afghan civilians. But military commanders ordered them burned rather than give Muslims the impression NATO forces where there to convert them to Christianity....

We have done what we can to save Afghanistan from itself. Let’s now leave those firebombing Western bases and killing Western troops to their own devices.

Plus, we won't have to pay Pakistan its ransom any more for using its supply routes.

Leaving now hands the whole place back to the Taliban, just as leaving Iraq has allowed Iran to greatly overshadow the Islamic government that was allowed to be voted into power in that country.

The article points out that Yemen is the new launching-ground, with the last 4 major attacks planned from there.

Plus, with Afghanistan, Pakistan is raping us while laughing about it with their Taliban buddies.

True, but so what? Trying to prevent another 9/11 has cost more lives than 9/11 itself. Leave. Let them stew. Kill as many as we can when they try something. Repeat as needed.

Every time I see one of those mobs of vermin I visualize mini-guns pouring streams of justice into those mobs of homosexual pederasts, opium farmers, little girl molesters, wife beaters, and bearded fools.

The true injustice of the world is that this human detritus is allowed to breathe. One day I hope this country has the steel to rectify that situation.

My solution for Afghanistan is pretty simple and will never happen.

It is readily apparent that the Afghans have no desire to live like civilized people in the modern world.

Hence it might be a good idea to give them the world they want to live in. Simply seal off the borders of that joke of a country and then bomb into scrap any vestige of technology. Cell tower- boom. Automobile- boom. Power station- boom. All of it goes bye bye, and they can have their medieval world once more in which to revel in their barbarian life style.

We can go on youtube peeing on dead Taliban faces, but a porta potty rumor about Korans burning sets the whole country off? Whats that BS I smell?

Pakistan is the problem.

They play both sides. Always have and we are too stupid to see it.

Like the Taliban isn’t running the place now? They are, to the extent anyone can run that pack of goat herding barbarians. We need to destroy every piece of infrastructure and leave. I give karzai 24 very unpleasant hours until he meets his maker. And that suits me fine.

Leaving now hands the whole place back to the Taliban,

That would depend what we do as we're leaving. Now if we're nuking and nerve gassing the entire stretch of Pak/Afghan border until nothing's left twitching then I'm fine with it.

Probably a case of “Get out there and riot with enthusiasm, or we’ll behead your wife and kids before your eyes, and then you.”

Afghanistan is a sorry mess whether we stay or go. Primitive savagery is who they are and likely will be for a long time.

Leaving would be a human rights disaster for millions, but we’re simply delaying the inevitable.

If we can keep at least 1% of the friends we have made while being there, safely transporting them out of there before they are hunted down and killed will be difficult...Maybe Hillary can fly in and get them.

Let them sink back into the 9th century. Trying to establish a democracy in a mussleman country is like placing a boat in a lake. When you remove the boat the water returns to fill the void.

The best we can do is to contain the mohammedan plague till it devours itself. Unfortunately we are letting this Dark Ages contamination into Western country to our own detriment.

We are in Afganistan because there are bucket loads of strategic resources that EVENTUALLY will come in to play but history shows that it is foolish to be an invader there.(just ask the Russians)
Let the bastards there live in the 6th century, they are not worth our boys and girls lives.
