MIRANSHAH, Pakistan A US drone crashed in northwest Pakistan's tribal district near the Afghan border late Saturday, officials said.
The unmanned aircraft came down in the mountainous Machikhel area about 30 kilometres (20 miles) east of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan region, which is frequently targeted by drone strikes against Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants, military and security officials said.
"A US drone crashed, apparently due to some technical fault," a military official in the northwestern city of Peshawar told AFP.
Security officials in the region confirmed the crash saying it fell in the mountains.
The crash site has been surrounded by militants, one security official said, refusing to confirm claims by some Taliban that the drone was shot down by insurgents.

Why hasn’t Zero bombed the crash site to destroy the drone?
The Af-Pak coalition must have needed more tech info so the admin drop it in their laps. No confidence?...you’re right!
Professional courtesy.
drop = dropped.
What if the “malfunctioned” drone was armed to take out the surrounding militants? That would sure curb their enthusiasm for drone celebrations.
I like the way you think...
Aaah...if only.
He hasn’t bombed the site because he is feverously writing an apology letter to Karzai. Oh, and he’s probably including a plea to return the wreckage.
LOL. Is he bowing down to Karzi, like he did to China?
Obower, our Bower in Chief, , will bow to Karzi otherwise, Karzi WILL DO to him what Jesse Jackson wished to do.
Because he’s busy working on his apology speech to Pakistan for cluttering up their country.
did the chinese break the first drone?
really, who does self delivery these days? 0failure should just pack up the drones and ship them FedEx.
of course, that would save in ‘shipping’ costs.. and isn’t everything these days about jacking up the costs to max level?
I just hope the pilot is ok.
