A man accused of raping one University of Montana student and assaulting another earlier this month was contacted repeatedly by UM Dean of Students Charles Couture before fleeing the country.
After Couture informed the man – who was accompanied by his lawyer – that he was being accused of sexual assault under the university’s Student Code of Conduct, the man left the area, UM President Royce Engstrom said Friday.
In fact, the man – a Saudi national studying at UM – has left the country, Missoula Mayor John Engen said police told him earlier Friday.

Warned suspect before anyone else- including Police and student body. AFTER he was gone, Police found out and were unable to interview suspect since he fled the country on a tip from school officials (dean of students and school president). School officials drug their feet for WEEKS until the Saudi national could flee. I t stinks to high heaven and heads should roll at UM.

Sounds like charges are in order for the Dean of Students and other university officials.

IMO, if these people want some higher education, let them build buildings in their countries & hire the professors from here or whatever.

Missoula mayor, UM president and dean in question are all scrambling, claiming situation was handled properly, and—get this—that the perp is gone from the country so all is now well.
Tell that to the woman who was raped, and the other one he tried to rape.
Staff members have a tendency to tolerate blatant cheating and sexual harassment by foreign students against citizens so enabling a muslim rapist to flee is not a surprise. Conduct which would get an American expelled or imprisoned, is tolerated by foreigners due to ‘cultural differences’.
The administrator is a complete jerk. It appears it was his plan to help the rapist escape and conceal the rape from the police in the meantime. Now he is saying that the university is ‘safe’. No, it’s not. It emboldens all the other potential predators at the school. He reminds me of an administrator I used to have dealings with who could never accept responsibility for anything, no matter how minor and still managed to maintain a position of relative power.

No. It is not the beginning. It has been going on for years. Any city with Middle Eastern students attending college there has this problem. Any policeman, if he is honest and able to talk, will tell you that the M.E. students all have lawyers and will be out of the country if it looks like the rape charges are going to stick.

The thought of university officials trying to avoid the scandal first had me thinking the Saudi was hidden in the library stacks to avoid detection.
Yes, it sounds like accessory after the fact charges at least. The drugging and gang rape of two coeds resulted in one jock being charged? More than just a Saudi problem, though that was bad enough. Must make the folks with daughters attending Montana fell all warm and fuzzy knowing the student are so well protected from the cops and courts.

I know - I hoped others would catch that. He left so problem solved! I can’t imagine being the victim or a member of their family. The CYA going on at UM is a sight to see. Sure, they handled it in a totally appropriate manner - I just hope they would accept my response as appropriate if it was my daughter...

Not only do Saudi students pay high tuition, and pay cash, they also contribute and few Americans will sell themselves as cheaply as the academented.
Offer to pick up the tab.

That would never happen. Too many people are making HUGE money off the Middle Eastern students. They have lawyer/babysitters, real estate agents, BMW dealers, universities (getting full price, no financial aid), the very high end hotels (where some of them live), the night clubs where they drink Cristal champagne, on and on.
