Gingrich takes aim at Santorum, sees impossible task in Afghanistan
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | February 27, 2012 | Jeremy Redmon

NASHVILLE – Newt Gingrich went on the offensive against Rick Santorum during a campaign swing through Tennessee Monday, calling him a “big Labor Republican” and predicting his surging opponent’s fortunes will quickly change amid a chaotic race that could remain competitive all the way to the Republican National Convention in August.

Gingrich, who has said he must do well in the Southern states to win the GOP nomination, also predicted he would win the Alabama and Mississippi primaries next month.

Turning to the escalating violence in Afghanistan, the former Georgia congressman said the United States is facing an impossible task there.

“We are not going to fix Afghanistan. It is not possible,” he told a large group of Republicans at an afternoon luncheon here. “These are people who have spent several thousand years hating foreigners. And what we have done by staying is become the new foreigners.

“This is a real problem. And there are some problems where you have to say, ‘You know, you are going to have to figure out how to live your own miserable life… because you clearly don’t want to learn from me how to be unmiserable. And that is what you are going to see happen.”

And Santorum supported Mitt Romney in 2008.

Is that all you got? Boring. Nonsense as everyone supported Romney once Thompson dropped out. Nobody wanted McCain....well maybe you did. You seem to go for those types.

” or are they going to vote on a comment that he is, by Newt Gingrich campaigning in the South? “

You surely knew this was coming. I did, and I am not a Santorum supporter. Newt generally has footnotes to prove every sound he makes. Those notes will include Rick’s inescapable union pander legislation.

It’s just been shelved so far...until which time the NON-union guy (Newt) elected to use it. That time is now, because while panderiing to unions will sell in the north, it will not sell in the south, and right now Newt is after the south.

Most of that guy’s posts are non sequiturs. As long as he gets a pro-Santorum post within the first 10 replies on every Gingrich thread, he doesn’t care if it makes sense or not. I think he’s lost his mind.

Aphganistan...This is a real problem. And there are some problems where you have to say, ‘You know, you are going to have to figure out how to live your own miserable life… because you clearly don’t want to learn from me how to be unmiserable. And that is what you are going to see happen.”

Don't you just love how Newt says what we all are thinking.....he gives voice to us all and unafraid to call it like it is.

There comes a time when even God lets man have his own way after attempts to reach out to him...so too mankind who try to help another nation...if it's so apparent that the Aphganistan people are opposed to any "reform" of their treacherous ways...then time to leave them to themsleves and give them what they want.

I;m convinced they will be happier under the Taliban....though abused and mistreated...killed and maimed...they underst and death and punishment...they do not know how to DO Freedom and don't want to learn.

Onyx,
Hello! I am disappointed that Newt is doing this today. On Wednesday would not be a problem for me, but for him to bash Santorum the day before Michigan and Arizona just helps Romney. Am I wrong on this thinking?

Have a beautiful day.

Newt calling it like it is. Either Newt is going to have to take Santorum down or vice versa for either to have a chance to outright win the nomination.

Newt has clearly realized this and is going about it now.

Otherwise, Romney will always have their split vote, with him eaking out many victories, but not by much. He may or may not get to the magic number and win the nomination.

If all conservatives were united behind Newt or Rick...I believe one or the other would win large enough to have the best chance of an outright nomination before the convention.

So did Mark Levin. The other option was John McCain, the worst candidate in modern history.

Hey. Didn’t Newt say a couple weeks ago he was going to go positive and sell his ideas because his campaigned tanked when he was in attack mode? I guess that was another Newt running in this campaign.

It is time

Yes, it is. Newt hung back just long enough to make sure that Romney would get his nose bloodied as much as possible in Michigan. Now it's time to battle for the South.

If the extent of his “attack” was calling him a “big labour Republican”, it’ll help in Michigan more than it hurts. I don’t agree with the characterization, but it’s hardly an attack.

The AJC is making more of it than it really is. Of course, they’re rooting for Mittens.

Is that all you got? Boring. ......

Newt finally had to make the point Santorum missed:

_______________________________

ROMNEY: No, absolutely not. Of course not.

There was no requirement in Massachusetts for the Catholic Church to provide morning-after pills to rape victims. That was entirely voluntary on their report. There was no such requirement.

Likewise, in Massachusetts health care bill, there's a provision in Massachusetts general laws that says people don't have to have coverage for contraceptives or other type of medical devices which are contrary to their religious teachings. Churches also don't have to provide that to entities which are either the church themselves or entities they control. So we have provisions that make sure that something of that nature does not occur.

That's why when I worked closely with the leaders of the Catholic Church, I met with the cardinal a number of times, and with his emissaries. We talked about the issues we were concerned about.

We battled, for instance, to help the Catholic Church stay in the adoption business. The amazing thing was that while the Catholic Church was responsible for half the adoptions in my state -- half the adoptions -- they had to get out of that business because the legislature wouldn't support me and give them an exemption from having to place children in homes where there was a mom and a dad on a preferential basis.

Absolutely extraordinary. We have to have individuals that will stand up for religious conscience, and I did and I will again as president.

(APPLAUSE)

KING: Mr. Speaker?

GINGRICH: Well, the reports we got were quite clear that the public health department was prepared to give a waiver to Catholic hospitals about a morning-after abortion pill, and that the governor's office issued explicit instructions saying that they believed it wasn't possible under Massachusetts law to give them that waiver. Now, that was the newspaper reports that came out. That's something that both Senator Santorum and I have raised before. But I want to go a step further, because this makes a point that Ron Paul has been making for a generation and that people need to take very seriously.

When you have government as the central provider of services, you inevitably move towards tyranny, because the government has the power of force.

(APPLAUSE)

You inevitably -- and I think this is true whether it's Romneycare or Obamacare or any other government centralized system -- you inevitably move towards the coercion of the state and the state saying, "If you don't do what we, the politicians, have defined, you will be punished either financially or you will be punished in some other way like going to jail."......

Oh, please.

Go back and look at Santorum’s jabs and his gracious timing, back when Newt was in debt, and taking 20 million dollar defamation hits going into Florida.

Just, please. Rick is about Rick and it ends there. Newt could have been creaming Santorum from the beginning, but he has laid back for a reason, and even been found defending Junior from the Romney assaults.

Rick has given Newt back, what? A back handk, that’s what, and from the beginning.

By the Polls its starting to look bad for Newt.

Looking like on Super Tuesday Ga might be the only state Newt can win. If Santorum wins Tn, Oh, & Ok While Mittens wins Mass, Vt, Va then Newt will be the odd man out.
