Some years ago Reason Magazine did a very interesting article on a different way to school our kids. Instead of building big facilities & bussing kids in, they suggested buying a home within each neighborhood. Kids surrounding that area would be able to walk in & walk home. Classes would be much smaller & there wouldn’t be a teacher for each grade level. They’d spend more time with the younger students & older students would be given assignments to do ‘on their own.’ If the population of kids dropped, the ‘school’ just gets sold & becomes a home again.
