San Antonio now has more than 120 public electric car charging stations spread across the city, putting it on par with places like Austin, Seattle and San Francisco in welcoming the new vehicles.
CPS Energy installed the stations and is celebrating them today at the Santikos Embassy 14 movie theater on the North Side with local electric car owners a number that CPS estimates is now 80.
The U.S. Energy Department paid for the stations, valued at $5,000 each, as part of a three-year study about how to make electric cars more acceptable.
Re: Power stations wait for traffic (Page 1, Feb. 21):
The city has installed 120 recharge locations for the estimated 80 electric cars in San Antonio. And we wonder where the stimulus money (read: our tax money) went.
The Express-News story said, The U.S. Energy Department paid for the stations, valued at $5,000 each... Regardless of who paid for it, if it was a government entity then it was our tax money. That's $600,000 $7,500 per local electric car. What a bargain!

Gas stations are ridiculously expensive as well. If you break them down by how many pumps they have, a new station is probably $100k a pump. If you buy a used station, maybe $50k a pump.
They almost never work and some cases let the remaining air out of your tire.
(Can't say service station any longer, what are those?)
Ever try to use one of those coin-operated air compressors at your local gas station?
Yep.
Picture this...
You pay $40,000 for a piece of crap GM car with a GASOLINE motor. It might get 100 MPG, but...
It takes 12 hours to fill it up.
When the tank is full, you still can only drive 30 minutes.
There is a good chance your car will catch on fire.
It costs $250,000 to build that car
Now. What sensible person would buy that car?
And the two hour wait. Time is money.
I doubt that either of the Castro’s will realize their dreams. They are unknowns outside of the city.
Your lips —————> God’s ears.
Actually, I think in Texas Dem circles, they’re being seen as the inheritors of Henry Sleazneros’ mantle, so we’ll see. Might have to run somebody against one or both of them who can reach their demographic.
Electricity's not free?
The good citizens of San Antonio need to make themselves known - maybe 5,000 of them - at the next council meeting and rip the mayor a new a-hole.
Let the cops escort his obama-loving ass out of the council chambers in fear.
It’s way past time for patriots to take back their neighborhoods from the leftist scum.
Here’s what I would do - invest in cars that run on natural gas - a resource we have something like 400 years supply of. Then drill like hell for NG, build all the needed pipelines, and problem solved. Cars that run on NG have been around forever and to my understanding are trivially different from gasoline powered cars. Certainly not different enough that the engineering is all that complicated. I rode in a NG powered taxicab in Canada in 1990 or thereabouts.
The SA city council and the mayor are a collection of Mental midgets and political pygmys that deal with such critical problems as
Smoking in bars
Bikini Car washes
Strip joints
Soccer stadiums
Streetcars-flushing more money down the Via Metro toilet
Completely tearing up the Fred/Med intersection so Empty VIA Buses have a direct route to continue to be empty
Continuing congestion to push for toll roads
Sadly, the only adult in the room is Bexar Co Judge Nelson Wolff, the only one that can put a deal together. His deals are mixed bags of benefit/liberal creep. (ATT Center and Toyota plant)
They keep saying they want SA to be a “World Class City”, but while they work to bring Turd World activities like Soccer in, the roads continue to degenerate to Turd World Donkey paths. I guess that makes us a true Turd “World Class City”
And please don’t get me started on that ba$T@ard Cisneros and the Dead Armadillo (AlamoDome)
End of RANT!!!!!
:)
So, What do you think of Sheryl Sculley? :)
Continuing congestion to push for toll roads
Personally, I'd like to see Terry Hall (SA Toll Party) take the political reins of that issue.
Sadly, I think she might be able to be one of the adults in the room if she was not saddled with a City Council that belongs in a clown car at the circus.
She has flashes of competence, but sure as hell ain’t worth her salary.
Terry Hall is an excellent “Bomb Thrower” on Toll roads, and you’re right, it would be good to see her fit that into a broader agenda that deals with bringing city government back to where it should be:
Roads
Police
Fire Dept.
Reasonable Code compliance and effective residential/business zoning.
The wasteful spending in the USA continues to bury us in debt. We are deep, and will continue to get deeper and deeper, into socialism. This story about these electric charging stations is just one of millions that make up a humongous monster called Socialism. We have been duped by politicians for years and I don’t see how we can get out of it. And EARMARKS are the root of it.
