Was Boy in K.C. Fire Attack a Victim of His School's Racist Teaching?
American Thinker ^ | March 7 2012 | Selwyn Duke

Posted on 03/07/2012 1:15:04 AM PST by wintertime

The boy raised his hand, eager to answer the question. "What would you know about it?" exclaimed the teacher dismissively. "You're not our race." This was not dialogue from a Hollywood movie. According to a woman named Melissa Coon, it was what a teacher at East High School in Kansas City told her 13-year-old son, Allen, when he attempted to answer a question during Black History Month. Coon identifies that teacher as Mrs. Karla Dorsey, who is black; Allen is white.

As has already been reported, Allen was a victim of a vicious racial attack last week in which two older black teens doused him with gasoline and set him alight, saying, "This is what you deserve. You get what you deserve, white boy." Not surprisingly, Coon has pulled her son out of East High and, concerned about further racial violence, intends to leave the K.C. area.

While this crime is making headlines, Coon states that it was merely the horrible culmination of continual racial harassment her son had to endure at East High.

How much of this horrible incident ( and maybe others not publicized ) derives from the anti-segregation lawsuit "Missouri versus Jenkins", is probably unknowable but it has to be an influence. When a Federal Judge is able to force a municipality to spend $2 BILLION on school desegregation and basically takes control of the system away from elected officials, there is a consequence.

Not being a resident there I cannot know specifically, but in other cases similar to this, parents have to jump through many hoops in order to home school or transfer to other schools without 'cause'. Do not be excessively critical of a parent who may lack the funds or ability to fight an over-whelming government.

What a mess! And yes, that teacher should be fired!

They’ll try,

and if they end up doing so,
there will soon be a lot of dead folks who were attempting to enforce this law.

At some point, the “majority” are going to be over all their “guilt” and be done with the coddling.
After that, standards of behavior will be enforced,
probably not by the governing authorities, either.

Time to move to a homeschool friendly area. Your kids are more important than jobs or houses, you can get another job or house.

You put a white kid in a school of predominately black enrollment and you have a kid in a meat grinder.

What a mess!

It's not a mess. The schools are run purposefully and ruthlessly by self satisfied Liberals. It is exactly as they intend.

Drill down:
Lucifer> Saul Alinsky> Bill Ayers> Karla Dorsey.

Missouri isn’t bad about homeschooling,
and the school district doesn’t have any authority to stop people from doing so.

The parent just has to figure out that the option of turning their kids over to the government during the day is no longer the “best” option that they thought it was.

I wonder how much “white guilt” plays into a parent subjecting their kid to this dangerous environment.

I believe that these people are not wealthy. That they moved into a neighborhood and bought a home because of its affordability. The school district in which their home is in
sends their kids to this school. They probably cannot afford to move, and they cannot afford to send the kid to a private school so they are Fluked.

There are thousands of people in the same boat.My daughter is facing this problem in two years when her boy(my grandson) gets out of elementary school and will be sent to a Middle school with an overwhelming black majority.

Actually the same school she went to, but the area has changed. When she went there it was a predominantly white school, they had a principal that was terrific too. Now they have a Principal, 3 vice principals and two police officers assigned to the school.

We are looking at a Catholic school because we don't want our grandson facing this meat grinder.Looks like the wife and I will be helping financially, we cannot afford it either, but better that than getting a phone call to come to the hospital because racist blacks have injured our Grandson. If that makes me a racist that's tough, I am facing reality, not some socially acceptable BS term that liberals put on people while at the same time sending their kids to private schools.

You don't see Obama’s kids in a DC public school do you?
He would be the first to call me racist, but he knows what animals are in the DC public school system.

The really crazy thing is that he stopped other blacks who wanted better schools for their kids from getting vouchers.
What a hypocrite.

The teacher said, “What do you know about it, you are not our race.” [I’m sure that student knows a lot more about “our Race” now]

Maybe the question should be given back to the teacher: “What do you know about it?”

A wise black teacher[6th grade] in Tennesse said:”I always tell the students, especially the Caucasians, that they don’t have to hold down their heads, and they are not responsible for all this.”

That was in “The Tennessean” under an article titled: “AN UGLY CHAPTER.” They went on to say: “Teachers want state’s
black history, warts and all out in the open.”

We all must quit dealing and flaming the race card, and as a new movie that just came is titled “The Grace Card.” That is what be dealing today in our educational system.

I like what the black evangelist,[Tony Evans] says: “We came over here in different ships, but now we are in the same boat.”

Let me end in a statement[I quote]:
“Start where you are at, but don’t stay there.”

“There are schools in this nation that are so horrific that it would be better for the child to **never** attend.”

What’s amazing is that you’re correct. There are people who are unable to have successful marraiges and even unable to sustain friendships due to their experiences in school. Some young adults reject and shun their parents due to conflicts about school when they were younger. Others are unable to find direction in their lives and drift from place to place, job to job, and relationship to relationship. They sometimes resemble former inmates who struggle to adjust to life after prison. In a few caes, they resemble traumatized prisoners of war.

I am a fierce advocate of homeschooling. I have dealt with public schools, Christian schools and have homeschooled. I see only one way to go, from experiance. I believe that raising children well is more important than anything else in life. It is only for a short time and you only get one chance. Nice houses and cars can wait, make the sacrifices and raise those children right. /rant(shortened rant)

One good reason why KC schools lost accreditation. The state is trying to take over.
http://www.kansascity.com/2012/02/29/3458708/bill-to-give-state-power-to-take.html

When we bought our house we were in the KC school district. We homeschool so it didn’t matter too much. Fortunately for resale value, Independence absorbed our little area into their district. We’re even getting a new elementary school building. Still wouldn’t put my kids in public school but this is a good thing for those that live in my area. Affordable housing for a large family.

Affordable housing for a large family.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Homeschooling opens up many opportunities for parents. One of these opportunities is a greater choice in housing.

Personally, I believe that socialist-entitlement schooling ( misnamed “Public” schooling) has been one the leading causes of suburban sprawl and destruction of fragile habitat. If parents were directly responsible for paying for private schooling and school transport, how many would choose to live in these outlying communities? Families are driven to these choices, that destroy the environment, because if they are going to pay high school taxes at least they can hope their child will not be set on fire on the way to and from school or in the school itself.

My husband and I like to ski and, inevitably, there are the big yellow prison ( oops! “school”) buses spewing fumes as they wind their way up to the highest and most delicate alpine peaks to pick up the kids living in multi-million dollar homes.
