President Barack Obama is intervening in a Senate fight over the Keystone XL oil pipeline and personally lobbying Democrats to reject an amendment calling for its construction, according to several sources familiar with the talks.
The White House lobbying effort, including phone calls from the president to Democrats, signals that the vote could be close when it heads to the floor Thursday. The president is trying to defeat an amendment that would give election-year fodder to his Republican critics who have accused him of blocking a job-creating energy project at a time of high gas prices.

Reid is being instructed that the Keystone construction MUST NOT be allowed on the Bill, because the President would have to use a Veto, and be exposed for what he is: working for his friends in the oil business’s interests, AND, accomodating enviro-wacko constituency (let alone his buddy, Caesar Chavez).

The oil is already gone. Canada is going to ship it to china. What’s going on now is pure politics.
This is the Oracle from Omaha’s doing - Buffett is telling obozo to stop construction of the pipeline or he won’t give the dems any more money .. there was an article on FR here a few days ago pointing out that oil must be shipped via rail (Buffett has a big stake in rail) now and the XL pipeline would reduce rail’s profits ...

I honestly don’t think he intends to not have it pass. He will have it pass and then claim he is creating jobs and bringing more oil here. All this lobbying is just to make his betrayal of the green lobby go over easier. In the end he can just tell them he couldn’t afford the veto or it’s the will of the people. At the end of the day its going to be about him getting more votes. That’s the only thing he really believes in.
