....They may want the attention, keeping their profile up for future book sales or speaking fees. Remember, every place they go (almost), local cameras are there and will talk about candidate X on the local news, not to mention the constant national television presence.
They may be a message candidate, anxious to use the limelight to promote a specific issue or doctrine (think anti-war presidential candidate Rep. Dennis Kucinich in 2004 and 2008).
You know the saying "hope springs eternal"? Yes it does.
Improbable does not mean impossible. Hundreds of "what ifs" swirl through a campaign on life support.
"What if the front-runner says something really egregious and his numbers plummet? Then I'll be there. What if I change our message? My strategy? What if my ship comes in tomorrow?"
Finally, regardless of what you think of politicians, they are human beings.
They have worked for years or decades to get where they are, and the 2012 presidential campaign began long before most people were paying the least bit of attention. It has been a long, hard slog. They've dreamed of being president.
If you have ever had to let go of a dream, then you know how hard it is. The first stage is denial.

I hate to say this...but you could stop off in Ripley, Mississippi....pick some local person with a high school degree, and they could probably do just as good a job as Candy Crowley.
I’m surprised that none of the networks have thought of the idea of a new reality “news” show....where you just pick out someone off the street, give them five support team members....and just let them tell their version of the news every-night. I think it might interest people to just have a regular person giving a news prospective, instead of someone with slanted views.
The woman is writing to accomplish a goal, not to analyze facts. Newt, Santorum, and Paul are not fringe candidates with no chance at all. I’d like to put Ron Paul in that category, but he rather oddly has a real shot at the nomination if the other two mess up or enough druggie democrats cross over, and both Newt and Rick have a serious chance at being the anti-Romney that conservatives unite around. She’s just a leftist repeating the Romney inevitability mantra in the hope that her hero, Obama, can run against the weakest candidate. That’s a win-win situation for her, since even if Obama loses, she’s still have a big government leftist in our White House to continue the transition to socialism.
The MSM can't have real Americans looking intelligent (think of all the crap reality TV out there). The fatter they are, the more illiterate, the whiter and more southern and holding violent tendencies, the more they like it. And if they don't start out like that, they're eventually pushed to portray those ridiculous caricatures.
The idea (and the vision) of a dumb population appeals to elites.

Ms. Crowley though she may not interest us is just saying what the little Republican primary voters are doing. Our problem is our little primary voters who do as Candy says.
