Reports: Death Penalty Possible in Afghan Killings Case ( Panetta Puke )
NationalJournal ^ | A.D. 13 March 2012 | Sara Sorcher

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said the death penalty could be possible as the military investigates a U.S. soldier suspected of shooting and killing at least 16 Afghans on Sunday, according to the Associated Press. Speaking to reporters traveling with him to Kyrgyzstan on Monday, Panetta said the killings must not derail the U.S.-led military mission in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Reuters cites a U.S. official as saying the Army staff sergeant was treated for a traumatic brain injury sustained in 2010 in Iraq. The official, however, did not say there was necessarily a link between that injury and the killing spree in Afghanistan.

Gen. John Allen, commander of the U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan, told CNN earlier on Monday that the suspect acted alone. The soldier, who was supporting a village stability operation to help local police, was quickly noticed when he left his base in the Panjwai district in southern Afghanistan. As the American soldiers realized who was missing during a headcount, and the search party was forming, Allen said, "we began having indications of the outcome of his departure."

The death penality, in this case, should be reserved for the person(s) responsible for returning this poor man to front-line duty.

Assigned a FOURTH TOUR after suffering a brain injury; it was known he had destabalizing personal ( family ) pressures.

This guy was a ticking time-bomb, AND HE WAS IGNORED !!!!!!

The monkey is on Panetts's a-hole combat ready policies, and this guy's going to get shafted to cover Panetta's commie ass.

“the Army staff sergeant was treated for a traumatic brain injury sustained in 2010 in Iraq.”

First I’ve heard of this.

Brain-Damaged Soldier, Fourth Tour, Kills 16,

http://blogs.alternet.org/jacobfreeze/2012/03/12/brain-damaged-soldier-fourth-tour-kills-16/

The US soldier accused of killing 16 villagers in Afghanistan had suffered a traumatic brain injury on an earlier tour in Iraq, according to a US official. The army staff sergeant was seriously injured when he was in a vehicle that rolled during a tour of duty in 2010, the official revealed.

The sergeant had previously served on three tours of Iraq.

Three tours in Iraq already? NO PROBLEM!

Traumatic brain damage? NO PROBLEM!

Google the damn thing yourself !!!!!!!!!!!!

Insanity! bad enough for a healthy man to do four tours! and they shouldnt have to do that but to take a guy that had already been court martialed once before and suffered from traumatic brain injury and send him for a 4th tour is unforgiveable...the doctors should be hung out to dry on this one.

If this happened on Bush’s watch, this would be Abu Ghraib times 1000.

Exactly.

What happened to the maniac Muslim who murdered and shot up those American servicemen on an American military base in Texas (Ft. Hood?)

Much ado about nothing. The fewer Musims the better.

Yep, and nothing will happen to them just as nothing has happened to the people who ignored the Ft. Hood shooter's rants. If this was the private sector heads would roll..well generally heads would roll.

What I get a kick out of is that this traitorous Panetta is already talking about the death penalty, and has yet commented likewise on this rughead officer, U.S. Major Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 people, has yet to be commented likewise by this POS leftover from the disgusting Clinton years.

Was this soldier who recently killed 16 people felt to be innocent until found guilty? Huh? Panetta? You’re disgusting.

Symptoms of Traumatic Brain Injury(TBI)

“A person with a moderate or severe TBI may have a headache that does not go away, repeated vomiting or nausea, convulsions, an inability to awaken, dilation of one or both pupils, slurred speech, aphasia (word-finding difficulties), dysarthria (muscle weakness that causes disordered speech), weakness or numbness in the limbs, loss of coordination, confusion, restlessness, or agitation.

Common long-term symptoms of moderate to severe TBI are changes in appropriate social behavior, deficits in social judgment, and cognitive changes, especially problems with sustained attention, processing speed, and executive functioning. Alexithymia, a deficiency in identifying, understanding, processing, and describing emotions occurs in 60.9% of individuals with TBI. Cognitive and social deficits have long-term consequences for the daily lives of people with moderate to severe TBI”

Add to this the stress of being in Afghanistan with troops murdered by Afghan civilians and Obama apologizing for the troops. Add to that the Obama rules of engagement that allow Afghans among civilians to kill Americans and Americans unable to defend themselves.

The true story will never be told by the paid liars in the MSM. Here is a true patriot injured in service to his country and on his 4th tour.

"....the doctors should be hung out to dry on this one...."

They're following Pentagon policy written by politically appointed pencil pushing admerials and generals, and approved by a commie dork who has his head stuffed so far up his a$$ for so long he'd be blinded by daylight.

And this damn twit who never held a gun, let alone killed another man, dares to vovmit his gutless opinion.

Panetta should be on trial!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly. If this occurred on Bush’s watch, the focus would not be on the solider (and rightfully so), but on the higher up (leading right to “Boooosh”) who approved this guy after suffering a brain injury in Iraq.

Panetta is quick to bring up the death penalty in this case but what about the Ft Hood shooter who was in his right mind when he murdered 13 people in the name of Islam?

It seems to me his attorneys will have a slam dunk. They of course would admit it, but will plead insanity. I am not completely familiar with this aspect of UCMJ but it does seem by all indications the alleged murdered did in fact “snap” and went postal, i.e. total insanity. FOr that, I see him perhaps being placed in a mental institution for at least 40 years if not life, but I would highly doubt they would attempt the death penalty. I am only saying this based on whether this was in fact one lone man who went out into civilian areas and fired upon the defenseless because of horrible mental problems in his head. Methinks Panetta is trying to cool the “Muslim Street” down for the sake of trying to take the heat off our guys there who are now sitting ducks, but what he does not realize is it will only ramp up the expectation by Muslim World that in fact this punishment would be meted out...if for any legal reason it is not, you can expect further hell from them, maybe even more towers on US soil to go down. This is like sticking a BB gun in a hornets nest and just letting go with one shot, without any kind of protection.

The guy should have been on medical leave. He got a green light on his health from someone? bad enough for a healthy soldier to do four tours but give me a break on this one..traumatic brain injury and a previous court martial? something is amiss here and watch this man be the sacrificial lamb.
Also, the guy had been stripped down to a lower rank before this final tour...sheesh. How do they treat traumatic and serious brain injuries?
