MUSCATINE, Iowa, March 14 (UPI) -- An Iowa Republican running for Congress said he arrived early for an event and accidentally ended up addressing a group of Democrats.
Dan Dolan of Muscatine said he and a staffer arrived early Saturday for the Republican convention at the Monroe County Courthouse in Albia, The Quad City Times reported Wednesday.
"My staffer runs up and says, 'Hey, Dan Dolan is here. Can he speak?' So they stopped everything, and I get up there and give my speech," Dolan said. "I get done, a guy raises his hand and says, 'I think you want to talk to the Republicans.'"
"It was a crazy day," Dolan said. "We had scheduled 10 speaking engagements through the district."
"I'm not sure how many votes I won in the room that day," he said. "It was one of those silly things, but I think everybody was very, very good about it."
Monroe County Supervisor Denny Ryan said the mix-up is easy to understand, as the Democratic convention began at 11 a.m. and the Republican convention began in the same building at 1 p.m.
"Nobody asked enough questions before he started speaking," Ryan said. "It finally got to the point in the speech where one of the people said, 'Are you sure you're at the right convention?'"
You got to know the guy, Dan's a former oil rigger who started and built his own construction company from the ground up. He's good hearted, hard working guy who really does put in a great deal of effort to get out there and work the constituents. He'll make a good congressman for the Iowa 2nd district.

Well at least, by all accounts, the democrats were polite. That’s a pleasant change of pace.
Excellent! :)
Whoops. Bit of a faux pas, there...
This speaker probably came out of there with a number of his listeners ... seeing the light.
Every vote counts.
Ray: "No, it's Iowa!"
I know what it felt like to be in the audience. Once I was at a republican meeting, and Mitt Romney gave a speech.
He might get a couple of votes out of it in the long run.
we don’t win elections by preaching to the choir.
Ouch! That’s gonna need some ointment!
Wanna Get Away?
Polite... or stunned??
heh
This story is awesome in its hilaritude.
This must explain whats going on with Romney...he mistakenly showed up as a candidate for the GOP primary....ha ha. Silly mistake....now strap him to the roof of one of his Caddy’s and send him back to the Dems where he belongs.
Hopefully at least one person in the room learned something positive and not the guy speaking learning that he was in the wrong room.
Probably wondered why nobody was laughing at his Karl Marx jokes.
LOL!!!
This is awesome! Good to see Dan having fun with it. It shows good character, IMO.
