Air pollution to become major killer, predicts 'grim' report
Irish Times ^ | 16 March 2012 | OECD

Air pollution is set to cause increasing numbers of early deaths in the coming decades, including in rich countries, a “grim” report on the environment has warned.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) also cautioned yesterday that without changes to government policies, emissions would rise by 50 per cent by 2050, putting the world on course for three- to six-degree rises by 2100.

The organisation’s outlook to 2050 projected further losses in wildlife and pressure on natural resources, including fresh water.

“This is a very grim report. It suggests that we are not steering in the right direction,” said OECD environment director Simon Upton.

Air pollution is so much less than when I was growing up the '60s that there is NO comparison.

Leftists are lying barstids.

I swear that these people will never be happy until there are no humans not living in the hunter-gatherer style.

Tell me Simon, how do you steer a handbasket any way?

If we had had 2012 air in 1970 there would have been no Clean Air Act because no one would have thought we needed one.

Hey—they get lots of new taxes by keeping this already debunked theory alive. Dims aren’t as dumb as we think sometimes.

I'm the oldest grandchild, cousin, uncle etc. You have no idea how many times I've had that conversation.

Last time I checked, God was still in control.

They say emissions will rise by 50% but don’t say what kind of emissions. Emissions and pollutants are two different things.

CO2 isn't pollution.

Remember back in '61 when Admiral Harriman Nelson had to detonate a nuke to stop the sky from burning?

The '60's was a serious decade of air pollution!

BS. Our air is cleaner today than at any time in the last 40 years. These are nothing but fearmongering bastards.

Let them go talk to the Chinese Communists about it-——they’re the major culprit.

Like the commercial where the little kids are wearing oxygen tubes up their noses. Every time I see it, I get furious with these liars and manipulators.

“Air pollution is so much less than when I was growing up the ‘60s that there is NO comparison.”

I moved to Phoenix in 1962. The population of Phoenix then was ~250,000 and the entire valley was under 400K. Every day, if the wind was calm, there was a yellow/green haze hanging over the area and breathing was far from the allergies/no problems advertised by the CofC.

But we still loved it here and stayed the course.

It once was told (in 1964) that the haze over the Grandest of Canyons was caused by the coal fired plants in the 4-Corner region. I always wondered how in Hell, crud could come to the Canyon, after wafting over California and the West Coast having emanated from Kayenta and surrounding areas. Didn't make sense then...makes even less sense now.

Now, the haze is, for the most part gone. And now, the population is 4,000,000 in the valley of the sun. Sure there are days when we see the dust and pollution from China come over the valley. But I can breathe better than before. The EPA is suing us to get rid of dust. They don't offer a method for doing this but then, they never offer solutions, just issue edicts!

These environmentalists are blatant liars and should be destroyed.

"...environmentalists are blatant liars and should be destroyed."

I favor the Mogadishu treatment for the more portly, ex-high-government types.

We have Robert Kennedy’s “Waterkeepers” operating in my area panicking the townsfolk about the “fracking” going on.

First off its not fracking its the injection method. They’re telling people that the oil companies are pumping dangerous chemicals and even radioactive material into the ground.

What the oil companies are really doing is pumping brine water out of the ground in one place and pumping it back into the ground a few miles away. Even the EPA is calling these clowns, liars.
