What was Rick Santorum thinking??? (Vanity)

Poor Rick Santorum. He goes to Puerto Rico and pisses them off by telling them they must make English the official language if they want Statehood. (See Link)

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/03/16/us-usa-campaign-puertorico-idUSBRE82D16Z20120316

What the hell was he thinking? Why did his handlers not brief him on this issue before he got to Puerto Rico? Republicans just cannot get it through their friggin' head that the Hispanic vote is a big chunk of votes, and all flavors of Hispanics (Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican) stick together. If he is the nominee, this will follow him all the way to November. Rick NEVER does well speaking off the cuff.

JUST DAMN!!!

Shouldn’t all states have English as the official language ?

When California was admitted to the Union in 1850, its two official languages were Spanish and English, and the State's first Constitution was in both languages.

I am thankful he said it. Good for him. If you want to be part of the USA, speak English. This guy is better everyday! Now where are the results of Wisconsin? Hopefully President Santorum won his 11th state!!!

Should Spanish be their official language?

In Puerto Rico today, both English and Spanish are official languages, and all laws and other official documents are in both languages.

You have to understand Puerto Rico politics. A stable, significant majority of Puerto Ricans do not want statehood. But the Democrats crave the idea of having two more senators and several representatives from a poor, politically easy to control, liberal state. For some reason, so do idiot black-flag liberal Republicans, like Bush, McCain, et al.

In puerto Rico, the pro-statehood party is the one affiliated with the Republicans, and the pro-Commonwealth party is the one affiliated with the Democrats.

????

Values and unending commitment are the criteria. Gee, I'm surprised he didn't say no southern accents allowed and absolutely no YIDDISH. Honest, there are a million times more Puerto Ricans who have always been proud of their country than there is in the White House

It’s not Puerto Rico; it’s the entire Hispanic community. The GOP cannot continue to ignore them and win elections.

you assume he’s thinking and that is the first error. Rick is not a thinker. He’s a reacter. He’s making a fool of everyone.

TO: All of Rick's Defenders on this matter and ElkGroveDan who said:

He told them the truth. That's part of his appeal among conservatives who are sick of verbal tap dances.

Oh boy, you stepped into it big-time now ElkGroveDan. If what you say is correct, then tell me why did he back-peddle the next day and say that he didn't say that; that he was taken out of context? Why are his aides scrambling to "undo the damage" made by his remarks? This is not something I "heard" I dug up the information. Do a Google search and you'll find it.

John Chapter 4:16-17: [Jesus] told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”
“I have no husband,” she replied.
Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”

Much as what you just said is "quite true". Their official language is not "English", they have TWO official languages, Spanish and English, and they primarily use and speak Spanish. Santorum said that to be a state, they should primarily use English.

So the fact that they happen to include English in their list of official languages is meaningless, and your statement to attack Rick Santorum was like the woman at the well claiming she had no husband.

You know what, dude; if you wouldn’t make statements like that people wouldn’t know just how ignorant you are. You must be an ignorant, uneducated Red Neck.

I don’t understand what they are trying to accomplish. They keep insisting that the plan is for RIck and Newt both to do as well as they can, to deny Romney votes. They acknowledge that Newt can’t possibly win outright, and is quite unlikely to win a significant number of delegates on his own.

So for the plan to work, they need Santorum to get as many votes as possible. And yet day after day they bash Rick Santorum, they call him a liberal, they do everything they can do discourage people from voting for Rick — even knowing that half the people who would vote for Rick will vote for Romney otherwise.

So it’s like they WANT to hurt Rick so badly, that they are willing to push people to vote for Romney, just to make Rick look bad. It won’t help Gingrich win, because he can’t win. And it won’t help Gingrich’s plan, because that depends on Rick winning a lot of states.

So I just don’t understand what they are trying to accomplish. Although I think they are still under some delusion that at a brokered convention, Newt Gingrich will end up being chosen, and they think he will be helped if Santorum does poorly.

Santorum doesn’t think. Sadly, the poor guy doesn’t have the capacity to do so.

Maybe so. After all, he never came up with the brilliant idea of teaming up with Nancy Pelosi to campaign against anthropogenic global warming.

Santorum has lost nothing. Maybe in some states that have a heavy hispanic population, but they’re mostly Democrats anyway.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
May I remind you that the saying goes: “He who wins Florida, wins the White House.” And, Cubans are NOT Democrats but the GOP candidates with their popping off about Immigration and crap like Santorum said in PR, they are trying to drive every Hispanic to the Democratic Party. In November, we are going to need every vote we can get. How badly do we want to get Obama out of the White House?

You didn’t “dig up” anything. He said something, it was mis-reported, he pointed out how it was misreported, it’s been on dozens of news feeds. You didn’t have to dig. There have been a half-dozen freeper threads about it.

All you did was write an unsourced vanity about it, which you mis-posted as news (which is happening with regularity these days, it seems every freeper thinks that what THEY have to say is just way more important than the rest of us).

You must be an ignorant, uneducated Red Neck.

Red Neck from CT and proud of it Mr La Raza. But an educated Red Neck and ignorant has never been used to describe me by anybody I've known in my 60 years.

Are there any other territories you would like to allow to enter the union as a state where English is not the primary language?

All I ask of you folks is this: Is he a man of principle, and just a little dense, or is he a typical politician who let’s his mouth write out a check his ass can’t cover? Please tell me; why did he back-peddle the next day and say that he didn’t say that; that he was taken out of context? Why are his aides scrambling to “undo the damage” made by his remarks?

Rick Santorum has given Obama more campaign fodder. As far as I’m concerned, this issue is closed. Have a nice evening.

"We have to be committed to reasserting English as the official language of government and American history as a topic worth mastering by every immigrant and every American child." Newt Gingrich, not a member of La rAZA.
