Peyton Manning picks Broncos
ESPN ^ | March 19, 2012 | Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter

Peyton Manning will become the next quarterback of the Denver Broncos, barring a snag during intensified contract negotiations that have commenced under the instruction of the four-time MVP to his agent Tom Condon, according to multiple sources.

Once the Manning deal becomes official, Denver will try to trade Tim Tebow, according to sources.

A contract between the two sides is expected to be a formality. Elway and Manning first discussed the parameters of a five-year, $95 million contract during their March 9 meeting in Denver, the first time the quarterback visited a team during his free agency.

Elway then told Manning during the Friday, March 16 trip to Durham, N.C. -- where the quarterback has done the majority of his training -- that he wanted to finalize a contract "fair to both sides." Neither side expects any hangups.

However, details such as guaranteed money, structure of the deal and contract language designed to protect the Broncos in the event of Manning's inability to perform due to his prior neck surgeries all will be addressed in the contract, sources said.

A 36 year old body with surgical repairs that are not 100% for neck/spin/nerves seems to be a bit of a gamble. The Broncos could be putting a lot in jeopardy to satisfy Elway’s ego.

>>>Manning is not stupid nor do I think he’s being financially forced into making this decision.<<<

Stupid? Heck no! Manning is a genius. He’s going to make a fortune for the 10 or 12 starts he makes with Denver.

Elway is another story.

Elway is clearly bothered by that.

No, Elway is clearly bothered that the only way Tebow can win at least some games is if the entire offense abandons traditional NFL football & reboots to accomodate Tebow's obvious shortcomings.

If I'm wrong, NFL teams will be falling all over themselves to acquire Tebow. Instead, the Broncos will get no more than a 3rd/4th round pick for Tebow & I would not be surprised if Tebow is not the starter wherever he lands.

That this has anything to do with morals, Christianity, etc is laughable.

(Although I wouldn't pay a dime for a 35-year-old QB coming off four neck surgeries.

Big mistake.

He should have picked a team ready to win the SuperBowl and that was either San Francisco or Houston.

Now Manning will go the way of Joe Montana. Did well in K.C. but that was about it.

Life time Bronco fan also, this is bitter sweet for me. I wanted to see Tebow grow as a quarterback. So kinda bumbed. But excited for Manning to be a Bronco.

Jesus Christ, give it a rest. Who appointed you the Judge of Morality for the AFC?

If you are addressing Jesus, you might know the answer to your question is that nobody appointed Him the judge of Morality. As the creator - God, He has all authority so no lower authority could appoint Him.

If on the other hand you are blaspheming Him in addressing me, you should realize that He declares that He will not hold those guiltless who use His name in vain.

If you are questioning what moral standard that I am applying to the AFC it is His standard. Jesus himself reveals the standard and is Himself the standard. You might not like Him nor His standard, for you are utter unable to keep it, but if you are willing to humble yourself and admit your own moral failings and seek Jesus Himself, he will take your yoke of sin and place his yoke upon you which is light and find rest for your soul.

I hope the Broncos have a reserve QB better than the Colts did (do).

Keep Tim, let Peyton be his mentor. Both are class acts.

I dunno, I think Jerry Jones’ face would melt off in the presence of Tim Tebow...

If only...

Huge mistake both ways. Manning is done. 13 years and one on the sidelines. Mr. Happy Feet is on a downward spiral. Bad idea. Then again, who wants to be the lineman who gets blamed for paralyzing Manning? Maybe they’ll just play tag with him. He can’t scramble, he’s got ‘happy feet’ and he’s OLD. 5 years? Elway is nuts. You heard it here first. Broncos DO NOT MALE PLAYOFFS!

The 49ers spit in Smiths face and now want him back. He will probably get double the dollars he was going to sign for.
Tim Tebow is being S—t on and I expect he will gladly leave smElway and prove an asset to where every he signs. (Note:Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels drafted Tebow with the 25th pick in the first round when he was the head coach of the Broncos in 2010.) http://www.boston.com/sports/blogs/thebuzz/2012/03/could_tim_tebow.html

As a Dolphin fan of many years I would not like seeing him as a Patriot. If he was and they got to the playoffs w/Denver. It would be against my principles to cheer for the Pats but I sure as H-— would, even if he was never in the game..

What the hell is your point here? Cutler has played outstanding QB for the Bears.
Had he noit been injured last year and Forte injured simultaneously, the Bears would have gone deep in the playoffs. Orton was always an also ran. If you think Manning is the solution to all your problems, think again. Oh, and make sure the ambulance squad is standing by 24/7.

"Once the Manning deal becomes official, Denver will try to trade Tim Tebow, according to sources. "

Manning turns 36 years old on Saturday and he is hardly the picture of robust health. Obviously NOT along-term solution or even a middle-term solution to anything for the Broncos.

The Broncs have the personnel to make a run for the Superbowl, but are worried that Tim needs a lot more refining, so in Manning they got themselves a a guy who quite possibly could give them 1 to 3 years of excellence while schooling Tim in the finer points. They want Peyton as a player-coach (QB)

I felt badly for Manning when he was let go, but I won’t feel badly if the Broncos lose every game next season.

"nd if manning wins nobody will care. Now if he gets knocked out in the first game of the year it will be a constant subject of second guessing. "

Actually, if Manning goes down anytime in the next 12 months, the younger Broncos will forever view Elway as the once-great-but-now-stupid Golden Boy.

"“The brutal cold in Denver”

It's true you can have a 3-day nasty blizzard in Denver, but there are a LOT of times you can go for an afternoon hike in your T-shirt in January. There is a lot more nice winter weather here than in Chicago, where I left BECAUSE of the sunnier warmer climate here in Colorado.

Then again, it's a lot windier on the Front Range than in the Windy City.
