Is black support of Obama based only on race?
Charleston (WV) Daily Mail ^ | March 20, 2012 | Don Surber

Posted on 03/20/2012 6:40:21 AM PDT by Mustang Driver

Conventional wisdom hold that black support of Barack Obama is due solely to the color of his skin. I question that. To be sure, he received 95% of the black vote, but 4 years earlier, John Kerry received 89% of the black vote. That 6% difference is magnified by a noticeable increase in the black vote. But President Obama also received a slightly higher percentage of the white vote.

Maybe black people overall have a different view of government from white people do.

Maybe black people believe in the central government more because of their experience in the South in the 1960s when the federal government ended 100 years of Jim Crow law.

There also is the identification of slavery with capitalism. Overall, white people would reject that notion. But I can see that if I were black and a descendant of slaves, I might connect the two.

Perception is nine-tenths of the law in politics.

Is the Pope Catholic?

What kind of a stupid question is this?

It’s the very reason the demonRATs were so intent upon destroying Herman Cain, as he was the only potential candidate that might have drawn Black American votes away from the Kenyan Communist.

Even if Obama got 100% of the “black vote”, they are only 13% of the population. He needs white votes and Latino votes desperately. His party neglects the black voters simply because it doesn’t have to spend any political capital to get what it already has..............

Sheesh, Surber You conveniently overlook the fact the Republican party was formed partially to end slavery, that Republicans fought a war costing us over 600,000 American lives to end slavery, Republicans set up Reconstruction in the South to assure civil rights for blacks post bellum, and Democrats created (or ignored the creation of) terrorist organizations to make life hell for blacks after the army pulled out of southern capitals in the 1870s.

More realistically, it seems most blacks have somehow been unable to move beyond a plantation mentality and still live on the Democrat plantation that “cares” for them cradle to grave.

No, it is not soley based on race. Blacks have been the Dems most loyal constituency. They walk lock-step in support of the liberal ideology and anyone who strays loses their standing and race.

Party trumps race when blacks vote in general elections. Black Reps have found that out when running against white Dems. Obama has garnered even higher support from blacks, including turnout, because of his race.

Recall the Alvin Greene vote in South Carolina (already two years ago?). More than one open-minded, pure of heart black voter was quoted as saying he knew nothing about either candidate, so he simply voted for Alvin Greene because that name sounded more “black”.

We had a black fella up here at work that came in with an Obama t-shirt before the election that read something like, “Obama’s going to restore habeas corpus to Guantanamo, Obama’s going to....blah blah blah.”

So, I asked him, “ do you support abortion?” he said no.

I then asked, “do you support gun control.” he said no.

I asked, “do you know what habeas corpus is?” he said, well kinda.

I went on for a bit asking questions regarding conservatism. He answered just as a conservative might.

So then, why are you voting for a man who supports gun control, abortion and all the rest?

He looked at me with this deer in the headlights look. He had no clue. Based off his answers to my questions, it certainly wasn't O-bozos stand on the issues.

He verbally danced around and had a difficult time articulating the reason he'd vote for O-bozo. It was because, he was a negro.

“Is black support of Obama based only on race?”

His race certainly doesn’t hurt his support within the black community but it’s more about the “D” for Democrat after his name. After all, plenty of black conservatives and Republicans don’t get black support because of their race, and the “R” after their name is shunned as a scarlet letter in the black community.

Of course, it's race. . and to be fair.. .it was a tremendous sense of personal validation that a black man could be elected President. But, it also is a very deep held concept among blacks that government is their only friend. . and again, to be fair, black people did have to turn to government to have their rights as equal citizens affirmed. Sadly, that's where it all starts to go wrong for African-Americans. . .seeing government as the source of whence their help cometh.

Almost two years ago, I helped to organized and sat in on a meeting of the minds between local leaders of the Tea Party and the NAACP. The three NAACP leaders were all Army veterans and had served in Desert Storm. The meeting was a little tense at first. . but soon it became a lovefest. When we focused upon the ideals expressed in the Declaration and core family values, we were totally on the same page.

However, and very telling, a question came up about whether or not we believed that the Constitution "guaranteed everyone a job in America?" The Tea Party leaders unequivocally said absolutely no. .the Constitution doesn't give that guarantee. It was like on TV when the record needle is raked across the vinyl record. . "WHAT??!!" They were shocked at first. In their mind, they were hearing that we were for racial discrimination in hiring. But interestingly, because a bond of trust had been built up in the meeting and they could see these Tea Party leaders where not racists or Klan members. . .they stayed engaged so that the dialogue on this issue could continue. It was very instructive for both sides.

The point is, if we can find opportunities to engage African-Americans in these kinds of exchanges, there is an opening for more blacks to recognize that the conservative principles implicit within our founding ideals, not dependency on government, are the truest path to justice and prosperity for us all.

Many of them share the same ideology of expropriation and redistribution as well as alienation from the nation and other ethnicities, including but not limited to Caucasians.

Many if asked are opposed to abortion and vigorously oppose homosexuals, but will vote lockstep for the Democrat candidate. (of course, many “conservatives” will do the same for Bishop Willard if he is the Republican nominee.)

Ask an African what he or she thinks of American blacks. You may be astonished.

That has been a main effort of the GOP for over two decades, the Bushes in particular. It may have brought over two or three percent. All of that will be undone by a Bishop Willard nomination, at which point the GOP will be forever associated not with abolition, but historical Mormon Aryan supremacy.

Yep! ONLY is the operative word.

My brother’s girlfriend is from Holland and at dinner a few weeks ago we were talking about culture, race and demographics etc. in the USA. When I asked her what she thought the percentage of the population blacks were, she said, ‘30 or 40%, right?’ When I told her the real figure, she replied, ‘but they are all over tv and the radio, it must be higher than only 12%.’

My conclusion: Stupid white people are to blame for this erroneous perception. Glomming on to all that is ‘black’ or ‘hip hop’ has caused this country’s downward spiral more than any other ill. If not, blacks would either ‘act white’ and be successful like Asians....or be forgetable, in the background, boosting crime rates, but not much else.

Of course you realize that those Republicans were viewed as the liberals of that day and Southern Democrats such as Bull Conner and George Wallace were/are viewed as conservatives. Benjamin Franklin would be viewed as liberal for his time as well as Lincoln. So basically, it is a history of the relationship between blacks and conservatives as opposed to blacks and Democrats/Republicans that defines the perception.

Liberals and Washington, DC came to the “rescue” during slavery and Jim Crow and this has proved stronger than the fact that liberal ideology contradicted the socially conservative ideology of blacks throughout most of history. This is reinforced by the fact that members of the Klan and other anti-black organizations are almost totally more likely to vote Republican than Democrat despite mainstream Republicans not supporting such groups.

And lastly, the perception is reinforced when certain comments are popular with conservatives such as calling blacks the most racist group, unable to take care of themselves, genetically less intelligent, etc. These can unfortunately make the most open minded black person feel unwelcome.
