White House Admits Asking Media to Scrub Reports of Malia Obama's Mexican Vacation
NewsBusters ^ | March 20, 2012 | Noel Sheppard

After it was reported Monday that Malia Obama was going to Mexico for spring break with 25 Secret Service agents, people began to notice that such reports were being scrubbed from the Internet.

Politico's Dylan Byers reported Tuesday this was done at the request of the White House:

The AFP page for the story now links to a story titled "Senegal music star Youssou Ndour hits campaign trail," as does the Yahoo page. The Huffington Post page now links directly back to the Huffington Post homepage. The Daily Mail, Telegraph, and Australian stories now lead to 404 error pages, reading "page not found."

In an update, Byers explained who was responsible for the scrubbing:

Kristina Schake, Communications Director to the First Lady, emails to confirm this was a White House effort:

From the beginning of the administration, the White House has asked news outlets not to report on or photograph the Obama children when they are not with their parents and there is no vital news interest. We have reminded outlets of this request in order to protect the privacy and security of these girls.

Must be nice to command such an obedient media.

Very well said...totally agree...
It’s questioning the judgement of the parents...
and the compensation due the tax payers for that judgement...
Again!

Just the usual poor indulgent parenting cementing the sense of entitlement in their child.

it becomes a news story when the president sends his daughter on a trip out of the country at an age when most children spend their vacations at home with their parents or on a trip to something close to home. ____________________________________________ Photobucket

My concern is there are other kids along on that trip (BTW did anyone else get to go to a foreign country on a Class trip in grade school?)

And I firmly believe in the doctrine that non-adult children of political figures should be left out of political discourse.

BUT, spending bucket loads of Taxpayer dollars for such an extravagant trip is abusing the "HANDS OFF THE KIDS" privilege!

Obummer and Moochie should be arrested for child abuse.

"Spring break"? This kid is what, 13?

Sure, I was 13 once and I guess I can understand her wanting a break from parents of the likes of Barry and The Queen. But, sending your 13-year-old on her own vacation? To MEXICO?!

Beam me up, Scotty. If voters actually believe this Marxist POTUS is a "man of the people," you can color me an OLDgeezer because it's obvious that I'm the one who's completely out of touch.

no doubt here ... and the ones wanting more are busy lining up to get theirs at the taxpayers expense.

Quote heard ... Obama gonna pay for my home and gas bill.

Well said, and you’re the first I’ve seen to point out that particular hypocrisy.

the cost associated with the necessity of sending 25 agents for protection— in a time of belt-tightening for most Americans, is, in fact, newsworthy.

BINGO! and that is the reason they wanted to keep it secret, just like they tried to hide moochelle’s Aspen vacation.

Er, wouldn't that be Zero and Moochelle since they put her in this position?

I hate to say it, but would you put it past these cretins to put their child in play for a sympathy vote in November? I hope and pray she will be ok, and that she grows into being someone much better than either of her worthless parents.

Well, my kid at the ripe age of 14 went on two trips to Italy in six months: one to visit his father who was mid-deployment; the other with other kids and two Catholic priests on a pilgrimage...
I wish I had his mom and dad!

If the Obamas were so concerned about the safety of their child, perhaps the child should not be going to a third world nation craphole like Mexico. Why not Disneyworld?

This is not about safety, it is about control and censorship. How much is this trip for a 13-year old costing us?

Exactly what I was thinking. Taxpayers are funding the Secret Service babysitters, the transportation and the supporting staff.....it IS our business.

Hopefully, Rush and others are picking up this story. I have a couple of questions:

How many 13 year olds get to go on "Spring Break" to begin with?

With the U.S. economy hurting as bad as it is, shouldn't they set an example by vacationing in this country, and spending the money here? (especially since it's our money!)

Malia Obama also took along 12 friends. Did they pay their own way, or did we pick up the tab for them as well?

Details about the trip, like the itinerary, should be off limits as that’s a security risk. As I understand it, that’s the problem with a lot of the articles. They discussed where Malia was going to stay.

On the other hand, I think it’s fair game to discuss the costs and wisdom of such trips. For the life of me, I can’t understand how a parent would permit such a trip, especially with all the recent drug war chaos in Mexico.

I knew President Obama was disconnected from reality. After all, he’s a liberal, but sending his 13 year old daughter to Mexico? Crazy!
